Hello Liz1226,

I have a working diagnosis of ME/Fibromyalgia and have also gained weight due to my meds.

I too struggle with physical activity due to pain and fatigue.

I have found that the healthy eating:excersize ratio is around 80/20.

I've been on my weight loss journey since January 2017 and have lost 1st 1lb so far (with a fair few blips along the road).

Hi and welcome, Liz :)

As you can see by ButterflyPrincess1 's terrific weight loss and advice, it is possible to lose weight with a disability. You may like to check out this community, for specific support?

healthunlocked.com/fibromya...

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run a weigh-in every day of the week and you'd be very welcome to join one of them. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the HOME page, bottom on a mobile.

We also run a Daily Diary, where we share our meal and exercise plans for the day. It's a great place to get ideas and to keep us focused. The link can also be found in Events.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi there

I have a physical disability that severely affects my mobility and ability to exercise. I also get a lot of pain. However, at the ripe old age of 49 I decided that it was time to change things! I lost 2 stone without doing any exercise (through weighing out portions and logging food and calorie intake).

There are a few informative and hopefully supportive posts I've written which you can find on my profile, but this one may help:

I have Fibromyalgia, 2 discs out in my lower back, arthritis and achilles tendonitis and I am walking with 2 sticks so I have limited mobility but I have lost 3lb in the last 2 wks so really happy.

Make sure you check your BMI as eating too little is as bad as eating too much. I know that from experience.

Good luck on your weight loss journey

Hi Liz1226 welcome to the forums. You will probably find a lot of people on here in a similar situation. I've had a diagnosis of fibro for over 12 years now and have struggled with my weight a lot due to medications. I too struggled with exercise and have tried various different ones trying to find something that was low impact and didn't cause too much pain.

It is possible to lose weight with fibro but it may take a little bit of patience and experimentation to find the right combination for you. Starting small and slowly building up has been a key for me with exercises and learning (a long time ago) that sometimes my body simply wont cooperate with what I have planned that particular day.
