I had my yearly visit with my nephrologist today and received great news (Praise God!)
My eGFR has increased nearly 20 points (74) and creatinine decreased to .83. No protein in urine and sodium, potassium, phosphorus, albumin (as well as other parameters) are all exceptional!
He said the intermittent fasting I’ve been doing and the weight loss is extremely good and is very beneficial to kidney function. He said to keep doing what I’m doing, keep an eye on my BP (which has been much lower since losing weight and now have been off all blood pressure medication for several months) and he just said I only need to check again and see him in one year.
There is definitely HOPE to improve kidney function with some discipline and effort (and prayer) but so well-worth it!
I just wanted to encourage you all with my experience and pray you are all blessed and doing well. 😌

I am on no medication presently. I was on Losartan for BP but have been off that for about four months as my BP has decreased and is now in the low/normal range
I started an intermittent fasting program and started taking resveratrol after reading the remarkable benefits to kidney function. I am also a strong believer in faith and prayer.
As I continued with this protocol my subsequent kidney blood tests began to improve from four years ago (when eGFR was 54 and is currently 74).
I also walk 40-45 minutes a day and have lost 12 lbs. My nephrologist said that all these factors are what is greatly helping my kidneys; he said for my age (74) the numbers are great and he would not classify me as having CKD at this point.
Most of all, I give God all the thanks and praise!
thankyou I will have to ask the doc about that drug..I started losartan...I have also been tracking my salt and postasium and calorie intake..and trying to figure out what else to do..I have always been healthy till this year...now I have hashimotos , ra, and some kidney issues..on my last test egfr was 48...the one before that in january it was 61..So I dont know
HisLittleOne, Congrats on your CKD & Creatinine improvement, I am definitely going to try the Resveratrol, CoQ10. My GFR is 58 & creatinine is 102., at 3A CKD. Drinking hibiscus tea for BP, walking 30 mins 3 days per week, an on plant base diet eating fish an vegetables, cut out diary. Pray is what’s keeping me. Thanks for the great info, my next Labs is 2-28-2024 . Hopefully I see improvement. Bless your ❤️

My Nephrologist told me my intermittent fasting hurts my kidneys. I fast every day 16-17 hrs or so, 9 or 10 hrs is sleeping & getting ready for the day. I'm not generally hungry until 3 or 4 hrs later. If you ck my profile I explain my health.
My nephrologist says I don't need a diet, just stay away from red meats, oranges, potassium (bananas potato, etc), no soda tea or coffee of any kind . Absolutely no herbals or supplements of any kind (unless prescribed-like D3 erc).No more than 60 grams of protein a day.
If you take a look at my profile page please let me know what you do differently. I'll ask my Primary (yeah, Nehro too) about Reseratrol. Last year I was taking Bilberry from Scotland. I stopped, didn't think I needed it anymore (or forgot about it after running out). Maybe I do. I'm going to drop off paper work so they can go over it.
very interesting that your nephrologist said intermittent fasting is harmful whereas my doctor said the IF and weight loss is BENEFICIAL to kidneys function! Go figure!
I only know that it certainly has been helping me with a big increase in my eGFR. I am very small (94 lbs) so I don’t eat more than 35 grams of protein daily.
I also drink hibiscus tea that is maintaining a great blood pressure and is also good for kidneys.
I guess our systems are so individualized that what works for someone might not be helpful to another…you just have to seek God for wisdom in what to do.
I too pray to our Lord daily. My ultrasounds came back cleared on all. That's definately good news. Blood work again tomorrow. Will let you know the results when in. Did I mention I'm 74 and 5'5".But I'm curious, a few of you mention staying on the Protocol. What is that?
Well done. Theres significant similarities with my mum's achievement in recent years, note:
1. Her improvements were due to nutrition & lifestyle changes - like yours, theyre personal.
2. Her eGFR increased over time from 36 to 76 before falling back to a more stable ~60 so dont be shocked/concerned if yours does similarly if progression is still significant.
3. Her protein has maximised at 0.44 g/24h (varied between 0.26-0.44 in past 2y). Whilst you state NO PROTEIN, do you mean NIL? Mum's nephro/NHS unconcerned <1g/24h.
4. She also weaned off BP medication due to the natural protocol and is stable at ~125/75.
5. Re "keep doing what I’m doing", that's precisely what her nephro says when she sees him! But he didnt contribute at all to her natural protocol (though seems to take credit!).
As long as neither of you slip off the protocol (mum tends to but we continually prompt!), all should be good. Mum (67) hasnt been told she doesnt have CKD but it doesnt matter.
Thats great news. Well done. Im on dialysis now but if I had my time again, I would be doing the same. When I was first diagnosed I blindly followed my consultants advice. I was put on a high dose of steroids and put on 3 stone. I felt like a balloon of toxicity. Anytime I asked about diet, I was told not to bother, it wouldn't make any difference. However after doing my own research and joint forums like these, I realise its a huge factor in maintaining kidney function. I was even being told to eat more animal proteins like red meat, even when my function was very low. No-one cares about your health more than you. Be proactive and do your own research as health professionals..well in Scotland at least... seem to be a few years behind, in the benefits of fasting and plant based diets etc. Keep going my friend and wishing you all the best.
I eat my two meals between 2 PM and 9 PM and then only drink water the remixing 17 hours. I eat vegetables, fruit and fish; no meat and rarely a little chicken. I drink two cups of hibiscus tea for blood pressure and take hawthorn supplement for palpitations. I take resveratrol twice a day with my meal
