Am trying to lose 3 1/2 stone with SW, am type 1 diabetic on insulin pump (pump since Sept 2015, Injections since 1973)

I have the worlds worst sweet tooth and no willpower.

I do enjoy swimming.

Hoping for support and encouragement

Thanks

Hi cathysbd1,

You can do it, just believe in yourself. ;) This forum is a great support system and you'll find lots of advice and encouragement here. :)

Swimming is great, I also swim to help me lose weight as it takes all my weight and I am free to move more easily. I am sure it'll prove a fun and gentle exercise for you too. :)

Good luck,

Sazkia x

Diabetes and sweet tooth sounds like a very tricky balancing act 😕 I have reduced my sweet tooth by eating low gi carbs earlier in the day, ie porrige with banana and dried fruit for breakfast, soup and sandwich for lunch. This has reduced the mid afternoon sugar lows that were giving me cravings 😊

I have also stopped 'diet' fizzy drinks as this was affecting my taste buds and making me want sweet stuff 😕 This wasn't easy but is well worth it, everything rastes much sweeter, veg salad fruit even hot milk 😊

Not sure if this is any help but good luck anyway, I'm sure others will have advice too 😊

Ps swimming is great exercise but you will need to re fuel carefully after or you will definitely get sugar cravings 😊

I find I get more sugar cravings doing nothing then when I go swimming! :)

Doesn't help me much this week as I can't get to the pool....

I do put sweetener in my tea/coffee and occasionally drink diet drinks. I think I'll make an effort to stop the artificial sweeteners, this may as you say help with my sugar cravings. x

Have you talked about the issue with your Endocrinologist? What did he/she say?

If you want to go swimming, please consider a glass of juice before you swim. You can do a blood test after the swim to make sure you haven't dropped low.

Please check out the Diabetes Research and Wellness Foundation group on HU and the website at: drwf.org.uk/diabetes-leaflets

The leaflets can be downloaded to be read or listened to on A Healthy Diet and Diabetes and/or Diabetes and Exercise.

Hope this helps.

Hi and welcome Cathysbd1 :)

You'll get heaps of support and encouragement on here :)

Have a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen, (bottom if you're on a mobile) and read our Welcome Newbie post. It has a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which is a great place to start. It doesn't give a specific diet plan, but gives guidelines for healthy eating.

Consider signing up for any, or all of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.

We also have a monday group weigh-in and if you click follow on my profile, you'll get a notification when I post it on monday. You can have a look at the latest thread in the events section, to the right of the home page.

Be active on the forum, as that's where we meet to exchange ideas and get our daily fix of inspiration and motivation :)

Wishing you all the very best :)
