Transplant lists are not necessarily by "state" but by region. For instance Missouri has 2 separate regions with several different transplant listing hospitals in those regions. Listing at different regions is best. I would go to UNOS and research the areas you'd be willing to travel to and then find the key transplant centers and call them. You'll have to call them and ask about being placed on their list. Some will not take self-referrals, some will. If they don't, you'll need to have your current nephrologist refer you to those who do not take self-referrals. What is your eGFR? It must be 20% or less to be considered for listing. Wishing you well. Blessings

Yes, KidneyCoach said it right. First do your research as to where you are interested in being listed. You can call the transplant centers to see about being listed. You can always find out what the waiting time is for your blood type.

When I was being listed for transplant I was living in WI. I was listed at U of WI in Madison and also at Froedtert Transplant in Milwaukee. I did have to physically go to each for an appt. My nephrologist also had to send both my medical info. I was also assigned a coordinator at each. When I did receive my transplant it was from U of WI.

The wait depends on your blood type and then of course tissue matches.

Have you looked into a living donor?

Good luck!

So it would be interesting to find out about your brother and son being a match for you. All they need is a blood test to see if they match. More tests come if they are a match and are serious about being a donor. I was told that they look at 6 antigens - for tissue matching. You get 3 antigens from your mother and 3 from your father. So, actually, your brother could be a perfect match if he is the same blood type. My brother was a perfect match for me, but because of his high BP he was ruled out. Both of my daughters were a match, and of course were a 3 antigen match. A cousin of mine was a 2/6 match and wound up also being ruled out due to high BP. A friend was a 2/6 match and was going to start further testing when I got the call from the transplant center. I received my kidney from a deceased donor and was a 4/6 match! A true GIFT OF LIFE! This Oct 15th will be my 20th Transplant Anniversary!
