Help!

Hello people.

I need to start loosing weight before I end up in a box!

I am super unfit and very much overweight with bad eating habits and lifestyle.

I have tried to get on the road to fitness and good healthy living but it never lasts.

I seem to try too hard and overdo things at the start with the inevitable throwing in the towel only weeks later.

I need competition to start and keep me going and I would like to ask if someone could suggest some groups I could maybe join.

I like walking, cycling, mental on photography, and when I can fit into my wetsuit

(No longer) windsurfing, and canoeing.

I get great satisfaction in helping others but now, ironically, I have suddenly come to realise I am the one needing help!

Please help me if you can it would be such a relief.

Thanks for reading this and all the best to you and yours.

  • Fitness and walking, cycling, etc, are great to do for your general physical and mental health and wellbeing.

The main thing to focus on though for your weight loss is what and how much you eat.

You need to change the quality and quantity of your food intake, first and foremost. The good thing is that such changes need not be unpleasant: on the contrary. Think of a juicy red tomato as opposed to a stodgy. beige doughnut ... no comparison in terms of texture, colour and flavour.

The other good thing is that you can 'shrink' your appetite by not caving in to every little hunger pang but by eating at regular times. So, if you had breakfast at 7 am and you have a snack (small and healthy) scheduled for 10 am, then if you think you are 'starving' at 9 am, you will find that you can actually wait until 10 am and after that you can wait until 1 pm for lunch, even if you think you need to eat at 11:30 am. This way you can discipline your stomach, which is a good start,

Good luck and keep writing to us,

  • Thanks so much for the advice.

I tried starting yesterday to change my ways but friends and dinner got in the way.

Weigh in was a HUGE wake up call.

    Starting now.

A bit like starting to climb Everest in sandles with no oxygen!

    Really appreciate your reply.

    All the best.

  • I try to think of it as 'freeing' myself : from all that slavery to certain foods, from always having to please my stomach, from foods that are making my digestive system groan ... And of course ultimately, freedom from all that extra mental and physical weight.

Good luck again for your journey to freedom.

PS My friends often disapprove if I don't want to join in, but I have learned to ignore them. E.g. I turn down desert and they might make some comment, but I am 'deaf'.

  • Thank you for your words of wisdom.

I have been a good boy today with walking and watching what I have been eating.

I am setting up an app called fitness pal and finding some surprises in my diet/exercise routines.

I am drinking more water too.

    Still fancy a cake though.

    Kind regards.

  • HI there.

Hope you are on the mend.

I now realise that I have let myself go over the years and suddenly find myself very overweight but I have made a start and that is the main thing.

There are so many wonderful resources at your finger tips such as you tube and of course this wonderful community.

You are not alone by any means as there are millions out there just the same way!

I find the best way to progress is by getting some music that uplifts your spirit.

Just put on some dance music and dance!

Forget who is watching or listening as they are probably wanting to dance too!

If you are dancing you are having fun and I bet you are not eating?

    Keep up the posts.

We all need companionship for motivation.

    All the best.

Remember EVERYONE is BRILLIANT at something.
