Last Monday I weighed 13 stone 4.2 pounds, and today I weigh 13 stone 4.6 pounds, so I've gained 0.4 pound this week. I think the fact it's a Bank Holiday weekend has proved too challenging for me to lose any weight this week - but I'm pleased it's only a very small gain. I'd like to set myself the goal to lose 2 pounds this week, and will do my best to achieve that. I am continuing to focus on pre-planning, and choosing healthy meals, and I've been managing to do exercise most days - including some core conditioning exercises for my abs. I have noticed a difference, in terms of feeling more 'toned', especially around my waist, which feels great! Thinking back to previous Bank Holidays, I usually gain more weight, so I am pleased with how this one has gone. However, I know that I need to ensure I don't overeat for the remainder of the day, as the Bank Holiday isn't over yet!
If you're joining me today (on a Bank Holiday) then good for you! Definitely a challenging day to step on the scales, and I hope it will be a better experience than you might be anticipating...
Here is a summary of last weeks's Monday weigh-in group stats:
Total people posting on last Monday's thread: 55
Total people who lost weight: 31 (83.79 pounds lost) (38.01 kilos)
Total people who gained weight: 8 (12.64 pounds gained) (5.73 kilos)
Total people who maintained weight: 7
Total people starting out on their weight loss journey/plan: 6
Total people who didn't disclose their weight gain/loss: 3
Therefore, overall pounds lost by the group = 71.15 pounds (32.27 kilos).
I hope you'll join us for today's weigh-in, and good luck to everyone - here's to a great week ahead for all of us, and hope you're enjoying this Bank Holiday weekend.

Hey Lowcal so glad to hear you talk about preplanning your meals - its something I think is SO important for this program. Bummer about the slight gain but onwards and downwards as you say !
Well a not so great week for me- not awful, just not a starring role in that beloved family classic "David Sticks To His Food Plan".
WEEK 4
Starting weight 139.5 kg (307.5 lb)
Last Week 131.7 kg (290.3 lb)
This Week 130.7 kg (288.1 lb)
Loss 1.0 kg (2.2 lb)
I am happy to have lost the kilo as I was less active than I would have liked and also had a couple of bad food days, being whacked as that elastic band snapped back
Having some difficulty accepting that I need to reconsider my goal to run the City To Surf as my knee continues to make its presence felt and I am not sure that I should put it at risk for the long term. Its not painful its just feeling uncomfortable and letting me know its not completely happy right now.
Bike riding is the obvious alternative, have been out for a couple of VERY short rides and I can feel the benefit of the very low impact to my knee - I am just being a wuss about getting serious about it!
There *is* a Sydney to Wollongong (coastal town) road ride for the MS society in November each year which has a 100 km and 50 km course - might need to consider that one for 2016.
Anyway enough of me thinking out loud - have a wonderful day off for those of you who have that luxury.
And don't you give us hard working Aussies over here a second thought as you swan around enjoying your public holiday!
Awwww, I'd forgotten that you hard working Aussies don't have the same public holiday as we're getting today - that's a bummer!
Congratulations to you for losing 1 kilo (2.2 pounds) this week. Afterall, you've had a 6 pound loss last week, and you're making really great progress - losing a kilo in a week is fantastic! I'm amazed you've been able to continue to lose weight despite having your knee problems, and I hope the procedure went ok on Wednesday. Hope your knee improves really soon.
Great that you're able to do some cycling, that's a good alternative. Great that you're already planning challenges for 2016 - good to think ahead. Afterall, you'll be so much lighter by 2016, you'll probably fly around the Sydney to Wollongong road ride.
Hope you enjoyed your time off on Thursday - and hope your day goes ok today, and and wishing you another great week ahead.
I just read your post, and found it very inspiring reading - great that you've had a 2 pound drop since your holiday, and I love the photo too that you posted.
Good luck with your triathlon in two and a half weeks time - great to have something like that to focus on.
Love your goal...and what a brilliant loss, especially as the band snapped!...I might just open my mind to cycling arounf Europe ...and then the world.
Well done possum on losing yet another kilo. As you have stated previously, the six pound loss each week won't always be an option but you are doing fabulously my little darling!
Don't push that knee too much, just take it gradually but a plan for the foreseeable future is good.
Keep up the great work and leave off the blooming chocolate lol!!!!
I really enjoy reading your posts Dave, news and views from the other side of the world is interesting and you put a great spin on everything! Sorry to read your knee hasn't read the script though but hopefully things will improve. Have a great week.
Public holidays, come with public holiday weather 8 degrees and Pissing it down. Never mind, we'll have the sleet, and high winds this afternoon no doubt!
Another pesky KG Gone! Bet that feels good! +1 for the bike over here!
I think you have made a wise decision re the race, your health/knee has to come first. There will always be something you can work towards even if it 2017.
Continue to look forward, and for the record typical bank holiday weather today, it has rained all day, cold and miserable. Went to the Asian festival was ok but weather did spoil it, feel really sorry for all the work put in. So you've missed nothing here in Newcastle !
Today's weigh in was okay. I lost 0.4kg. Which is okay given the fact that I indulged in crisps and sweets my son's were having on Saturday and Sunday. I want to make it a point to stay away from their tuck going forward as it is stalling my weight loss. Happy weigh in everyone.
That's great, Congratulations on losing 0.4 kg (0.88 pound) - especially as you've indulged in some crisps and sweets over the weekend. Good idea to put your son and his friends' tuck off limits going forward - it is most likely stalling your weight loss - and you'll have an even better result next week, all being well.
I think it's great that you've lost weight during a challenging time like a Bank Holiday weekend, really well done! Your hard work over the week has paid off.
You haven't let the group down, it happens put it behind you and start a new week. Sounds like you are prepared for it, go for it with the exercise it really helps. Good luck.
Please challenge that thought that you've let the group down, it's when we gain that we can learn from things - and it can motivate us to make a change to ensure a loss the following week - and you've made an excellent plan of action to achieve that change - and actions follow plans, so you can look forward to some achievements this week! So just put that 1 pound gain in the past, and move forward from it.
Wishing you a great Bank Holiday Monday and a really good week ahead.
There are all sorts of reasons your weight is what it is. Just keep looking for the little things that mean you're making the right choices and keep making them!
Jealous that you have a long weekend, I'm at work bored out of my mind as usual.
Last week I was 14 stone 8 and today I am 14 stone 11 so 3lbs gain for me.
It's been a rough week emotionally I think. I stupidly weighed myself mid week and saw the 3lb gain and just felt so sad.
I genuinely thought slimming world would work for me and couldn't think of anything I had done wrong to make my weight go up so suddenly. Needless to say it was just a downward spiral from there and I just went back to indulging in KFC and cake.
I am thinking to just review what I am having (again). I don't know if years of constant dieting, crash dieting and obesity has left me with metabolic syndrome? or insulin resistance or whatever it is that has stopped me losing (and keeping off) even 1lb in 6 yrs
I have a friend who is a nutrition + fitness person and his advice is that I will not lose weight from dieting alone because the first weight I will lose will be muscle mass and my metabolism will be too slow for anything to happen.
He recommended 3 x 45min strength training + 3 x 45min cardio per week and no less than 1200 calories per day
I found with slimming world and portion control (if I limit fat & protein & increased veg) I was barely hitting 1000 calories/day. I also decided I hate exercise, I hate being so out of breathe, I hate sweating and feeling tired/unable to complete anything. I can't even survive 10min of a fitness dvd
I don't know if it's me being lazy or just hating that exercise reminds me that I don't look after myself.
Either way I just have no idea how to lose weight.
If I eat healthily I do not get the calories to stop my body slowing down. If I eat healthy fats (nuts + avocado) it is a slimming world syn, if I increase my protein then it's bad for my kidney, if I increase my complex carbs then my carbs are too high and I gain. I cannot (at this time) do any exercise for any length of time to make a difference and any weight I lose is an illusion since it is either water or muscle and instantly goes back on a week later
I feel stuck, I should just apply to biggest loser and have someone scream at me all day
sorry for the depressing post, but needed to vent.
Hey Gracie, every day starts with a new dawn. Come on girl, just know that we're all here to support you and you will make some wonderful choices and feel the benefits. So today, why not take a leaf out of Daves exercise routine.? As it's impossible for him to leave his workplace to excercise, he makes sure he adds a 100 steps around the shop when he goes to the loo...and so on. Small things will make a big differnece ..but not over night. Good luck!
Hi Gracie, you brilliantly describe the exact mood I was in last May and on and off for a year before hand. The kind of review you are doing is from my experience painful but really effective.
What's worked for me is just setting targets around trying to eat a balanced diet and targets for activity which have morphed into much more vigorous exercise. I haven 't set weight loss goals but plan to do this for eighteen months and see what weight I end up. I weigh in here.
Firstly, sorry to hear you've experienced an emotionally challenging week, and that you gained 3 pounds, I know you're disappointed about that, but thank you so much for giving us more detail so we can see what happened within your week. Also sorry that you've got to work today, that's also a bummer! (I'm using Australian speak now, thanks to Dave's influence earlier!)
It certainly sounds as if you were having way too few calories - as having less than 1,000 calories per day seems really low. I don't know how tall you are, but maybe use an app like Myfitnesspal to work out how many calories you need for your height, activity levels etc would be a potentially good idea. That app also keeps account of the proportions of fats, carbs, proteins etc, so you can keep within recommended levels. I'd also recommend taking a look at the NHS 12 week plan. I don't know if you've seen it already, but it does have some good advice, and also some structure. I know you have been doing Slimming world, and you may not wish to change necessarily, but it sounds as if you've been struggling, so I am just trying to suggest some things that might help you get through this. Maybe you can also speak to your Slimming World consultant to get their opinion or advice - they should be able to give you some advice within the Slimming World plan.
The advice from your fitness friend sounds good - but I know you mentioned that you dislike exercise - I think it's important to choose an activity that you 'enjoy' - maybe something like walking would be a good start? It really is excellent exercise, but doesn't involve getting too sweaty (unless you walk really fast of course!). Or even dancing to some music, at your own pace, rather than following a DVD work-out, might be easier? Or anything that you think you might enjoy. You'd be more likely to stick with it, if you enjoy it.
