I had my 5-day steroid treatment about 45 days ago and am experiencing more hair loss than usual. Does anyone else experience the same issue? I doubt it is from my MS but could it have been from the steroid infusion? Does the hair loss stop and grow back?

as each of us react differently to MS we also react differently to steroids, that said I have gone thru several different times of my hair falling out by the hand fulls so far it has always grown back. When I brush my hair it is normal for us to loose 50 + hairs I have heard upward of a hundred or more. I have been taking BIOTIN 10,000 mgs it is good for our hair, our nails & our skins! I will be 70 in 2 1/2 months I'm NOT bald yet still have thick hair it was natural curly when I was real young & has returned to being curly after I wash it & let it dry natural. Mary
Any stress can cause hair loss. I have not had large doses of steroids, but I did lose hair from antiCD20's and I suppose at this point the bald spots are permanent.
RTR1, Sometimes I pull my hair out by the roots when dealing with certain family members. But I've never had it just fall out from steroids are other drugs. But everyone has different responses to Different drugs so don't fret about it just let your neurologists know and request they use them sparingly if it bothers you or you lose a lot of hair. I have only had a 3 day steroid treatment once, no hair loss. I have lost in the past from stress. My dermatologist told me stress is the number one cause. I also shed for a few months, starting about 2 months, after having Covid (both times).
Biotin does seem to help decrease my normal amount of daily shedding. Not sure if it slowed the loss after Covid though, since I still lost quite a bit.
Hmmm, good question, RTR. I don't know. Do you know a good dermatologist you can ask? I agree with kdali. Could be stress? You're under a degree of stress with your new diagnosis (I am guessing). Funny you should post this - I pray as I drive to work, and listed you in my prayer this morning! It's a rural highway with little traffic. Blessings to you!
Steroids can change your body's chemistry temporarily which can make your hair fall out. It's generally not permanant. Stress can also cause your hair to fall out along with several different medications and medical conditions such as high or low Thyroid. I would just keep an eye on it, if it persists after a couple of months then I would talk to your neuro to see if there may be something else causing the problem. Being a hairdresser/instructor for years I have had to deal with clients with this problem including my own for years. I use a high frequency wand on my scalp 3xs a week to help stimulate the hair folicles. If you don't have one you can also use a 5 row brush with stiff bristles starting at the front of your hairline pull the brush backward while rolling the brush from one side to the other.Do this all over the scalp for about 10-15 minutes daily. This will also stimulate the hair folicles while releasing the sebacious oils at the scalp to keep your hair healthy & from drying or getting brittle, especially if you use any chemicles such as hair color, bleach or perms. The brushing will also break away any kind of debri on the scalp which also helps the hair folicle "breathe". I hope you can resolve your hair loss soon!
I use black caster oil and my hair has grown back and 4inches longer 3 months . As I say to get oil out . Conditioner on hair then turn on shower . Oil to oil comes out
