headache update

Saturday I did some research and believe my severe headaches are occipital neuralgia. I gave in Sunday a went to the ER. I told the Dr my suspicions. He was hesitant at first but my ct scan came out fine.

He hooked me up to an iv cocktail of migraine medicine. Then he did some testing of points on my head. When the same spot kept causing bad pain, he agreed it’s most likely occipital neuralgia. He gave me a shot of something directly into that point on my head. My husband thought it was just a numbing agent.

when I left it felt tremendously better. Lasted all night. I was able to go to my mri this morning and slept right through it, since I could finally relax.

Pain started up again this afternoon but it’s been manageable with a heating pad. I was pretty loopy leaving the ER, so I can’t quite remember what he said to do if the pain comes back. Something to do with steroids.

I have an appointment Friday with my primary doctor. Pray my brain behaves until then. Thanks for your prayers!

First of all , I’m so sorry you’re going through this. That was my mom’s first symptom of MS. So I can empathize with your pain. She was treated with steroids.

Can I ask what form her steroids were in? Oral, IV? I think the Dr mentioned a shot but I was too loopy.

She only had IV medicine @ the time, not the pill form alot of us are used to. Maybe that caused her rapid decline.( of course it is!)

I'm sorry your headache was so bad you had to go to the ER. I hope your doctor can help you feel better. I suggest asking your doctor about occipital nerve blocks if the pain continues. Good luck! ❤️
