After all the effort of cutting back on eating , going swimming, trying hard to loose some weight !!!!! Grrrr, I have not lost an ounce, same weight as last week 12st. 2lbs, My daughter has to take me to go and see my Doctor next Friday as all my results from MRI CT, and Bloods are all in, and the doctor wants to speak to me about the results, What that means ?????? what is there to discuss, I know I have Ataxia, there is nothing they can give you, No Cure, so what is there to discuss, -- will just have to wait and see, oh but I would Love to loose some weight before she sees me, as I do not walk well just around the house, clutching onto furniture, so what hope is there to loose weight ---Oh I know, stop being lazy and do chair exercises, I have tried really I have. But my weight seems to stay the same, HELP , I am feeling hopeless and discouraged. Could it be due to OLD AGE ??? I am 77 years old, and feel I want to cry like a baby

These will help you, lottiejemma, because as we age, we have to take much more notice of what we eat, not just how much we eat healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh... and phcuk.org/wp-content/upload...
Don't give up!
Oh please don’t be disheartened, I lost nothing in my first week but then lost consistently 😊
However, I agree with Moreless lottiejemma. I’ve been quite immobile recently and have had to cut right back on carbohydrates, (bread rice pasta potatoes etc) and feel much better for it. I now eat butter, cream, cheese, olive oil etc and don’t feel hungry. Have a good read of the links and see what you think 😊
Hi, lottiejemma .
I am 70 this month, but I am fortunate to be able-bodied.
Some people can lose half a stone (of fluid etc.) in the first week of two, some will lose nothing for a month ...but I hope you are getting (relatively) lean and fit!
Ataxia describes the symptoms of several causal conditions - so I expect the doc want to fix the cause or treat the symptoms.
You're dealing with a lot Lottie and I can see why it must be upsetting having the doctor ask to see you. Is it possible to call and ask for a quick summary to allay any fears and at least give you a general heads up of what the doctor wants to talk about?
Try to adjust your focus away from exercise, which will come in time, and do everything you can to manage what you're eating and drinking. I wish I could give you some feedback about your weight loss journey but unless you use the Daily Diary myself and others have no information to assist you.
Glad to hear that you're not going to give up... you can't fail when you don't
Lottiejemma, please try not to be so hard on yourself, maybe when you speak to the dr, you could mention how hard you are trying, I know how hard this can be, I’m 54, and normally walk at least 3 miles a day, but, I got plantar fasciitis about 10 weeks ago, and I also am walking around clutching furniture, I can hardly move, I feel like I am piling on the weight, which of course is a vicious circle, the heavy I get the worse my plantar gets, the worse my plantar gets, the less I can move.
Keep going Lottiejemma, you will come through this and find a way. Xx
Oh feel for you but dont give up. Cry if you want to its ok. Health issues are very challenging. I have a few and even though i go to the gym i often end up with such joint or back pain that i then cant go for weeks. I have been slowly putting weighr on over last coyple of months. My lack of wait loss this week is down to visiting a cousin who owns a pub and serves large portions of food and plues me with alcohol . I hope when you go to the Dr. The news is not all doom and gloom. Unfortunately the older we get the more seems to go wrong. Try and stay positive and keep exercising as much as you can
Here is how it is for me. I hope it helps.
It is very simple. If you eat more calories than you spend in exercise you get fatter. If you are leading a very sedentary lifestyle then you need to cut your food even further. But oh how difficult that is, and if you cut it too much are you getting all the nutrients you need?
It has taken me twelve months to lose two stone and one of my greatest pleasures in life is food! I have been fed up, especially when I have tried and then the weight has stagnated. But keep going. Weigh absolutely everything you eat and use the NHS calorie counter to keep within your limits.
I like the odd glass of wine and thats OK so long as the calories are within my limit of 1500 cals per day. I like cream but am aware that to eat it will cost me maybe my two daily pats of butter.
I am old too and have to make a real effort to get out of my house. If you are depressed please talk to your doctor about it. I am prediabetic and need to lose at least another two stone.
Keep going! Keep counting! Keep asking for help! and keep on hanging on in there! weight loss is a slow difficult process and even more difficult for you, but come on don't let it get you down. You are in a battle with the weight devil. Don't let it win.
Quite agree. You still need to eat a balanced diet within your calorie allowance. Cutting out any one group of food is bad for your health. Theoretically just by eating chocolate biscuits to 1500 cals per day and eating nothing else could cause you to lose weight but I don't think you would feel very well on it. You need to eat a variety of food concentrating on salads, fruits and vegetables and lean white meat and fish.
I am starting to diet again after a 'holiday' from it. And I am using the NHS calorie checker and weighing my food. Such a pity that all the tasty extras such as mayonnaise, even the light varieties, cost so many calories. But herbs, lemon juice and spices can add flavour.
But if you fall off your horse for a few days then just pick yourself up and get back in the saddle again.
I am finding this hard as I am very depressed and on my own. Its also cold and dull today which doesn't help and I have hurt my foot so walking anywhere is out. Yes I think I can say I am truly fed up today, although not literally ha ha!
And yes I do look for support groups, but there are so many for the obviously disadvantaged and I do not begrudge that one little bit, but it would be great to have something for us isolated but fully mentally functioning older people. Something to stimulate the brain if not the body!!! Any suggestions anyone?
It will have to be swimming. I have Moretons neuroma in my right foot so walking is limited.
I just want to reiterate what others have said. Please don't be disheartened by this and give up, it sounds like you have made a really good start despite setbacks. Just go and listen to what the doctor has to say, keep calm and tell them what you have been doing and about thiss wonderful site. I feel sure the doctor will be supportive of all your efforts.