People vary with regard to how often they weigh themselves - many people advocate only weighing once a week. I admit, I weigh myself every day, but that's just my personal preference. But maybe you might want to stick to just once a week to weigh, so you don't let a mid week weigh scupper your good work of earlier in the week. It does sound like emotions got the better of you this week, and that's because they can be really powerful in their intensity. So don't be too hard on yourself, you're only human afterall.
Well done for facing the gain and weighing in today - and sharing your week with us - I think we've all faced weeks like yours, and I think moving forward from it and starting afresh, trying to pre-plan your meals wherever you can, is a good way to move on from it. As I said, maybe using an app like Myfitnesspal to look at the day's meals in terms of calorie and nutrient content might help - and then you can try to stick with your plan, and hopefully the week ahead will be better.
I know what you mean about 'The Biggest Loser' - it looks like they get such a lot of support with people screaming at them to lose weight - but hopefully being part of this community and having our more gentle encouragement will also help.
Thanks for reading my comment and taking the time to respond, it's really uplifting to read and a great response.
I use my fitness pal and scan things all the time. My height is 5'6 and according to various online calculators my BMR is around 1730, though I once had a machine analyze me (at a Cambridge diet consultation) and my BMR was around 1460 which means I would lose nothing on the nhs 1400 plan and since the body adapts to exercising then even walking will eventually have no impact
I read all the time that a 10min HIIT does more than a 30min walk/run
I think maybe slimming world will not work for me because I cannot eat unlimited pasta & rice etc with my level of inactivity.. seems the best source of calories is from good fats which is a slimming world syn
so this week I've been told to try carb cycling so normal healthy days with complex carbs and max 1 piece of fruit and 3 days keeping carbs at 50g with good fats to get the calories .. I guess it might end up similar to the 5:2 diet ...and definitely look into building some muscle
I heard Michael Phelps the swimmer burns 5000 calories just sitting still because he is 2000% muscle
Hi Gracie it's about finding what works for you, and there will be a lot of trial and error why clubs don't work terribly well is you need to have a plan that will work for life, so once the weight is lost its only half the battle! It may take a while but nhs 12 week plan is a great start! Try and halt the gain then start on the weight loss, good luck and always drop by on a Monday !
Hi Gracie, do you think you might like swimming for exercise? Your breathing gets in a rhythm so you're breathing more deeply without feeling out of breath, and you don't feel sweaty in the water x
I'd love to do swimming if I could swim lol I have taken lessons and decided just to swim with snorkeling gear, I still have a fear of deep water though so getting there slowly.
I'm sorry that you feel so low and fed up with yourself, it's an emotion I can truly empathise with as I can clearly remember how I used to feel when I looked at myself in the mirror before I decided I had to change my lifestyle. Like you I absolutely hate exercise and for all the same reasons but I try to incorporate exercise into my everyday activities e.g. I get off the bus a stop early so I walk that bit further, when I do the housework I put more effort into the sweeping or window cleaning (don't laugh), just to burn off a few more calories. I've been following the NHS 12 week plan for 23 weeks (just starting week 24) and I've managed to shed almost 3 stone, so it is possible to lose weight without going to the gym or having a structured exercise regime.
I've tried Slimming World and a lot of other weight loss programmes over the years but I have to tell you in my opinion the NHS 12 week plan is not only achievable but it's an enjoyable way to lose weight because so long as you remain within your calorie allowance and watch the fat & sugar content of some foods, you will lose weight.
I wish you well, read the NHS 12 week plan and give it a go, I think you'll be surprised what you can achieve. Good Luck to you.
Hang on a minute! All you need to do is find opportunities to make better choices - especially the small ones. If you have a food blip then you have to get over it. Thinking like that is really unhelpful to YOU!
We all do it, it happens to everyone. Have a food blip and get on with it!
As for exercise it has to be something you like. Your friend is dead right and you might not think right now it will work for you, but that's just where you are right now. All you need to do to start with is to walk! 20 mins a day will change your life - its all over the papers today! If you'd have told me at the start I'd be running almost every day I would have laughed found and long - I'm running almost every day. I've learned not to limit my vision.
Find what works for you. Find one approach you like - the 12 week plan is as simple as it comes - ask as many questions as you need to on the forum.
Just think what can I do next to do this! Just the next choice is the only one that matters!
I'm a newbie here on this site-just joined last Monday but I can absolutely tell you that reading all the words of encouragement and kindness between the people on here helped me to be kind to myself this week-which meant that I was reversing all my usual negative script about myself that runs around in my head. Like you I weighed myself mid-week and had already lost 6lbs so could have been gutted stepping on the scales this morning to find that I can only post an actual loss of 4lbs-but am not going to beat myself up and instead will look ahead with positive and kind thoughts.
Lowcal, Dave and the others will always offer positive words of support but it's the voice in YOUR head that you need to change to allow yourself to hear and feel those positive messages-and that is your biggest battle I think! So be kind yourself and learn to love you-easier said than done in my case-but once you do, then managing your day-to-day stresses becomes easier. So good luck and kindness to you Gracie and I'm sure you will turn things around-I've given myself 2 YEARS to loose this huge weight so not feeling pressure off time-it's taken a long-time to pile on s it'll take a long time to loose----positive and kind thoughts-positive and kind thoughts-positive and kind thoughts be with you!
Hi Gracie, can I challenge you on the hating feeling sweaty and out of breath? I think the amount of exercise you friend recommends is ambitious for starting out, but you could aim for that eventually. I would start with 3x20min walks each week and 1x15min strength, which could be something practical like some diy work/gardening, or (semi-)following the NHS Strength & Flex podcast. Then build up to eventually doing brisk walking/running for 45 mins 3x per week, with 2 sessions of strength at a higher rate (but after say 2-3 months, build up really gradually). If you build up gradually you won't shock your system and get out of breath/sweaty, or at least not as much as you fear you will.
Also, did you know that walking burns the same calories as running but just takes longer. E.g. whether you walk a mile or run a mile, you burn the same calories once you've got to the end of that mile (even if running will get you there quicker). So walking is a very valid type of exercise. You can even turn walking into a HIIT exercise by adding in brisk sections, star jumps etc (but gradually).
Lastly, re sweating, what I need to do and haven't done yet, is get proper 'wicking' clothes - this might help you too? I've been running in charity shop t-shirts and track suit trousers since I started the couch to 5k programme, and my friend (I also have a superfit friend) says the materials are the reason why I get sweaty. They aren't breathable and they don't 'wick' the sweat away from the skin. As a result they make me sweat more than I would if I wore proper gear. So I'm going to at the very least get a breathable wicking running top. Maybe this would be something good for you to look into too? But whatever you do good luck, and keep trying to make small changes, there's really no need to shock your system, you CAN make a difference without becoming super sweaty/out of breath from day one
Thanks for the response! taking things slowly has always been something I struggle with. I am one of those people who will go to the gym once and do some kind of work out program gently whilst watching tv and at the end, expect to look like halle berry! But I have downloaded the podcasts and hopefully it will help. I tried the couch to 5k once but some weeks in I found I couldn't travel the expected distance in the expected time and when I tried to increase the speed I couldn't do it.
Also I could not run outside, as if the treadmill was easier than grass. Oh well small steps
I also realised I wouldn't be able to run the expected distance in the expected time for c25k. I ended up aiming to run 4k rather than 5k, and even then it was a real push, but a great achievement as at least I had a manageable goal and I did manage 4.11k in my week 9 final run, after some real focus and hard graft. I still cannot run 5k in 30mins, in fact I recently managed to run 5k in 39mins, and that was a massive improvement for me! But I am getting marginally closer to that Halle Berry figure, having lost several lbs along the way (over several months!!) One of the main criticisms of couch to 5k is the unrealistic expectation that the average person will easily reach 5k in 9 weeks. It's actually the minority who reach 5k in 9 weeks, not the majority. Introducing exercise and gaining fitness is totally about small steps. If you're at least 'off the couch' and moving towards some kind of goal, then you are burning more calories than you were before. It's not about speed, just about slowly improving your own fitness, and listening to your body. Good luck for your journey
Good to hear this, I have heard so many success stories about the C25K and it is very popular I just assumed it worked for everyone, so when I tried it a few yrs back and couldn't keep up with the weekly targets I was like hmmmmm
yesterday I tried a beginners fitness youtube video and I was out of breathe just doing arm lifts...im wondering if I can weigh my arms later with a suitcase 'weigher' but interesting to see that I can increase my heart rate without have to kill myself with jumping jacks and burpees
Another thing to bear in mind is that starting any new exercise will 'hurt' to begin with, but your body adapts very quickly. If you reach the point where you're really out of breath, be careful not to push yourself too much further. Take breaks when you need them, then carry on. And always always always stretch afterwards, noone likes waking up in the night with their legs etc seizing up with cramps.
Not sure what a suitcase weigher is but you could always measure your arms just with a tape measure. I know my arms have definitely got slimmer as my tops fit differently over them now, but I never measured them at the beginning. It's good to know where you started from, if you can bear to note it all down! Good luck
Morning Up and about early this bank holiday morning- dogs walked and then for the dreaded weigh-in. Scales showed a 4 pound gain at 6 30 - re-weighed just now and I have lost 3 and bit of the pounds. What a difference half an hour makes - must have been the dog walk
So in terms of actually where I am - after a pretty good week - determined to get back on track - the blow out weekend has nibbled away at my good intentions. What with one wedding and then friends over for supper yesterday ( have counted the empty bottle - too many to declare) . I have ta- dah managed to lose a 0.25 pound. So I am slightly disappointed - but realistically that is probably a good result.
1 Sept tomorrow - pondering what 30 day challenge to set myself......
For those of us this side of the equator- enjoy bank holiday Monday (albeit a wet one). Good luck for this week
Congratulations on losing 0.25 pound this week, that is great! I am sure it would have been a lot more, but like you say, the blow out weekend would have nibbled away - hope you enjoyed the Wedding celebration and also your friends being over for supper yesterday.
It's great that you're already contemplating a challenge to set yourself for September - wow, a 30 day challenge is an interesting thought - you've got me thinking about it now...! I'll be interested to hear what you set yourself, if you care to share!
I'm impressed that you've been up and about so early on a Bank Holiday, and you've already walked your dog too. Hope you enjoy the remainder of the day, and wishing you a great week ahead.
