Excessive white blood cells in test.

Hi, I have one kidney due to cancer. I have very serious kidney infections on the remaining kidney. The recent urine tests showed my white blood cell count to be 700,000.

When the max should be 10,000.

Is this very serious? If so, who should I see?

You KNOW this is serious. See any doctor, but go see someone. I would talk to my the doctor who helps you with your cancer or a nephrologist. You need to find out what is causing these infections and stop them so your remaining kidney stays healthy.

My dr just said its an infection but now I have seen the results, I am worried.I’ve just changed doctors as my old one refused to let me see an oncologist or any specialist. I have a pituitary tumour plus just found another head tumour. He tried to ignore it.

Should I ring the new doctor up and say I think it is more that an infection?

I asked why I keep getting them and he shrugged his shoulders.

YOU need a new doctor, stat. Infections are very dangerous and since you only have one kidney, I would be doing anything to protect it. YES call the new doctor.

Good for not tolerating a lousy doc. You need somebody who'll see you NOW and find out what's going on in case its something that's damaging.

Hi, I hope you have contacted someone by now. We have to be our own advocates and pressure our medical caretakers to do what we need done.

I hope you were at least given antibiotics to treat the infection. Please try to contact your Nephrologist ASAP if you haven't already done so. The Dr. who ordered the test should be treating this seriously given all the serious health problems you have. Best of luck to you. I hope you get the infection under control.

Along this line, my nephrologist told me at Stage 4 and now adding Ozempic I can likely expect more kidney or bladder infections. He said they do not treat these until the infection is so bad you end up in the hospital. My old nephro did however treat me with a 2 week round of antibiotics. I am concerned and do not want to end up in the hospital anymore than I must. Will talk to my Internist about this, but that just doesn't square. Anyone else been told this?
