Pth blood test

I'm a 94 year old widow lady. My primary Doctor told me I have 46 per cent kidney function.

My Pth lab test showed 76, the normal number is 54.

She said my parathyroid was the cause. Something about taking my calcium out of my bones.

I don't understand.

I have made an appointment with a Urologist.

Hi Pricella unless you have other desease most likely you need a nephrologist instead of urologist. PTH is normally elevated when renal function decline because kidney it's also involved in calcium metabolism. However let me say that 76 is moderately increased. Wait your next appointment in relax mood. Rgs

You have taken care of yourself very well. Lift some weights and build some muscle. Walk. I hope I live as long and healthy as you. Your kidney function is normal for your age. Don't look for problems and don't take meds that might mess something else up. Every med has side effects.

You need to see a Nephrologist, not a urologist. Ask your Dr. about a script for activated D. The PTH is connected to the CKD and we can't absorb vitamin D like others. Given your age I suspect you have age related CKD. It is a normal part of the aging process. A good Nephrologist can tell you.