Hi Prin, I'm doing dry September too! I've been saving corks from prosecco and cava bottles ready for my nieces to do some crafting and I'm mortified at the number I've accrued I saw August out with a bang though
I'm wondering about the '30 day squat challenge'. It starts with 50 squats (which might push me to the edge) and then you increase 5 extra each day. You're meant to fit them in throughout the day. I might just see how many I can actually do and use that as my starting point. E.g if I manage 10 today, then I'll try to do 12 tomorrow, etc... Anyone else fancy it or am I just mad?
Yes, that sounds like a great 30 day challenge, but I think I'll also just see how many I can fit into the first day, and then increase the number each day accordingly - I doubt I could do 50.
Hi Lowcal, bank holiday weekend is always a hard one. Good idea preplanning your meals. Well done on the exercise front sounds like that's making a difference, good luck with the week ahead.
Well I weighed myself on Friday after getting back from a two week holiday and had put on 2lb so my weight was 10st again but just weighed myself and I've lost a 1lb so now weigh 9st 13lb. I'm happy with that.
Yes, I agree with you that the Bank Holiday weekend is always a hard one. Thanks for your encouraging words - I really appreciate them!
I hope you enjoyed your holiday, and I think it's fantastic that you only put on 2 pounds after being away on holiday, and Congratulations on losing 1 pound since then, and getting back under 10 stone again - back in the 9's, that's fantastic!!!!
You're doing really well, and making great progress.
Hey low cal, keep on keeping on girl! Can't be so busy here today as usually have a it meltdown trying to log onto this thread...holiday yeah. Thank you again for doing the stats looking good.
Hi lowcal that's great that you only put on a little bit over the bank holiday that's an achievment in itself :-), I've been very determined this week to hit the stone mark I've done a lot more running this week on the treadmill but am most chuffed as went for an outdoor run through local country park with my hubby on sat morning something I couldn't of done six weeks ago ! I have lost 4lb am delighted with this now to keep up the running !!
Thank you, I am glad I've not put on too much this weekend.
Congratulations to you for losing 4 pounds this week, that is phenomenal...!!! It's great to hear you enjoyed that outdoor run through the local country park with your hubby on Saturday morning - definitely an achievement, and also that you've been doing a lot more running during the week on the treadmill. Fantastic!
Wow, that means you've achieved the loss of a stone in 6 weeks, doesn't it? That is FANTASTIC...!!!!
A thanks low cal I'm delighted 16lb in six weeks but most importantly I'm starting to feel fitter think what def helping is the tip from lots of people to pre plan def helps me resist temptation !
Morning lowcal, well i had a great week food wise and three days of exercise but then the weekend hit. Partners trade skill is a baker and decided to do a bit of baking much to my disappointment and lack of willpower i ended up eating about 6 shortbread biscuits and a slice of very tasty chocolate cake did not want to step on scales but needs must and was extremely surprised to see i had actually lost 1lb. Just wondering now what it would have been if i hadnt eaten the baking but i know not to dwell on what ifs but to get back on the right track, hide all biscuits and cakes out of sight and keep going. Good luck all for the coming week x
Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week. That is really great! You've had a good week, and done 3 days of exercise, and chosen well during the week. Sounds like your partner's baking skills are amazing - you've had some shortbread and that chocolate cake - I am sure they were really delicious! It would have been interesting to know what you'd have weighed without those indulgences - but like you say, dwelling on 'what ifs' doesn't often help us - and the positives is that you're back on the right track again now, and the biscuits and cakes are hidden out of sight, and you can keep going. You've lost a pound this week, and that is fantastic! Well done you!
I find that freezing cake helps me to avoid 'finding it' - because the need to de-frost means there's that extra time frame that means I might not bother to go there. It's less accessible. It all helps.
Wishing you another great week ahead. Enjoy the Bank Holiday!
Once again thank you for your work collating our weigh in. Hope you achieve the 2lbs this week. Bank holidays do present challenges!
I am surprised that I am still on track.
End of week 4 and I weigh 59.8kg (9st 5.8) so 0.5kg( 1.1lb) down this week. I cracked the 60kg barrier and now have a bmi of 24.9!! And into the 'Healthy' range! Woop woop.
I met my goal for the week.
Started at 63.7 on 4th August so gone down 3.9 kg (8.9lbs) in just under 4 weeks.
This week has however been a challenge as the husband has been off work and we have had days out. Including a Chinese buffet in China Town, a party, visits to cinema and theatre ( bad weather put paid to visiting gardens etc )and my dvd player broke so haven't worked out since Wednesday. A couple of days I managed high step counts but most days my count was very low.
Goal for next week is to work out a way to play my dvds. To walk 10000 steps every day. To lose another 0.5 kg or more. To break below 58kg would be amazing but unlikely.
I go back to work tomorrow (have been at home the last month) which will provide challenges in some ways and in others should help.
I have bought a fitness tracker and anticipate it's arrival. I hope it will motivate me to move more. Regular exercise is still where I struggle most.
Congratulations on losing 0.5 kg (1.1 pounds) this week, and to achieving a loss of 3.9 kg (8.9 pounds) in just under 4 weeks. Especially brilliant to hear you've broken the 60kg barrier, and that you've achieved a healthy BMI of 24.9. That is soooooo great!!!! Are you going to ask the admin people for an 'I did it' Badge?
Your progress is very inspiring! Especially that you've managed to lose weight despite being on holiday from work for the past month, and you've also coped with a Bank Holiday weekend.
Sounds like you had some nice trips out this week with your husband, and I hope your fitness tracker arrives soon, so you can enjoy using that.
You've set yourself some excellent goals, and you sound motivated and focused for the week ahead. Good luck with the change in routine tomorrow, as you return to work, and I hope it goes well. In the meantime, enjoy today!
I think you did well to put on such a small amount and I'm sure it will shift in the coming week. Bank holidays can be hard as we are usually surrounded by family and friends and we are often tempted by everything around us.
Congratulations on losing 3.5 pounds this week, that is amazing! Also, very happy to hear you've gone from the 14's into the 13's, that is a really exciting transition - really well done!
I can imagine you are feeling amazing with such great progress. Very inspiring!
Thanks so much for your very kind words - I love the fact you mentioned my gain is probably fluid - and also that you are supporting me to lose 2 pounds next week.
Congratulations to you for losing 2 pounds this week - that is fantastic! I really do hope to follow your example next week, and lose the same amount. I remember that you said last week that you were going to 'start again in earnest', and I will use those same words to motivate myself for this week.
Stepped on the scales and they said I had put on nearly a stone!
Later in the day my son said he had managed to put on a stone!
So it looks like we need new scales, phew. What a shock it had been as I have been off diet for nearly three weeks and I know my son hasn't put on weight, he obviously inherited skinny genes somewhere along the line!
Starting again tomorrow, as it's our wedding anniversary and we are going out for a curry, haven't been out for one for over a year, but I will try to be good!
I think you definitely need new scales! I was a bit shocked at first when I read the first two lines of your post today, and wondered what your family had been doing over the past week. Glad to hear it is a technical glitch, and nothing more than that.
I hope you've had a good break, and Congratulations on your Wedding Anniversary for today - I hope you have a lovely meal tonight - Mmmmm, Curry sounds delicious! Your first one in over a year, I hope you really enjoy it!
Happy Wedding Anniversary! (I know I'm repeating myself, but I just wanted to say it again!).
Good luck with re-starting your healthy eating plan tomorrow, and hope you have a great week.
Bank holiday sales excellent time to get new scales. I'm heading out later for a new dvd player so I can use my exercise program. Hope we both get a bargain!
I stayed the same, which I'm very pleased with. A last minute village show crisis had me baking cakes and helping with the cake stall. Not good for diets!
Holidays in POrtugal tomorrow, so won't be posting for a couple of weeks.
Planning on swimming a lot and eating fish and salads. The trouble I find is the portion sizes are way too big for me, so expecting to gain about 4lbs.
Hope you keep focused and manage to loose those 2lbs this week Lowcal.
Well done for maintaining your weight this week, despite helping with the cake stall, I can imagine that would be challenging!
Great to hear you're off on holiday to Portugal tomorrow - sounds idyllic doing all that swimming and eating fish and salads. Hope you have a lovely time, and will look forward to catching up with you when you get back.
Thanks for your encouraging words, I'll do my best to try to lose those 2 pounds. Hope to be closer to the 13's by the time I next 'speak' with you!
Wishing you Happy Holidays! Maybe you'll cope better than you anticipate with the portion sizes - good luck!
Lowcal
Hi lowcal hope you lose those 2lb this week. It's hard to keep going. I am still at the same weight which I am really pleased about. I think I am nearing the time when I can get back to walking. I had a 40min walk on Saturday.
Actually healthy eating may take a little longer as I am now working on reintroducing foods after being on the elimination diet. It's a slow process reintroducing foods as you have to do it really slowly.
I gave my self a lactose challenge on Monday last week and felt the effects within 40mins. So I now know dairy milk is out. Also had a wheat challenge and that is a no no too! Challenging but manageable. I am enjoying making my own bread which is rather yummy.
So focusing on the food challenges at the moment whilst aiming to maintain current weight.
Well done for maintaining your weight this week. It must be especially challenging as you're re-introducing your foods following the elimination diet. I did read about that process once, and it looked like an incredibly long procedure. It's good that you've identified your intolerance to lactose - so you can avoid diary milk, and it's great that you're enjoying making your own bread, so that you can avoid wheat. I can imagine the bread will be really delicious, being home-baked. Lovely!
I think it's very sensible to aim to maintain your weight, whilst making all those changes in your food intake. You're doing really well, and I hope you have another great week ahead.
Thanks for your encouraging words to me also, which I appreciate!
