Hi and welcome lala :)

This is the perfect time of the year to start your healthy lifestyle, before Christmas makes you gain even more unwanted pounds :)

You've made a fantastic start, how about cementing your decision by joining our Monday weigh-in group, it's up and running now and is a very friendly and welcoming gathering of people in their varying stages of weight loss, or maintenance. We all encourage each other and there's the added bonus of accountability.

You can introduce yourself, declare your starting weight, if you wish, but there's no pressure to do so. Have a read through the thread, I'm sure you'll find it inspirational :)

Hi and good luck...you are in a great place to receive encouragement and support on your journey, everyone here is brill! Not sure if Moreless is online atm so I'll be bold and jump in (apologising for treading on any toes in advance!), in case she is up to her ears in wrapping paper like I have been recently lol! The Monday weigh-ins are done online in this group, so literally anyone at all from any area can join in - I find them excellent because I don't want to go and face a room full of strangers and pay money to weigh in...this way, you weigh yourself in the comfort of your own home, then come on here and celebrate or receive commiserations if things didn't go how you wanted! Good luck, we're all on the same journey and this group is amazingly helpful!

Welcome aboard lala, nice to have you join us here on the forum. The 12 week plan works wonders and you will see just how making simple changes really can make all the difference. It's great that you have decided to start your journey and beat the bulge. Some really nice and supportive people here who will help and encourage you along the way and if you are ever unsure of anything please just post the question and there will be answers :-) best wishes and many successes on your journey

Hi lala, and welcome. You sound really organised and determined and planning for a diet in the New Year is great. I didn't quite know what to expect when I joined this site a few months ago, but it has been a real help, because I had never dieted before :) The people here have done a lot to encourage, support and motivate during my time here and I can't thank them enough.

When I started, I wanted the weight gone NOW :d As I now know, it doesn't work like that :) It's little by little, one step at a time. I've lost about 2 1/2 stone so far and am very happy.

So, a little advice, when I started dieting, the emphasis was on the scale and on weight. My weight would go up and down like a yo yo.

What I wish I'd done from the start, is use the tape measure more. Often when my weight was stuck, a check of my waist size showed improvement.

Anyway, I've said enough.

It's good to see you here. Have a great journey :)

Towson you are right. I still have not braved up to the tape measure.

I was reading on a medica site some days back about heart problems and weight gain which I must say I had not noticed before. You as well as everyone wading this will know that diets don't work. The only people they work for are the international companies that own the companies that produce them. Last year I watched a programme on tv re one of the big American companies in the diet business. The retired CEO / Chairman was interview and asked about diet success and his reply was yes they are very successful. We make and have made a lot of money from them and if they worked we would be out of business. Cabbies make chocolate that we all love and the same Cadburys own a diet company, under a different name. Medically one shouldn't loose more than 2 pound a week and this includes walking. You GP can give you a diet sheet on this and it's inexpensive to employ. It's need to be a way of life not a diet.

Merry Christmas. James

Hi Lala31,

I think it's brilliant that you're starting a healthy eating drive 4 days before Christmas - no time like the present to start, and you sound really positive and determined. Your fridge sounds ready, and so do you!

Do join us in the Monday weigh-in group, if you like the sound of it. I can see that lovely Fab 5'er Moreless has already given you the link. It is a great group - really supportive and enthusiastic. But I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, so whatever you decide to do, I'd like to wish you all the best with your goals, and I hope to see you around and about in the forum.

Happy Christmas!

Lowcal :-)

Another thought lala, if you need motivation for starting an exercise programme, why not join us on our trip Around the World in 80 days?

We log all the kilometres we've managed to kick, running, walking, swimming, cycling, rowing, dancing etc.

Our aim is to kick enough K's to complete the challenge and you would be very welcome :)

Here's the link

Looking forward to seeing you there :)

Slimming world isn't a diet and all the consultants go mad if you call it that. It really is a healthy eating plan with some restrictions. I agree about weight watchers tho, when I did their diet, I got fed up of all the promotion about weight watcher products, and know that our consultant had a freezer totally full of weight watcher ready meals which she fed herself and her family on as a daily occurence, which is hardly healthy eating !!
