Hi, I was just wondering if anyone is taking this medication for trigeminal neuralgia and generalised pain? I am taking 25mg Amitriptyline, 200mg gabapentin and 30mg of Duloxotine. I was reading up on it and I am worried about starting it but just want to know if it has worked for other people and if there were many side effects? The pain is so bad in my face, I have it years on and off and anyone that experiences it knows it is like having 14 toothache on the 1 side of face. I previously had radio frequency ablation and occipital nerve blocks but they don't last long. X

Maceymae I have been on Carbamazepine. It truly did nothing for me. That being said, I have never had face pain. I do take gabapentin 600mg 4X’s a day and diazapam. Those help my muscle spasms but I suffer from very atypical pain in my back between my shoulder blades. For that I’m on 170mg of morphine a day. So I truly hope the carbamazepine helps your pain.

I was originally on 1200mg of gabapentin but cut down because I am like a zombie. I too have pain in my thoracic and neck area. I really don't want to start on the tegretol.

Hi , happy thanks giving, as regards tegretol, I had a severe allergic reaction to it so I don’t have anything good to say about it. As for the trigeminal neuralgia, it is extremely painful. Mine was caused by a broken disc in my neck serrating the nerve so once they took out the disc it calmed down. I tried taking amitriptylin, they put me on it for restless leg but again I was allergic to it. I hope that others respond who can give you more help. Blessings Jimeka 🦋

Happy Thanksgiving. I grind and clench my teeth a lot so that isn't helping. Think a visit back to my pain specialist to get more injections might be what I will do. Horrible pain.

I'm sure others will chime in with their experiences, but you may always enter a topic in the "Search Health Unlocked" at the upper right hand of the page to search for past posts related to any topic.

I hope you get relief soon. I can't imagine that level of pain.

Tegretol or carbamepazine is the only Med that would ease my TN (trigeminal). A few yrs ago I had gamma knife surgery and (knock on wood) I was able to wean off the carcamepazine. Wishing u relief 🌈