Hello all, well earlier in the year I lost a stone, then three months of stress and viruses meant I lost the motivation with calorie counting. I'm pleased that Ive maintained this loss by having changed my way of eating, but I've had to accept that life isn't going to give me a nice stress and illness free stretch of 6 months to lose the other two stone so I'm going to have to just get on with it . I've really enjoyed reading other people's posts on here and seeing what works for other people, there's a huge variety of ideas to explore. When I initially looked at the nhs 12 week plan it all seemed very sensible good advice, but nothing new, and I thought it wouldn't really benefit me that much as I couldn't follow it to the letter. I have chronically inflamed salivary glands which flare up at any sort of infection. Due to a liver enzyme deficiency I get fatigued, I already walk a lot but can't do high intensity exercise as it can cause a sudden blood sugar drop, can't cut calories too low for the same reason, and hardly ever drink alcohol so the drinks week is a bit redundant for me. Also I felt the week on comfort eating to be too simplistic - comfort eating or in my case stress eating is often a complex deeply rooted problem that would take more than a week to address. However I've seen a lot of you on this forum doing incredibly well with the 12 week plan and really seeming to enjoy it as well as successful weight loss, so I took another look. It occurred to me that it's not just the specific content of the plan that works, it's having a clear structure built up over a period of time with regular review of goals which gives you the time to establish good habits and keeps you interested and motivated. Ive already found a way of maintaining my weight by taking ideas from different ways of eating and tweaking them to suit me. So my plan is to take the 12 week plan and tweak that to suit me too. I'll read the plan each week, take from it what I find useful, and if need be add another goal that's relevant to me.
So - starting weight today 10 stone 12 1/2 lb. I will be aiming for 1500 calories due to above reasons, but I'm not concerned about quick loss, just loss!
Thankyou to anyone taking the time to read my long post, I'm hoping this will get me kick- started again.
I really enjoyed reading your post, and thank you for taking the time to write it. Firstly, I'd like to say Congratulations for achieving and maintaining a loss of a stone, despite some challenging issues - that is such a great achievement, and really well done.
I think your idea to take the 12 week plan and tweak it to suit your individual needs is really good, because I believe that each of us takes something slightly different from the plan, and that some parts relate more to us as individuals than other bits - and you clearly gave some good examples of that variability within your own experience of the plan. I agree with you that having the structure and regular review of goals definitely helps. That's why I particularly wanted to lead a weekly weigh-in thread, as I knew it would enable me to share my own goals with others on the similar weight-loss journeys, and would mean I would need to be here to be accountable not only to myself, but also to others who want to share in the group thread experience. Sometimes I don't feel like weighing in, but I do it, and I find that I always learn something new - in terms of some advice or support from someone on here, and it really helps.
I'd like to welcome you to this thread, because I've seen you around on the forum, but think this is possibly your first visit into the Monday weigh-in thread, and you are very welcome! You've shared your starting weight, as of today, and you've set your calories at 1500 for the week, so I'd like to wish you a great week ahead, and I think your goal to achieve a loss, is a great goal.
Thank you for the welcome Lowcal, and after reading your initial post this morning really agree about planning as its difficult to find healthy food in a hurry at work when I'm hungry and tired. Going to get organised tomorrow for work weds to Sunday.
I am sure you will manage the 2lb in the coming week, holidays and days off are always such a challenge., but you are focused and you will get there !!!
My weight was 209.6lb, this morning it is 209 lb.
Not quite what I aimed for, but after Saturday's elastic ping, not too bad.
Am planning a 4.5 mile walk today if the rest of the family is playing a fun cricket match I have decided to walk there !!! Hoping its not cancelled and enough people show up for it to go ahead, otherwise I'll have to do a shorter walk or some exercises at home.
I have learned a really important thing on this forum. I have always used a whole assembly of excuses not to go out and walk: too late, no time, something I want to watch on tv,....
I have now realized that I am enjoying going out and I can see the difference it makes.
I don't think I will be able to do "couch to 5km" as I'm not sure my knees would appreciate it (maybe that's an excuse too?), but I certainly love walking with little running intervals, and maybe these get longer over time.
Anyway, enjoy your bank holiday everyone (in the UK ),
Well done on the loss all adds up! Hope the cricket goes ahead - 4.5 mile walk is not something to sniff at!!
I'm thinking about doing the couch 2 5k but haven't started it yet either! Sounds like you have started it already with doing running intervals between walks!
Congratulations on losing 0.6 pound this week, that is really great! Especially after your Saturday elastic ping, your walk you did that day obviously did help get you back on track again! It put some elastic back in that band! I noticed that you lost 4 pounds last week, so to have made a further loss the week after a big loss like that is also incredible - particularly after a Bank Holiday weekend. You're doing really great! Your star chart must be enjoying this experience too.
Great that you've planned another walk for today - 4.5 miles is a long way!!! I hope you have a great Bank Holiday weekend, and enjoy the day.
I really like your idea of walking and then incorporating little running intervals - that's good fun, and also really great exercise. I do that sometimes too, especially when I'm walking by myself.
Thanks for your encouraging words, and I'll try my best to also make a loss on the scales for next week. I need to keep up with all you 'losers'
Hi Lowcal, 0.4 pound this week is hardly anything so well done. It's great that you have been doing some core conditioning exercises and are noticing that your waist is more toned. I have just discovered one for the core which you can do in your bed that you may want to try out. It's just like the plank and you just lye on your back lift your legs up arms and upper body and hold it for 20 - 30 secs. This exercise is much easier on the back and still works as though you are doing the plank on the floor and can be done in the comfort of your own bed I got the shakes so I know it works.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the bank holiday and the rest of the week following and good luck losing those 2 pounds by next weigh in hun
The group have done extremely well with their weight loss totalling 71.15 lbs, that is fab
You are very kind, and I appreciate your encouraging words. I also like the core exercise you suggested, and I'll definitely try that out. Thanks very much!
Yes, the group is doing soooooo well - 71.15 pounds (32.27 kilos) is an amazing net weight loss. Phenomenal....!
Wishing you a great Bank Holiday and hope you have a great week ahead. I'll look out for your posts later in the week.
Good morning Lowcal and good morning everyone, welcome to a very wet and abysmal Lincolnshire day.Yuk!
Well done Lowcal, you did the best ever Bank Holiday and such a minimal amount gained. You are sure to achieve your goal for next week with that determination. I know you can do it.
Last week I was 12st 8.0lbs and this week 12st 6.4lbs so 1.6 lbs lighter. I just seem to be consistent with a pound and a half every week which is steady although might have lost a bit more if I hadn't looked at all the buffet food and cakes at the funeral Thursday!!! I resisted and just had x3 baby plum tomatoes instead.
This week is going to be different as can only make it to the gym twice instead of my usual three times so although not quite on target for next week and the last weigh in before my holiday, it's going to be so pretty close. Stay tuned!
Congratulations to you for losing 1.6 pounds this week, and for making such great and consistent progress over the past few weeks - like you say, a pound and a half most weeks is really great! I hope you coped ok with the funeral on Thursday, and that it went ok.
Well done for resisting the buffet food and cakes, and selecting the baby plum tomatoes. That shows very good discipline!
Good luck with this week's goals, and I know you can't make as many gym sessions as you'd like, but hopefully you'll make the ones you do have count. You're very close to your goal, and it's not long till your holiday now. Something to look forward to.
Well done for maintaining this week. You are so close to your target weight, you have lost so much and been so focused for so long and made it into a positive experience for so many other people that it must be maddening that the scales don't reflect that effort. Great that you have broken the bank holiday over eating curse, I don't doubt for a minute that you will keep it up today.
It brilliant that you have adopted additional exercise routines and are feeling more "toney". Hope you are enjoying them.
Last Monday I weighed 93.7
This morning End of week 14 I weigh 93.4.
I don't lose weight quickly. Last week healthiest week of my adult life! Lowest calorie intake, really healthy eating, activeall the time because I went on a budget break in Cardiff -cycling, site seeing, grazing salads on the banks of the river, weather perfect.
My appetite has changed considerably, I have never had a holiday before that didn't involve afternoon tea shops, curries and cooking lovely meals.
Next week is very quiet, a lot of work, my usual cycling-weights-swimming, some fun lunches planned and I might try and give up coffee.
Your post is particularly inspiring - and I really enjoyed reading it - you've enjoyed a lovely break in Cardiff and thoroughly enjoyed that time, and you've returned with a 0.3 kilo loss on the scales - Many Congratulations!!! - I think it's very unusual to lose weight after a holiday, so you have really done well to achieve that! It shows how much your appetite has changed, and also that you're active and best of all - you described it as the "healthiest week of your adult life" - fantastic! Well done you!
I love the description of feeling more 'toney' - I definitely feel like that! Thanks for your lovely words of encouragement - I feel like I've been 'stuck' at this weight for the last few weeks, but I know it's an achievement to have maintained weight, and made a very tiny gain over the Bank Holiday, so I am holding onto my positivity and I am hoping for a loss on the scales very soon.
I hope you enjoy your fun lunches next week, and also if you decide to give up coffee - then I hope it goes ok - I can imagine that could be challenging if you suffer from caffeine withdrawal.
Great to see you, and a Very Warm Welcome to this Monday weigh-in thread. It's so great that you've joined us, and you've taken the first brave step of sharing your starting weight, so well done for doing that. Like you say, you've faced the challenge of standing on the scales, but it's downwards hopefully from here on. You'll be seeing those 15's very soon, all being well!
Have you downloaded the NHS 12 week plan? Some people find it helpful to keep it in view, to refer to easily. Also, using the Myfitnesspal or similar app can help to track the calories and exercise etc. I know I communicated with you in the forum yesterday, but can't remember whether I mentioned those things or not. Good luck with everything.
Thank you! I hope to remain fairly controlled for the remaining part of today!
Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week, that is really great! Also, it's brilliant to hear you've successfully stopped smoking since last Tuesday - that's really great too. Lots of positives this week for you.
I hope you're enjoying doing the C25k with your sister, and also that extra exercise generally. You'll be getting fitter by the minute!
Hope you enjoy the remainder of the Bank Holiday, and wishing you another great week ahead.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday weigh-in - I see you're doing 'week 2' for about the 100th time - you must be getting a bit frustrated to keep repeating it - have you been doing 'week 2' of lots of different diets over the years, or have you been doing 'week 2' of the NHS 12 week plan? I don't think I've seen you on the forum previously, so just wanted to ask you how you've been getting on.
Congratulations for losing some inches, and sorry to hear that hasn't reflected on the scale yet. Hopefully it will catch up, but it might be that you're gaining some muscle, if you're doing lots of exercise, and that does weigh a bit more.
It's difficult for me to comment more than that, as I don't know much about you - but if you're not using the NHS 12 week plan, I'd definitely recommend you take a look to see if you think it might help. Also Myfitnesspal is a good app for recording calories and exercise, and you can look at the nutritional content of your meals in terms of fats, carbs, protein etc. to ensure you're eating within the recommended levels.
