Well after a hernia and consequent operation followed by a hip replacement I have done no exercise and let things slip. I was up to 14 stone 10. My BMI is 28 and I should be 12 7. I’ve stopped drinking alcohol completely and lost 3lbs in about 5 days. All encouragement and advice welcome . I am 66 years old I cycle and walk but I think running is out for me now. I have arthritis in my other hip back and knees. ( They May have to shoot me I have high cholesterol and blood pressure.

As a reminder, all of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and I hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run, especially a weigh-in and the daily diary.

We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.

Wishing you all the best :)

Hi JeffDavies123 . Nice to see you here and well done so far. I used to run but had to give it up as my knees couldn't take it but I swim every day which is kinder on the joints. I do a lot of walking too which is great exercise. Keep at it!

Hello Jeff,

You have probably learnt that exercise is not enough to keep your weight in check.

The good news is my BMI was over 30 in October and is now approaching 24, and blood pressure has dropped back to normal. Can't speak to cholesterol, because mine was good already and I haven't been retested.

LCHF (low carb/high fat) and intermittent fasting, ie probably the opposite of what you have been told to do. Certainly the opposite of how I got fat in the first place.
