Time for exercise...

Hi I'm new!

Just returned from family ski trip. Husband and I both lost a few pounds trying to keep up with the teenagers. We ate loads but clearly the exercise was key. We're both full time and find it hard to find the time for serious regular exercise. We dog walk and occasionally bike ride inbetween everything else. We both need to lose 7lbs at least. Any tips please....

Hi and welcome, Caza :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Build exercise into the commute with walking or cycling as part of the journey? Wean the teenagers off the car by saying you want to live longer and healthier lives and they'll have to get the bus? It's hard to know what to suggest when everyone's circumstances are different but try making small changes within the existing structure would be my advice and keep building on them. Good luck!

7lb isn't much, you could do it slowly over a couple of months as you probably are healthy anyway if you only have that little bit to lose. Cutting back a little bit should do it for you. Good luck!

The fact that you and your husband simply seek to lose half a stone would suggest that you're both of a largely healthy weight.

If the above is indeed the case, by simply reducing intake of refined carbohydrates, such as cakes, sweets and pastries, alongside that of white varieties of bread, pasta, rice and potato, in favour of complex alternatives (quinoa, lentils, oats and legumes), you should both hopefully achieve your aim in a relatively short period.

However, regular activity remains key, since it encourages depletion of glycogen from the muscles, thus, improving/maintaining sensitivity to insulin.