The positive is you've lost inches, and that is significant. Well done!
Hope to see you at future weigh-ins, and around and about on the forum.
Wishing you a good week ahead, and hopefully you might be looking at 'week 3' sometime soon.
I am doing the 12 week plan using my fitness pal and trying to do clean eating within the calorie allowance...I initially signed up in April but I'm quite good at the 1 bad meal spoils the whole week!
I've done every diet under the sun...I have PCOS so losing weight is hard. I do am very active I do karate and kickboxing 3 times a week and PT on a Saturday...think before I've eaten the right foods but too much.
Thanks for telling me a bit more about yourself. You sound like you're eating healthily and doing plenty of exercise - like you say just 1 bad meal can be a bit of spoiler for the whole week, but I think it's great that you're keeping going with the NHS 12 week plan. You must be toning up your body, and those inches lost are due to your hard work. It's not all about the scales. You are probably building your muscle mass, which will be great for increasing your metabolism. Karate and Kick-boxing sounds really intense! Hope you're enjoying it.
Keep going, sounds like you're doing well at keeping on track, but just need to look at the '1 bad meal' scenario - i.e. make some tweaks within that to help you to change that pattern to support the great work you're doing for three-quarters of the week.
Thank you for doing the weigh in on a Bank Holiday Monday!
0.4lbs is minimal, especially as it's bank holiday weekend! Good luck on your goal for next week - you sound very determined - I know you will do it!
I am weighing in at 9 stone 9.2lbs this week, a loss of 1.6 lbs. Happy with this as I thought with my blow out Friday the scales wouldn't be kind. All that digging in the garden worked and I was inspired by another post to go to body combat again yesterday too
It's inspiring seeing your list of weekly stats - and Congratulations on losing another 1.6 pounds this week. You're doing so well, with consistent progress and losses on the scales every week so far. Well done! You managed to cope well this week, despite a blow out on Friday, so that digging in the garden and your Body Combat yesterday must have really helped. It's great that you gained inspiration from another post - that often happens to me, in that I see someone's post and it makes me focus more or introduces me to a new idea, and I love that exchange of ideas and motivators.
Thanks for your encouraging words to me. I am staying positive and focused - I hope to see a loss on my scales very soon!
A positive and honest appraisal as usual. This is my first weigh-in since starting last Monday and am pleased to record a loss of 4lbs so now 19st 1 lb or 121.2kg hurrah! If I'm being absolutely honest it could have been less but I was at a retirement do on Friday, a lunch-out on Tuesday and have got visitors with me at the moment-all of which would normally send me into weight-gain so am feeling pleased but not ecstatic. No social events planned for the week ahead so hoping for a similar loss next Monday. Am going to be getting into C25K this week so as to up my activity levels so wishing everyone on the Monday weigh-in a positive week ahead and see you later!
Great to see you again, and I am really happy to hear what a great first week you've had - Congratulations on losing 4 pounds, that is fantastic!!!! You're getting close to the 18's - they are in sight already!
I hope you enjoyed the Retirement Do on Friday, and the lunch out on Tuesday - and well done for coping with having visitors over currently - all those things are challenges, and you're obviously doing well to negotiate your way through those things without weight-gain. Really well done!
Good luck with starting the C25K this week - hope it goes really well, and hope you have an enjoyable week ahead.
Look forward to catching up with you again later, and enjoy Bank Holiday Monday!
Week 2 I started at 13st 10.75 and today I am 13st 7.75 so that's a loss of 3lbs this week and 6.75lbs in two weeks. Pleased with how things are going at the moment, hoping to stay focussed.
Congratulations on losing 0.75 pound this week, that is really great! Also, well done for doing that 13 mile bike ride, plus 3 mile run - sounds like you've had a really active weekend so far - very inspiring!
You've got some good goals for this week, so good luck with the moderate exercise and no alcohol till next weekend.
Wishing you a great Bank Holiday weekend and another good week ahead.
In the grand scheme of things such a small gain isn't so bad and easily corrected and turned around, I'm sure you will have things under control and achieve your goal next week. It's so easy to lower our guard when we're at home relaxing over a bank holiday weekend but tomorrow back to the same old grind!
I've shed 2 more lbs this week, taking me comfortably into the 9's and just 2.5lbs away from my target weight with 4 weeks left until I reach my target date. My body appears to have set a pattern of losing 2lbs every 2nd week so although I would like to set a target of 2lbs for next week, something tells me I will maintain but that's ok just so long as I'm at target weight by 28th September I will have succeeded to achieve what I set out to do last March.
Congratulations to you for losing 2 more pounds this week, and taking you comfortably into the 9's - Congratulations!!! That is so great!
It's good that you've noticed the pattern that your body is preferring in terms of losing 2 pounds and then maintaining the week after and then repeating the pattern, as that means you can work with that - and the really great thing is that you are well on target for your ultimate goal and should easily reach it (all being well) by 28th September.
So wishing you another great week ahead, and keep going - you're doing brilliantly!
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday weigh-in. I'm glad you found us, and weighed in today with your starting weight. Hope it was ok sharing your weight today, and hope you have a great week ahead, and hopefully will be reporting a loss on the scales next week, all being well.
Wishing you a great week. Are you doing the NHS 12 week plan?
Happy bank holiday Lowcal & everyone's! Lowcal, in my book you've maintained, I don't count the decimal points!
I'm 11.10 today so 1lb down on last week which I so don't deserve as I was away and ate everything I was presented with and more! Did exercise everyday though walking & running. Noticed my 5k time improving a bit too. I don't know how to post a photo on here but have the most fantastic pic of me and my son at our local parkrun which would inspire anyone to get moving.
1st of the month tomorrow, time to get serious! Good luck all.
I like the way you're thinking, in terms of not counting the decimal points - I'll take that!
Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, even though you don't feel as if you deserve that loss - I challenge that thought, as I think you do deserve it! Sounds like you enjoyed your trip away - wasn't that for your special Birthday celebrations? I think you definitely deserved to enjoy those! You did lots of exercise everyday to compensate. Great that your 5k time has improved a bit too. I'm not sure how you post a picture - I know Prin has posted one before, and also Trafford1 as well, so maybe they can advise...!? Great that you and your son enjoyed the Parkrun.
Yes, 1st of the month tomorrow. Great to know there's a fresh month ahead of us all, and plenty of opportunities to make further progress with our weight loss goals. We can do it!
I celebrated my birthday on 16th in Croatia. This was a trip to visit family in Ireland so yes, the party continued! One more celebration due with friends later in September then it will be done & dusted! 5 sets of candles blown out so far!
Sounds like you are remaining really positive and focused.
My my starting weight 14st 12lbs
This week a 1lb weight loss sees me weigh in at 14st 3lbs. That's a 9lb weight loss in 3 weeks. I have lost 3 inches of my waist and an inch off my hips.
I had lunch out on Saturday and tried to plan as best I could but definitely went over my calories. Pulled it back yesterday.
Next week more of the same...walking daily, keeping a record of what I'm eating including calories. I have purchased some resistance band's, a hoopla hoop to go with my kettle weight. Just need to schedule in some exercise. Good luck everyone.
Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, and to achieving a loss of 9 pounds in 3 weeks, that's really great! Fantastic to hear you've also lost 3 inches off your waist and an inch off your hips. Really well done
It's often difficult to eat out, so well done for trying to pre-plan that event, and that probably meant you didn't go over your calories as much as you would have done if you hadn't pre-planned. You've compensated yesterday today, so that should definitely help.
Great that you're walking daily, and recording your food and drink intake.
Hope you enjoy using the resistance bands, and your hoopla hoop. I really like using a kettle-bell, really good! Hope you find time to schedule in your exercise. You're well prepared with your exercise equipment!
I like your recommendations re: the strength training - I've been trying to do more strength training myself this past few weeks. I didn't manage to load up the Strength and Flex podcasts, but I have managed to find some exercises that help.
Hi Lowcal and everyone, I joined last Monday so my first week, I've been good all week, logged all my food and exercise, with MFP and my Fitbit, last Monday morning I weighed 12st 5lb, this morning I weighed 12st 1 + 3 quarter pounds. Very happy with that although I know it's my first week and people normally lose more in the first week, but I'm going to stick with it and hope to get in the 11's next week. 😀
Yes, I remember you from last week, and great to see you again!
Congratulations on losing 3.25 pounds this week, that is a really great start! Some people do lose more in the first week, but some people lose less too, so I think you've made a really good start. Your weight loss is likely to decrease as time goes on, and aiming for 1 to 2 pound loss per week subsequently is good.
Good luck with your goal to get into the 11's next week. You're getting very close!
Wishing you a great Bank Holiday and hope you have another great week ahead. Hope you enjoyed the first week on the plan.
I am new to the site so this is my first week and first weighing in
Start weight 27st 9 (175kg)
Todays weight 26st 13 (171kg)
Loss 10lb (4kg)
I have always shyed away from sites as I was ashamed of my weight and constantly battling with it but the encouragement I read here I feel is what I need to help me along my weight loss path. I am alone, comfort eater and depressant with a weird sense of humour (so apologise now for that) who for health reasons needs to lose this weight.
I have come to realise that every pound lost is a positive and a gain is not the end of the world as long as you do not allow it to be.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Monday weigh-in thread. I agree completely with your words that 'every pound lost is a positive and a gain is not the end of the world' - that is so true! Infact, on those occasions that people gain weight (as I have done today - although Bealmor has told me it doesn't really count as it's a decimal amount ), it's good to look at why and learn from it and move forward.
You've taken a brave step of posting your starting weight and end of week 1 weigh-in results today on this weigh-in thread, and I particularly applaud your courage, because you commented that you have always shied away from sites. It is a very personal thing to share details of our weight, and it can be outside our comfort zone, particularly when first doing it - so well done for taking that step. I hope it didn't feel as bad as you anticipated.
Congratulations on losing 10 pounds in your first week, that is such a fantastic start. I hope you enjoyed the week.
I hope you'll find this forum to be a positive experience, and I look forward to seeing you at future weigh-ins, and also around and about in the forum. The good thing about the forum is that you can pretty much join in as little or as much as you want to, and it's got some great people who are very supportive and encouraging - we're all in the same boat, in terms of wanting to lose or maintain weight loss, and can share our experiences of doing that in what feels like a very supportive environment.
