I’ve had a few surgeries since being diagnosed with CKD, never had any issues when I was stage 3. Just communicate with your doctor and the surgeon about CKD and your current numbers. They’ll take all of that into account for anesthesia and pain management. Hope that helps!
I had shoulder surgery in May/2018. My GFR went from 28 to 18. My A1C went from 7.2 to 12.7. Really bad numbers. My doctors all concluded it was because of surgery. Now, numbers are starting to go back to normal. I am telling you this so you won't freak out like I did. It's just part of the body's defense system. If you have doctor's clearance, don't worry. It will not be easy, but not impossible. I wish you the best!
Yes, at stage 4 with a gfr of about 20 % had a total knee replacement, then a total knee revision. I also just recently had minor surgery stage 5, gfr 13 % to put the fistula in. I had no issues.
Dilaudid after knee surgeries, then Tylenol with Codiene # 3, then Tylenol. After my fistula surgery just Tylenol. I use to abuse NSAID's until I realized they were destroying my kidney's !! Unfortunately you have to make some hard and painful choices to preserve kidney's. I would use NSAID's in an instant in place of anything if I could, but I want to stay alive. When my Dr. found out I was still using NSAID's many years ago, she said your gonna blow your kidney's out, never took another one. I have PKD so I would probably have progressed anyway but who knows, maybe not to this point. You need to talk to your healthcare providers. I hate opioid medications and how they make me feel but was able to find a fine line with the medications that I have used. I have also been given morphine inpatient @ hospital for pain control.
Thanks. I, unfortunately, have a high tolerance to medication so nothing really works for my arthritis and a few other things (Tylenol is all I take) but am very blessed not to have had surgery so I pray for all of u that have gone thru any of that and more. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
