hair shedding/breaking

I know this is an old post but have anyone suffering with this hair shedding/breaking found a remedy? Besides getting off Ocrevus (which I believe is also the cause after going to several doctors to rule anything else out?) My doctor suggested Nutrafol vitamins, has anyone tried them?

Thanks, I was taking Biotin but stopped after I ran out. I’ll pick some up again.

Coconut oil about once a week helps me with hair breakage and static electricity. You need to leave it in for about 30 minutes before washing it out. I'm on tecfidera.

Thank you, I’ll try it!

I take biotin daily. Used to be 10,000 mcg when i took Tecfidera and other dmts. I’m on ocrevus now and take only 5000 mcg. It works great for me.

My wife started losing her hair really bad and we thought it was the Gabapentin she was taking so we weaned her off that and it seems to be slowing down now but hasn't stopped yet - but I read it could take a few months to stop and then start regrowing. I found a LOT people online sharing stories of Gabapentin related hair loss. Not sure if you are on that? You mentioned Ocrevus though, and this is the first I have heard of that as a cause (My wife is on Ocrevus also). Did you find any studies to support that or just deducing? As far as treatments, my wife tried biotin but if triggered migraines. Now she has rogaine but is nervous it may make her shed her remaining hair before new hair grows in so she is testing a few spots first. 😨

I have been using a shampoo brand called Surface Awaken for the past several years and it has really helped with hair growth and maintaining. All of my life I have always had thin hair and now people comment that I have thick hair. I also sometimes use the serum that you apply directly to your scalp. Can't hurt giving it a try. May take several months to see a difference. If you know anyone who is a cosmetologist they could get it for you at the beauty supply store for a lot less money.

My hair dresser is on a mission to try to restore my hair since the doctors haven’t really been helpful. I’ve been using K18, I wonder if it’s similar? K18 I use once a week and notice my hair looks healthier on wash days but not sure if it’s helping or not bc I’m been using it for about a month and a half. Maybe I’ll try the surface awaken instead, thanks!

I haven't heard of K18 before. Sometimes it takes months before you see a difference. Stick with it if you don't see a difference after maybe another three or four months then maybe try the surface shampoo and serum. The surface product stimulates the scalp.

I just started reading some reviews on it and seems promising, I will definitely give it a try if I don’t see any results with k18

I don't know that I would get it from Amazon though because I'm skeptical that they don't water it down or it's not real. Then you wouldn't know if it really works. Id get it from your cosmetologist or from a local beauty supply store or a reputable company.

You are correct about being leary of buying professional hair products from Amazon, Walmart, etc. Most of the time the products have been damaged or are old product that a broker buys & then resells.

I’m glad her shedding is starting to slow, I also heard something similar about the hair regrowth time. I am on Ocrevus and technically they do not list hair loss/excessive shedding/breakage as a side effect but when I called Genentech and reported it as a potential side effect I was told there was a small test group who experienced alopecia like symptoms but since my hair isn’t being lost in patches on my scalp they basically told me it wasn’t from O. I have ruled out other health related things after going to different doctors, which leads me to really believe it’s Ocrevus. I have also spoke to other women on O experiencing the same type of loss. I have always had very thick long hair my entire life but my hair is breaking off very easily especially around the front of my face. Everytime I brush my hair pieces break off. I hope your wife finds that rogaine works for her! Something else you can try for her if she’s nervous is a product line called K18. I’m currently using it, I do notice on wash days my hair looks a lot healthier but it takes months to see actual results. I’ve been using it for about a month and a half but something to try for her maybe.

I am growing lots of new hair since I started (about 10 months ago) drinking collagen peptides by Vital Proteins. I mix the powder with warm water. It tastes better if you let it sit for a bit before drinking. I try to use it once a day, but often it is every other day.