I hope you have another great week ahead, and I hope you're enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend.
Morning Lowcal, Bank Holidays are always going to be a challenge but your gain is a very small one and I'm sure you'll manage to turn it around this week. I haven't lost any weight this week, I am a little disappointed but always knew that this would be a challenging week with extra work commitments. I now have one week before my holiday and my target is to lose 2 lb and then maintain my loss during my weeks holiday. I'm going to post my weigh in next Saturday morning just to make sure that I stay committed for the week. Good luck in turning your tiny gain in to a loss this week.
I know you're a little disappointed that you didn't have a loss on the scales, but I would still like to Congratulate you for maintaining your weight loss - you lost 2.5 pounds last week, and you've managed to keep that off, despite the Bank Holiday weekend, and also you knew this was going to be a challenging week with the extra work commitments, so you've done extremely well to maintain.
You've set yourself a good goal in terms of hoping for a 2 pound loss and then maintainance over your holiday - and I'll look out for your weight loss post on Saturday. Good luck with achieving the 2 pounds. I'm also hoping for that amount this week.
My husband has just been shopping for some groceries, and I gave him a list, but somehow he came back with some 'crumpets and butter'(which were not on the list) - so guess what, that was an unexpected and unplanned 'snack' I've ended up having mid-morning. Where was my will-power? It seemed to 'disappear' - that is the Bank Holiday Monday 'effect' in my view - but that is going to be my only unplanned extra today - I will add it onto MFP and hope to do some exercise later to compensate!
Wishing you a lovely holiday, and look forward to catching up with you when you get back - although I will look out for your pre-holiday weigh-in post on Saturday too.
I'm just compiling the weekly group stats, and noticed you're on the eve of your Saturday morning weigh-in, so 'Good luck' for tomorrow, and I'll look out for your post!
I'm glad you posted again, as I didn't get your earlier post, so you've safely submitted it now, and I've received it fine!
Thanks for your encouraging words.
Congratulations to you for losing 1.5 pounds this week, it's great to see your stats from the start of the year to now as well - extremely inspiring, and FANTASTIC progress. Great that you have seen changes in your photo from a year ago - I'm sure lots of people must have noticed the changes in you.
Hope your daughter's Birthday and the family gathering goes ok - and yes, here's to a sunny week ahead. Hopefully September will bring lots of sunshine our way.
I've lost 0.2lbs since last Monday, which I'm over the moon about as I was in Disneyland Paris for 4 days, surrounded by fatty and sugary treats! I think I was spared, only by all of the great walking and by dodging the chips and popcorn... just!
I'm hoping for a 2lb loss this week - I don't see why not!
Congratulations on losing 0.2 pound this week - that's so great that you managed a loss in weight despite spending 4 days at Disneyland Paris. Really well done for dodging the chips and popcorn, and for doing all that walking.
Yes, let's go for that 2 pound loss this week - that's my goal as well.
Have another fabulous week, and enjoy the Bank Holiday today!
I weighed this morning and am down from 67.5 kilos last Monday to 66.8 kgs ....a loss of 0.7 kgs which is ,I think, around 1 and a half pounds...so I'm happy enough with that.
I felt much more committed to the cause this week after coming on here ....rather that I was more accountable for my actions and not just to myself .
I fitted in three runs ,two bike rides and a decent length dog walk for a friend .
Despite eating out once and having friends round for a meal at the weekend I felt I made much more sensible choices than of late and definitely cut the alcohol right back.
Hoping to drop down into the 65's by next Monday 😊
Thankyou for hosting the weigh in even though it's a Bank Holiday there ( I am in France so just an ordinary Monday here).
Great to see you again, and really glad to hear you've lost 0.7 kgs, Congratulations for doing that! Really good!
It's good that you also fitted in 3 runs, 2 bike rides and a good walk with your friend's dog.
It's good that you were able to enjoy eating out and also having your friends round for a meal at the weekend, and that you noticed you'd made more sensible choices and also reduced your alcohol content. Shows you can still socialise and enjoy those events, and still keep in control of your weight loss goals.
Good luck with getting into the 65's by next Monday. I know you don't have the Bank Holiday over there in France (do you speak fluent French?) - but I hope you are enjoying your day nevertheless.
Hope you're all having a great Bank Holiday despite the weather!
Start weight 14st 1lb
Week 1: 13st 11.5lb
Week 2: 13st 10lb
Week 3: 13st 10lb
Week 4: 13st 8lb
2lb weight loss this week with a total of 7lb altogether, which makes me very happy 😀.
Onwards and downwards☺.
Off work for the week and that always makes losing weight more difficult especially as I'm going to my sisters for a couple of days and no doubt there will be wine involved 😨 and meals are a little out of my control, but i will track and if i go over on calories while I'm there I'll lower my calories for the remainder of the week.
Thanks for joining us today, for this Monday weigh-in.
Wow, you're making great progress with your weight loss goals - it's good to see your weekly stats, and Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week, and to achieving half a stone in total - really great!!!
I hope you enjoy your holiday and that you manage to cope ok with those couple of days at your sister's. Makes it more challenging when you're a guest, even when it's family, but hopefully you'll do fine with your plan to track and compensate accordingly.
Hope you have a lovely holiday, and enjoy your week.
Thank you for your encouragement lowcal. I'm really pleased with my loss so far and looking forward to my visit to my sister. She lives in York so plenty of lovely walks to be had through the city and by the river (weather permitting). I used to live in York as a teenager and cycled everywhere as its so flat but where I live now in west Yorkshire I wouldn't even try cycling , walking up the hills here can be enough of a challenge.
It's muggy and humid here today and we need a storm to clear it but the storms that were forecast seem to have bypassed this region.
Had it been cooler I'd have been off for my run this morning, but that's postponed now til tomorrow .
I wouldn't say " fluent" ...but I can get by ! There are a lot of Brits and English-speaking Dutch round here ,so that can make it harder to put the French speaking into practice at times !
Hi again - just to let you know I'm off out for a while - a few Bank Holiday commitments to fulfill, but I'll be back later to answer any further Monday weigh-in thread posts.
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal, I am new to your weekly weight in. Last week I was 13st, this week 13st 3lb.
I gave in to my down mood last week and did a bit of comfort eating which is not good. So this week I am looking to start a fresh and hopefully no comfort eating. Going to forget last weeks disaster and concentrate on this week and healthy eating instead.
A very warm welcome to you, and thanks for joining us for this Bank Holiday weigh-in thread. Sorry to hear your mood was down last week, and comfort eating can be easy to do in that circumstance. Glad that you are putting last week into the past, and that you're starting afresh this week - hope you have a better week. You'll soon get rid of that 3 pound gain.
Are you doing the NHS 12 week plan? If you've not seen it, then click on the icon above labelled "Weight Loss NHS" and you can access it via that link.
Maybe think of a list of things you could try to do, instead of comfort eating, if that down mood strikes again - sometimes it can be good to have a list of pre-prepared things to try - e.g things like: 1) Talk to a friend; 2) Listen to some uplifting music; 3) Have a dance to a song on the radio; 4) do some star jumps whilst making a cup of tea; 5) spend 10 minutes writing about my feelings right now, and thinking about what I might say to a friend if he/she was feeling that way; 6) make a cup of tea; 7) go outside for a walk; 8) look at some recipes to see if there's a new one I could try; 9) watch an uplifting programme on TV; 10) do some gardening or another activity that I enjoy.
I've just listed a few random things, but the important thing would be to create your own list and things that you think might work for you. When a bad mood comes, sometimes distraction can help, or focusing on it to problem solve the situation, but whatever you do, don't let it drag you down, and try not to resort to comfort eating. Keep temptations out of your sight!
Hope you have a great week ahead. Hope to see you again at next Monday's weigh-in, and out and about in the forum.
Thank you. This week had been better. Not sure if I've lost any weight, but I've certainly not ate as much bad things. I've looked out my Hairy Bikers Diet recipe book again cause I haven't used that in a while and I love their recipes. I've stocked up on fruit and veg and not bought any biscuits or crisps this week. So fingers crossed. I've started back at my archery club and am getting ready for the indoor competition season, so have lots of exercises to do to get my strength and posture sorted for that. So fingers crossed all this will help.
Glad to hear you've had a better week, that's good to hear!
I have a Hair Biker's Recipe book, but it's not one of the diet ones, it's called "Complete Mums Know Best" and it's a nice one.
Good luck with the Archery club competition season, sound like good fun, and like you say, you need to do strength and posture exercises to help with that.
Yes, fingers crossed for tomorrow's weigh-in! Look forward to seeing you there!
Afternoon Lowcal your gain is the equivalent of a bowel movement! It will be off next week along with the other1.5lb. Did really well last week, but my nemesis THE WEEKEND got in the way, never the less managed to claw back 2lb of the gain, and Woluld like to lose another 2 this week, on the positive - I have upped my weights at body pump by 1 kilo each side on the squats that's from 12.5 kilo to 13.5 but biceps is 5 kg to 6 ☺️ So a much bigger %. I bought 2 items pair of size 10 trousers, that fit but will fit better @ 10.13 and a dress. I am registering one of my fitness instructors weddings on 19 September so need to be in the top 10's by then. Have a good week folks and try not to get too wet!
Yes, you're right! The equivalent of a bowel movement, why didn't I do something about that!!!
Glad to hear you did really well last week, and sorry to hear that the Bank Holiday weekend NEMESIS took its toll, but fantastic news to hear you've managed to lose 2 pounds this week nevertheless. That is brilliant! Congratulations!
Wow, I can imagine your body pump will be quite tough with that extra kilo each side, and wow, your biceps must definitely get a work-out with 6kg - definitely a bigger percentage.
Great that you bought those size 10 trousers, and a new dress too. Lovely!
Great that you have a goal to work towards on 19th September.
Hope you have another great week ahead, and good luck with the goal for another 2 pounds off. I hope to join you on that one!
I am the same, 17 stone 2 lbs we had an overnight stay in a nice hotel in the west midlands and had a visit to Cadbury's world. (naughty) Something else I booked way in advance before my weight loss efforts started. Ah, at least I am maintaining my weight.
