I have just got a letter from the dept of Nephrology and my eGFR is 27.3 and
Creatinine of 155. I can check that out but PTH elevated at 18.6 I dont know what that is. They also want me to take Alfacalcidol 250 ng daily and check calcium levels anyone throw some light on that please. No mention of the anaemia that I was going to have an infusion for but I imagine I will have iron tablets now hospital is under such strain.
I can provide you with a couple of websites to help you get the answers you asked about. First, use labtestsonline.org to find out about any lab test. Once the site opens click on TESTS and put in PTH and you'll get any information you need.As far as the medication they provided use drugs.com and enter it under the MEDS A-Z and find out everything you need to know. Then under MY MED LIST, enter all of your medications plus this new one and you'll find out about it and any possible interactions with other meds you are taking as well as interactions with food, and side effects.

I think I will need it. I find anything to do with kidneys or thyroid quite complex. But I do remember my g.p. mentioning about a year ago a problem with something next to the thyroid which was supposed to be followed up. Now I know what she was talking about. In 2 years ive never spoken to a consultant. Im not saying the nurses are not good but consultants have the power to move things. I waited a year for an echo, im still waiting for a 24 hour monitor, I was supposed to have an iron infusion, but no sign of that. I tried to go private but having a consultant is just one thing, its beds, equipment too and other staff. Sorry to go on a bit. Thank you for your help. I have looked the info you mentioned and yes I can8 see things clearer.
Once we are thru this pandemic the health care situation should be somewhat normal (whatever that is). The more research you do the clearer things become and the stress lessens. It really is critical to becoming proactive. Knowledge is power and you ask smart questions of the doctors and really make the limited time with them that you have so much more valuable.Best of luck.
PTH is parathyroid. These are 4 small pea sized glands located right behind the thyroid. They help to regulate the calcium/phosphorus balance (bones) in the body. Its very critical to maintain a balance. HTH
