GFR BLOOD TEST HELP PLEASE

Hi everyone, any help would be appreciated. My GFR blood level results are steadily going done. GP has now said going to repeat once more as could be early sign of kidney disease. When I have my next blood test not sure what I should do to get a correct reading……

01). Do I drink fluids before the test?

Not sure if it alters the result!

Thanks everyone.

Hi, thanks for replying. All I have is it was > over 60and now around 50. I don’t have diabetes or high blood pressure. No idea why each blood test it keeps going down. What can cause it if you aren’t diabetic or high BP?

My eGFR was 61 and dropped to 34 three months later. I have type 2 diabetes well controlled and moderate CAD. I was taking high dose ibuprofen for neck pain and that may have played a part in my eGFR drop.

You can have a reaction to a medication, smoking, drinking, stress, dehydration.

Hi Rosie! If you are someone who takes any anti-inflammatory meds, either prescribed or over-the-counter, on a regular basis, like Advil, Motrin, Aleve or even Aspirin, these can do damage to kidneys. Also, has your doctor mentioned anything about your creatinine levels? I ask because sometimes we think we’re doing a good thing by lifting weights, but too much of that can cause issues with rising creatinine levels. Always keep yourself well hydrated. Dehydration is one of the worst things for your kidneys. I wish you all the best with your bloodwork results. Please keep us posted! God bless. 😊👍

Hi Sammi, none of those tablets. I do have creatinine that is always on the top end. I have a thyroid condition. Don’t know if that makes a difference to kidneys!! Thanks for helping, so kind.

Check all your medications to see if any have adverse kidney side effects. Then talk to your Dr if there are any that do. I know mine dropped several times because of meds. Good luck try not to worry.

Always do your normal thing before blood tests, so you get a reliable reading.