Little boo is back at pre-school this week, so we will be getting more active, as I have booked gymnastics lessons and swimming lessons for her. I can try and get to some group fitness classes whilst she at pre-school.
I was hoping to loose another stone before seeing husband's family at Christmas, but we are now seeing them all at the end of September. I would like to loose 1/2 a stone for then. So I aim to use my juicer, each day, as I have been since I brought it and get more exercise in.
Great to see you! I hope you enjoyed your overnight stay in the West Midlands, and I can imagine the visit to Cadbury World was tempting in many ways!!! Like you say, at least you're maintaining your weight, and Congratulations for doing that. It is definitely an achievement to maintain, and should be celebrated.
I hope Little Boo is coping with her return to pre-school, and it's good that you have more time to be more active as a result. Great that you can get to some group fitness classes, those should hopefully be fun!
Great that you have the incentive of losing half a stone by the end of September, for when you meet up with your in-laws.
Hope you're enjoying your juicing, and wishing you a really great week ahead.
Lowcal
Started today on week 1. This is a great idea to get everyone motivated!
Fantastic that you've joined us today in this Monday weigh-in thread for your day 1 of the plan - I assume you're doing the NHS 12 week plan, so wishing you lots of success with it. This weigh-in thread has been going for over 2 years now, and it's grown to be very active recently, with lots of responses, which is very motivating. People are definitely enthusiastic and they are making great progress. The group stats speak for themselves.
Are you using an app to help you to track your calories and exercise? I can recommend Myfitnesspal, as it's easy to use, and it's free. It really helps make that side of things easy.
I hope to see you out and about in the forum, and hopefully in next Monday's weigh-in. Wishing you a really great first week. Wishing you a very Warm Welcome.
Hi lowcal, can I gatecrash here? There was a group of us who started the programme around the same time (beginning of August), but I'm the only one who seems to be posting. Starting weight 18 st 1.5 lb, current weight 17 st 9 lbs, 2 lb off this week.
You are very welcome indeed, and glad you've joined in with our Monday weigh-in today. Seems like you've survived your group who started at the beginning of August, and they have either left, or gone to be 'silent members' - I think some people enjoy reading posts, and may not necessarily post themselves, and that's all good too, but I think it's great that you're joining us. So welcome!
Congratulations on your weight loss to date - you've lost 6.5 pounds in total, (I hope that's right, as my Maths sometimes challenges me) and you've lost 2 pounds this week - really good progress! Congratulations for making the transition from the 18's to the 17's. I started my weight loss journey at 18 stone 8 pounds, and I remember making that transition into the 17's and feeling so great about that. I hope you're feeling good!
I hope you're enjoying the plan so far - I'm assuming you're doing the NHS 12 week plan? You're doing really well, and I wish you another great week ahead. Look forward to catching up with you at next week's weigh-in, and around and about in the forum.
Yes, you can definitely join us. This Monday weigh-in thread is totally open to anyone, and I'm glad you've joined us today!
Wishing you a very Warm Welcome, and hope you enjoy your first week on the NHS 12 week plan. There are a few new people that have joined in today, as you'll see if you read back through the responses.
Are you using an app to help you to track your calories and exercise? Myfitnesspal is a good one.
Anyway, wishing you a great week. Looking forward to catching up with you next week. We do weigh-in every Monday, and I always post the thread just before 7am.
Yes, doing the 12 week plan and graduated yesterday from C25K, so feeling greaaaaaat!! Have lost 4 ins each off waist and hips and finding clothes much looser all over. Your Maths is spot on, by the way!
Not likely to be sabotaged too much by the BH weekend, as hubby is working, as am I (well, sort of, sending out end-of-month invoices), but it is son's b'day today, so have joined him in a small slice of homemade cake. Dinner is salad and a baked potato though! The help and advice on these forums is brilliant - I am really determined this time.
Oh, that's great that you've graduated from C25K yesterday, that's fantastic! Losing 4 inches off your waist and off your hips shows how you've changed your body shape.
Hope your son is enjoying his Birthday.
The fact you're feeling determined is a fantastic mind-set, and should help to see you through the week.
Will look forward to catching up with you next week.
Awww, no, you don't get a Bank Holiday either - Dave will sympathise with you when he wakes up - I think he might be sleeping currently, although I'm never sure what time it is in Australia relative to here. Hope you've had a good day despite not having the Bank Holiday.
Congratulations on losing 1 pound this week, that is really great! Wow, you've lost 21 pounds in total, and that is fantastic. Well done you!
Yes, let's hope we all have a great week ahead, and hope you have some Bank Holidays to look forward to soon. Do you get any in September?
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal,
Sorry to hear a bit of a blip but hey ho eh we are all human.
I do like your set goal for the week and there's no harm in looking back and preplanning.you will turn it around😃
Hi lowcal, congratulations on your not gaining that much weight given the fact of bank holiday. I weighed 59.3 kg last Monday and today I am 58.9 kg which means I lost 0.4 kg last week. I dont eat much and also working hard with my c25k training, strength and flex podcasts and cycling. Yet I am not losing much..
I dont know which aspect to focus- should I check my carb intake and go for a low carb diet? or should I increase the time and intensity of my exercise? I will have to be really busy with my PhD dissertation in the coming weeks and I am concerned about what will happen to my daily routine.
Hope you will be able to reach your goal this week.
Congratulations to you for losing 0.4 kg last week - I know you mentioned that you think that you are 'not losing much', but you had a loss of 1.1 kg last week, which is quite large, and so it's understandable that you might not have quite such a big loss the following week - it does tend to level out. So please try not to be disappointed, as you are doing well. Just keep going.
Great that you're working hard at the C25K training, strength and flex podcasts, and cycling. It could also be that you're toning up and developing your muscle mass, so that could also reduce the amount of weight you're losing.
I can't really advise you on what changes to make in terms of your suggestions to potentially reduce your carb intake - or increase the intensity of your exercise. I think it's ideal to lose between 1 and 2 pounds (sorry, can't remember the equivalent in kg, and it's too late for my Maths ability to work! ) - I always recommend a balance of carb intake, along with the other macronutrients (protein and healthy fats) and I personally tend to choose the complex carbs over the processed type - but I personally don't go for low carb dieting, as I worry about the potential negatives of doing that. I know there are people on the site who do like low carb diets - and I think there is a forum on Healthunlocked called the LCHF forum (which stands for low carb high fat) - so maybe you might want to ask that question in that forum, or maybe write a separate post to ask a question about it. You've get more responses that way, most likely. I am not an advocate of that way of eating, as I have reservations about it, but at the same time, you have specifically asked about 'low carb' dieting, so I wanted to suggest some options for you to find out more about it, if you want to do so.
I truly think you've been making good progress, but it sounds like you're hoping to lose more - I can understand your concerns about your daily routine when you start writing your PhD dissertation - but hopefully you can work something out to ensure you do still get to do your exercise etc, and eat healthily, because then your brain will be well fuelled to cope with the demands of your dissertation.
I hope this answer makes sense, as I'm writing it at 11pm or so, and I admit I am a bit tired.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and hope you enjoyed the Bank Holiday weekend.
Lowcal
I was 151.6 and after a holiday weekend away at a hotel with a fantastic chef I am now 155.6 so a gain of 4lb. Dont panic Mr Mannering! The next few days will be more controlled. And certainly I wont be eating fresh warm apple cake with clotted cream, tomorrow. It was a holiday and a lovely one, but now time to pay.
I hope you enjoyed your holiday away at the Hotel with the fantastic chef - and I think it's understandable that you gained 4 pounds in such circumstances. Glad you're not panicking Mr Mannering It's good to hear the next few days are going to be more controlled for you.
Fresh warm apple cake with clotted cream sounds particularly tasty!
I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday - you described it as a 'lovely' one, and you can't get better than that. Glad you enjoyed it, and good luck with the week ahead. You'll soon get that 4 pounds off again, once you're back on track.
It's not been a bank holiday here in Scotland unfortunately
Glad to read that you are bearing up relatively well in terms of a bank holiday weigh-in!
I've not posted for 4 weeks now due to various however for the past 3 weeks I have maintained my weight at 10st 10lbs - this makes me only 2lbs away from the average weight category. Now that I'm not obese, I'm definitely finding it harder to shed the pounds but am happy that I am maintaining and will hopefully be in a position to focus properly on my weight loss again soon.
Good luck to you Lowcal and all the other folk posting on this thread for a good weight loss week ahead
Great to see you! Sorry to hear you've not had a Bank Holiday up there in Scotland. It must feel quite unfair. Will you be having one at all in September? I hope so!!!
We've missed you here in the thread, and I'm glad you're back with us again. Congratulations for maintaining your weight at 10 stone 10 pounds - and being only 2 pounds away from the average weight category. When you say 'average' weight category, are you referring to 'healthy' BMI category? Just wanted to double check, as sometimes terms can mean different things.
I agree with you that it's more difficult to shift the weight, when you get closer to your target weight. So maintaining is definitely an achievement, and you are doing great to be maintaining.
Wishing you a great week ahead, and yes, let's hope for a good weight loss on the scales next week for all of us!
Just to say I'm going to bed - seem extremely tired. Should sleep well. Sorry if anyone's thread response towards the end of the night doesn't make sense, as I don't feel like I'm concentrating properly.... Need to refresh my batteries.
Some inspiring posts from everyone today - really enjoyed communicating with everyone.
Any late night weighers, I'll respond to your posts tomorrow.
Night night!
Lowcal
Hi Lowcal and everyone
Well done for almost maintaining, especially over the bank holiday weekend ! I would definitely stick with Prin's excuse from further down the thread
I've just got back from a few days away with family. I knew that eating wise was going to be a problem - not able to cook properly, eating food off market stalls etc. I walked every morning, and tried to make a few sensible food decisions, but generally fell off the wagon quite often (Pringles - ugh !! Tempura prawns - yum !!) Got back to find a couple of pounds weight gain...
However, weighed again this morning, and found that the weight gain had almost all gone, and in reality I'm only 0.2lb up from last week
So I've decided psychologically to ignore this last week, and I'm going to post a two week weight change next week, to give me a chance to get back into good habits again. Managed to do well yesterday, so I've not forgotten how !! I also started my first C25K run yesterday, which should also help.
