Higher risk at NHS screening test

Last Monday I had my 12 week scan and screening tests done. Measurement at back of babies neck was 1.6mm. Yesterday I received a call to tell me following the blood results my chance of the baby having downs had come back as 1 in a 100 and they needed to see me to discuss options. The options were do nothing, wait for 2 weeks until I could have amniocentesis, have a cvs done (both have a 1% chance of miscarriage) or pay £450 for the harmony test. We decided to pay for the harmony blood test as we went through icsi to conceive we weren't willing to take the chance with the other 2 procedures. Results should be back by Friday or Monday by the latest. I'm a wreck waiting all the anxieties I felt during icsi and the 2ww have returned. Just reaching out to anyone who has been in the same situation who can share their experience xxx

So sorry to hear about your worries, mine was an ICSI baby too but our results came back low so I can’t offer any help there I’m afraid other than sympathise it’s not been easy to get to where you are and having this news must be really hard. I hope the harmony test comes back ok, I would have picked the same option x

Hi my love, harmony will give you reassurance I’m sure. My sister in law was told 1/30 at the NHS screening. Harmony was much more positive though I don’t know the results. Her baby girl was born in October, all fine. I declined the NHS test as decided on the harmony first given her experience. Wishing you the best X

Thank you for replying and for giving me some reassurance I wish we had gone straight for the harmony instead of going through the NHS screening tests and all this stress xx

Hi I too was told my bloods came back at a 1 in 131 chance baby would have downs wasn't given as many options as you either pay the 450 for harmony test terminate or carry on as I was at a much greater risk of mc if I had the amino test done

I'm not really holding much on the results as they are only 75% accurate

Either way we will love our little boy x

UPDATED had our baby boy 4 weeks ago and he's does NOT have Down's syndrome so the NHS screening isn't always as accurate

I went through the same thing, but I think my risk was 1 in 40. I also had the harmony test and the wait was horrendous I just tried yo not think about it at all. Easier said than done I know. Also think about the fact your risk means you have 99% chance of having a healthy baby and only 1% chance of not. My results came back all low risk and that we were having a girl. I am now the proud mum of a 7 month old healthy little girl.
