Hi I have been on the WeightLoss journey since the beginning of the year and so far I have managed to loose 100lb. While this is good the main reason I wanted to loose weight is because I have Osteoarthritis and my mobility was being badly affected, this has improved 👍 but the level of pain I now experience in my knee and ankle joints has increased!!! I am assuming this is due to the level of fat that surrounded my joints has decreased and now the “cushioning” is no longer there the joints are grating against each other. I am not sure which is worse being overweight or the increase in my pain levels.

Hi and welcome, Jac62 :)

I'm not medically trained, but don't think that fat is carried in joints, so don't think losing the weight will have caused the extra pain, I'm more inclined to believe that losing the weight has increased your mobility, leading to more pain. I suggest you see your GP about it. I, personally, found the pain decreased after losing the weight and hope that you can get some answers for your situation.

That's a tremendous weight loss Jac62 , well done you.

I don't think fat in any way cushions your joints, and you have only done them a favour by reducing the strain on them :) I'd suggest asking your GP for advice about pain management, and maybe a referral to a physio to advise you on exercise.

I agree with moreless, you should talk to your GP. as far as the pain goes, I am in constant ankle and knee pain with a 100 pounds to lose and I understand. Im afraid I will stay in pain all I can say is that I got my ankle fixed (ive been not walking on it for the last 3 months). but I find it all very worth it. I want to fix the nerve in my back that is pinched fixed next and then my knee. I realize I sound pitiful but I am 52 so things are starting to go wrong. I am trying to lose the 100 pounds now and I know if I do I can get my knees fixed whatever with so much less pain and also less risk in surgery. let us know what your GP says?
