Excessive coughing

For about 2 weeks now I've developed a nagging cough. Sounds deep. Like a smokers cough. Ive tried various remedies that are kidney safe and not much luck. I'm getting to the point I think I may need urgent care . I've read that fluid will collect in the lungs which causes stress on the heart . Anyone else had this happen with CKD ?

Sorry, I haven't had this happen. But I agree with you that you should probably get it checked out.

I remember someone telling me when I was admitted to the hospital that the reason I felt breathless is that I had fluid build up. But it wasn't really discussed. Hope you find some relief.

BBland, if you do have fluid in your lungs that usually happens during end stage. Could be a nasty cold, I’ve seen the nasty cough going around my office. Are you up to date on your flu shot? Best time of year to get your flu shot is in October for it be most effective.

I just spoke to my husband and we both agreed that it's probably a cough or cold. I just saw my nephrologist the end of October and he said I was doing great and my numbers were all " phenomenal " ( his words ).

I'm going to get checked out today. I coughed all night.

Ty for responding.

You’re welcome, get checked out. You don’t want a cough to turn into bronchitis or walking pneumonia.

For cough/cold a home remedy that's very effective is ginger juice (grate it and squeeze the juice)1/2 tsp, honey half tea spoon, basil leaves 1 or2, crusherd pepper 1/4thtsp! combine everything and have one or two times a day for a week or two.

Also keeping a clove or two in mouth is helpful. So is taking turmeric 1/4th tea spoon mixed in a tea spoon of milk (almond or coconut milk will do too) at night.

All the very best1

Hi

I had this happen in June 2016 with 2 stone of fluid overload I too ignore the cough thinking nothing of it. You could clearly see the fluid in my legs and tummy area and face. By the time I called 111 for advice I was told to go to a&e straight away.

I was kept in for 7 days as had 6mm of fluid in the lungs and pushing on my heart. I had a heart scan and it showed leaking heart valves and the pumping on the right was sluggish as it had 2mm around it. The put me on high dose of diuretic which I'm on permanently and have to say it's sorted it all out and a repeat scan shows my heart is fine which was such a relieve.

I'm on fluid restriction and diuretics.

Seek help don' carry on thinking it' normal. Sorry don't want to worry you

Awwww, ty foe sharing .

I went to the Dr yesterday and turns out I had an upper respiratory infection. He gave me an antibiotic and I haven't coughed in 24 hours.

I was concerned about exactly what you described ( fluid in lungs pressing on heart etc ) . If this continues after the meds I got recently , my next trip will be to the emergency room. I have an appt with my GP next week.

Tysm for your information!

Be well 😊

Good morning, I have t had anything like that either but please get it checked. My mother had the same thing last year around this time. The coughing went in so long to were she started coughing up blood. At that point we had to rush her to the hospital. She had cough so to were she had busted so blood vessels and come to find out she had type A and B ofthe flu and bronchitis. After staying the hospital for 3 days and get the proper treatment she was doing a lot better. Since the flu season is terrible right now. I definitely recommend that you go get checked. You’re in prays and pleas keep me updated.

Thank you so much . Actually that was last year right after I was diagnosed and it was an upper respiratory infection ( if I recall correctly 😊 ) i received antibiotics and am as good as new. I also have asthma.

I was a little scared, as I have read that fluid can collect in your lungs if CKD progresses , but Praise God , it wasnt that at all. I was very new to all of this and I'm still learning. I was just diagnosed in Aug .2017.

Thank you for your prayers ! I so appreciate that 😊 You all are certainly in mine as well !

God bless 💜