Welcome back from your few days away with family, and I hope you had a lovely time! Great that you managed to walk each morning, and that you tried to make some sensible food decisions. It's so easy to fall off the wagon on holiday though, those Pringles and Tempura prawns obviously tempted you a little too much, but it's great that you only gained 0.2 pound, that is definitely purely a bowel motion (according to Prin's very sensible theory), and it will soon disappear!
Yes, psychologically, you're putting last week behind you. Good idea!
Great that you're going to post a 2 week weight change next week so that you can get back into good habits. Great that you already felt back on track yesterday, and that you did your first C25k run as well - I hope you enjoyed it!
Ruth has suggested a 30 day squat challenge, which I have decided to have a go at. You can see her suggestion in her response to Gracie (above in the post). It sounds good, so I'm going to give that a go too.
Is that a challenge to do one squat every 30 days - I like the sound of that
• in reply to
Hey Lucca, congrats on starting couch to 5k! Hope it goes well. It should definitely help, especially if you're thinking in psychological terms. I find a run in the morning gives me an incentive to make healthy decisions for the rest of that day. Lots of luck
• in reply to
Thanks Ruth
Hi Lowcal, hope it's okay to tag on to your weigh-in a day late. I've just read through the thread and it really does feel amazing to be part of this community where everyone is trying so hard to stick to their plans, especially in the face of bank hol challenges (or non bank hol challenges for those in other parts of the world!) I was at my boyfriend's yesterday where there aren't any scales but I've weighed in this morning at 10st10, which is the same as last week.
We had an aborted weekend away camping in Norfolk this weekend! Had a great day out on Sunday, a really long walk along the saltmarshes on the North Norfolk coast at low tide, really amazing. But then the rain came in, and we ended up skulking in a pub with chips and cider, returned to the campsite at 8pm and thought it would just be so miserable to have to pack up in the rain the next morning, and we wouldn't really be able to do anything fun because it was forecast to rain all day Mon, so we used a dry window to pack up and drive back to London.
I think the chips and cider probably undid my hard work this week with running, walking and cycling all week, plus sticking to the 1400cals 5 days out of 7 (with Sat and Sun closer to 1700/1800) got undone by the weekend too. So I'm commiserating with your small gain of 0.4lb. I'm also a bit cross with myself because I know I 'relaxed' a lot more this weekend than I have during other trips away/bank hols, because of feeling like I've nearly reached my goal now. I wonder if this feels the same for you - the 'urgency' of being within the 12 weeks has sort of dissipated now. Basically I think I got complacent and took the rain and bank hol as an excuse to stray just a little too far. So this week I will do what I've done before and stick very closely to cals and up my exercise. Good luck for your plan to up exercise too, to preplan more meals and lose 2lb
I am very happy you're tagging onto the Monday weigh-in, because I missed you yesterday, and it's great to hear how you've been getting on. Well done for maintaining your weight this week. Your post illustrates very well how we can work extremely hard during the week, but when the combination of a rainy wet Bank Holiday weekend arrives, it can sometimes attempt to scupper our hard-work - tempting us towards chips and cider, and making us more prone to sit down and wait out the bad weather - but sometimes that's how it is, and it's good to get through it and get back to our normal routine once the Bank Holiday's over. At least you had already done a really long walk around the saltmarshes, so you could enjoy your chips and cider knowing you had put some work in beforehand! I bet they were tasty!
I love the 30 day challenge you mentioned, in your reply to Gracie (further up the thread) - and I am going to give it a go. I'm not going to do 50 squats though, I'll do what you suggested which is to just see how many I can do within the day, and then try to increase them day by day. Maybe I'll get close to 50 by the end of the challenge...!
I agree that it's enjoyable to read everyone's responses within the Monday weigh-in thread, as it is also inspiring to read all the threads on the forum - I often have a read through, and love how everyone works together to help each other succeed with various goals, and shares ideas and information. It's really great!
Collective experience is a strong dynamic, and there is lots of energy and enthusiasm within this forum. I love your energy, which comes across in all your posts - you are inspiring.
I ended up starting my period half way through yesterday, which explains why I felt so tired by the end of the day, and slightly crotchy! (Is that a word?) I hope that didn't come across - but at least that could also explain why I gained some weight, as it would be likely to be hormonal fluid gain - that makes me feel more positive about a hopeful loss on the scales next week.
Like you, I'm hoping for a 2 pound loss next week, so let's both achieve that.
Here's to a great week ahead for everyone in the group, and also anyone out there who is just reading the posts - we can do it!
Wow, so 30 day squat challenge it is, better get started! I'm going to find a way to record it, perhaps a nice colourful planner like Fifi's done for her weightloss. I do understand what you mean by crotchy, even if it isn't really a word! Hope you feel better today. I think things like hormones, water retention (not to mention Prin's suggestion too!), do all contribute to weight fluctuations and can mask an actual loss. So maybe you need to just be patient and last week's hard work will show on the scales next week. I'm disappointed to have let myself down this weekend, but it's good to feel spurred on by it, so I'll focus on that instead. Hope you have a great week and good luck with the squats!
Well done for not going mad over the bank holiday. Only a teensy gain. So small you probably don't even need to count it! I think its good to plan the meals for the week. And managing to do exercise most days is something that still eludes me ha! But well done and keep it up!
Yesterday threw me off as it was a bank holiday I did forget to weigh when I woke up! My partner had to remind me it was weigh day so I hopped on the scales!
I didn't think I did particularly well last week. I tried my best and I did have a bit of a bad day. I ate out twice last week and didn't really hold back on the unhealthy choices. Although i did stick to my calories for the other days.
I also only managed the gym twice so I assumed the worst when I got on the scales.
I was pleased though to find I was down 1lb! Not a huge loss but I wasn't expecting it at all so it feels all the better! so I currently sit at 12st 10lbs
Also 42 weeks to go until my friends wedding (my goal date)
38lbs to lose.
I can do this!
So my goals for this week are to plan my meals again (already done) and to go to the gym 3-4 times if I can manage! Also, most importantly, to stick to my calories!
You are always welcome at the party, no matter how late you get in! Great to see you!
Congratulations to you for losing 1 pound this week, especially great as you weren't expecting it. That's a lovely bonus, and shows that you had been doing well during the week, and you've managed to get through the Bank Holiday well too.
Thanks very much for your encouraging words - I've subsequently started my period, which now makes me think a lot of my lack of losing this week is due to hormonal influences - I really hope to join you in a weight loss next week!
I was feeling a bit crotchety last night due to feeling tired and period pains, so wasn't my best - but I do somewhat better today, so that's good.
I hope you have a really great week, and good luck with your goals for this week.
Hi Lowcal, sorry this is late, I did try to post yesterday but clearly didn't go through.
Your minute gain will soon go Lowcal - just a cup of tea really.
Anyway I had a it of a splurge last week so am lucky in that I remained the same.
So this week I'm going to be more organised on the food planning and I see the goal is to loose 2 lbs 😉. Not sure I can manage the squats with my Rubbish knees but I can do sit ups so I'll go for those every day 😇
Great to see you! Sorry you had difficulties accessing the thread yesterday, and glad you persevered and got here today!
Congratulations to you for maintaining your weight, despite a bit of a splurge last week.
People must set their own personalised weight loss goals week by week, as it's such an individual thing, but I think a few of us have set the same goal of trying to lose 2 pounds this week, so that's why that number has been mentioned in a few people's posts - and the "squat challenge" has been suggested by Ruth, spurred on by Suzybenj's initial suggestion that it's 1st September and therefore we have a 30-day month ahead of us. Myself and Ruth and ?possibly Lucca have expressed an interest in taking on the squat challenge - but we're only doing as many squats as we feel like, and trying to increase the numbers as the month progresses. I haven't even done 1 yet - but hope to do some later! Great that you're fancying doing some sit-ups - that will be great for the core area. Good luck!
Thanks for you kind words about my slight weight gain - it could also represent a cup of tea - that is very true!
Wishing you a really good week ahead. You sound like you've got a good plan in terms of pre-planning your food choices.
Sorry I'm running late as well .. I did manage to weigh-in just didn't get as far as logging in. Pleased to say another 3lbs gone bringing my total to 15lbs .. sounds better when I say over a stone lol. Sticking religiously to what the oncologist advises (extremely low fat) is certainly working at the moment. I'm not able to exercise but ensure I do over a 1000 steps a day .. that may not sound many but it is while sick! And it keeps me focussed.
Well done to everyone else & hope you all have a great week .. I'll be a bit quiet until next week but will see you all then xx
Congratulations on losing 3 pounds this week, bringing your total to 15 pounds - wow, you've lost over a stone, written either way that is a fantastic amount to lose! Really well done!
Glad you're managing to stick to your oncologist's advice regarding extremely low fat, and that it's working well at the moment. Really good.
Achieving over 1,000 steps a day is great too - I agree that it is an achievement with regard to your physical health, and I think you're doing really well.
Hi Lowcal and all. Sorry I'm late - weighed in yesterday morning but we were rushing around getting organised to visit the Royal armouries and as usual couldn't post on my mobile.
I weighed in at 17st 7lbs so 2lbs down from last week. I am doing dry September so really hoping that will help to show a fall on the scales over the next month..
Lowcal I'm sure your small gain is just a sign of a good weekend and will be gone again for the next weigh in
Great to see you! Sounds like you were having a busy time yesterday - hope you enjoyed the visit to the Royal Armouries - sounds exciting!
Congratulations on losing 2 pounds this week, that is fantastic! Good luck with doing 'dry September' - I know Prin is doing that too, and she's trying to convince Suzybenj to commit to it as well - I think Suzybenj is considering a dry week, rather than dry weekends - not sure if she reads these final responses at the end of the thread, but I'm sure both their ears are 'burning' now - anyway, you're in good company for the dry month. I'm not doing that, because I don't really drink that much - usually just a glass or two of red wine, and a couple of glasses of cider on the weekends.
Thanks for your encouragement re: my small gain - I've decided it's related to my period, as I ended up starting that yesterday. So I'm feeling hopeful for a good week ahead, although I admit I've just this minute finished eating a chocolate eclair, and that was definitely not a pre-planned snack - more a result of shopping at the supermarket when I'm feeling hungry!
Yes, here's to a happy healthy week ahead for all of us. Wishing you a great week.
