I am a new member of the Community and this is my first posting. I recently received a Stage 3 CKD diagnosis. My physical symptoms have been itching, foamy urine, muscle cramps, shortness of breath, and restless leg. Until last night, I was awakened with the worst pain in my stomach. I had a massive heart attack a number of years ago and that pain paled in comparison to this. It was also accompanied by dizziness, nausea and inability to stand without falling over. It lasted for about a half-hour and then subsided. Only thing is, I fear this happening again, so it's creating stress that I know is bad for our disease. I researched abdominal pain but they all discuss pain at the end stage, which I don't have. Has anybody had this at Stage 3? And do you know what it is?

Excruciating Abdominal Pain
We are not able to diagnose here in the community. Why haven't you contacted your PCP or gone to the ER if it's that bad? I did have some pain in that general area but it turned out to be gallstones. The pain was bad but not to the extent of the pain you described. I had to have my gallbladder removed in October and since then have had no further issues.
Don't wait any longer, contact your PCP or a gastroenterologist as soon as possible. Pain is your body's way of saying that something is wrong. Don't let it go undiagnosed. Get it looked at and treated. Best of luck.
Thank you for your response! I have my first education instruction through Da Vita tomorrow. I will see if I can see my GP before that. I have my first appointment with a nephrologist next week, so this painful event happened without having seen one yet.
You do have a PCP don't you? Why didn't you contact that doctor and explain the problem for more immediate help?
If you aren't ‘sick’ enough to go to the emergency room, many drs will dismiss your pain. It happened to me throughout my childhood. You may need a test to visualize your ureters and other structures and make sure there are no obstructions. I had one in ureter and was in agony for many years. The kidney was damaged beyond any repair. When the pain’s that bad, go and get it documented. Insist best you can on a test beyond blood and urinalysis. You aren’t being ‘mean’ you’re being assertive-so you aren’t so easily dismissed. If you don’t fight for yourself, they usually won’t either. Best to you!
Hi,
I have these but mine is due to having the ADPKD variety of kidney disease.
Did your doctor give you any info as to what this might be?
Best wishes

Hello, I was diagnosed at stage 4 and I have experienced all of the first items you are going through but not abdominal pain. That doesn't sound typical of CKD. Please contact your GP and get it investigated. All the best.
Hello bpnirvana. I hope you’re feeling better since you posted. Unfortunately, we can only suggest on this forum using the knowledge we have from whatever researching we’ve done in the past. But you mentioned that you’ve had a heart attack years ago, and I don’t want to create any unnecessary panic, but I know that heart issues can sometimes manifest with the symptoms much like you’ve described. It could also be a stomach ulcer. Stomach ulcers can often cause strong abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, etc.
My advice to you is go to the emergency room if this happens again. Or, call your family physician now and ask them what you should do. With symptoms like that, I wouldn’t wait on it. It doesn’t sound like something that would be caused by stage 3 CKD. The sooner you address this the easier it will be for your doctor(s) to remedy it.
I wish you all the best. And welcome to the forum. I look forward to hearing more from you. Keep us posted. Stay well, and God bless. 😊👍
Abdominal pain is not something you can expect with CKD. It is usually due to something else. If it hurt that bad "excruciating", I cannot understand why you did not seek medical help ASAP! You should call your PCP or go to an ER. Why are you waiting.....
We do not diagnose on this site, but can only speak from our own experiences. If I had "excruciating" pain, I would be in the ER!!
You are absolutely right. I should have gone to the ER. At the doctor ‘s office now.
Well best of luck. Let us know how you get on.
My GP didn't have a specific answer as to what caused the pain. Her guess was possibly gas (???--That painful???!!!!) or diverticulosis. She said as long as it was
short-lived and didn't reoccur I shouldn't worry about it. I'll be getting a second
opinion!
I experienced all of these after a doctor gave me a diagnosis that scared me. 2 weeks later they grew way more intense and I ran to the ER. Turned out anxiety and stress caused me to focus in on every little thing going on in my body and blew it out of proportion. The dizziness is what brought me to the ER (4 times) and every time I was told I was fine and nothing was wrong with me until I had a mental breakdown in the hospital. That's when I started getting treated for anxiety and all those problems went away....until I started getting all this lab work done for possible CKD. Now it's back and worse than ever. The waiting around for a possible diagnosis has caused a great deal of stress and my symptoms are returning but this time I know what they are.
I cant tell you for sure what the problem is but if you were recently diagnosed I could see anxiety from it causing you to key in in everything wrong with you and making a connection.
Thanks Cora15. I definitely hear what you are saying about stress and anxiety associated
with the CKD diagnosis. I am happy to say that I have worked through and accepted my
new life with CKD (at least as much as I can at this point) and since doing so, have lost a lot
of my anxiety. What also followed is no more stomach pains! I think you are right--it's all
related.
