Hi all.. I m 46 years old male, suffering from severe back pain and knee..Sorry for this long story..
These all started on June 2022 and got severe on September 2022..I went to dr and he took an MRI and told me I do have L5-S1 Spondylolisthesis and sciatica issue..I took complete bedrest for 2 months, nov and dec 2022 and my back pain gone away..
I started to do treadmill exercise on January of 2023 and did vigorous treadmill walking for 3 times a day for 20 mins each time.. I am 5 feet and 5 inches tall and was at 92 kg last Sep 2022..so to reduce this weight I did this heavy treadmill.(.Now with the help of intermittent fasting I came down to 83.5 Kgs.)
Then all problem started .. From mid March 2023, my back starts to hurt again and since that time to till date I have been almost bed bound only.. Havy pain in my pelvic bone, femur bone, thighs and knees.. Again I took an MRI last month and same complaint.. Dr says "your issue is not that big and I dont know why you are gettibg this much pain"..
Took all blood test, had low vitamin B12, and my blood counts were lower side of normal..
Please somebody help me to get rid of these joint pains...

While a very severe and longstanding B12 deficiency can mimic MS, I'm not sure why you've posted in a forum for Multiple Sclerosis when your symptoms are not at all likely to be from MS - especially as your doctor has already identified the causes of your symptoms with the MRIs you have had done. Probably the best option for you at this time may be to see a physiotherapist for exercises to help strengthen the muscles around the part/s of your spine which have been identified on the MRIs as being the problem areas.
If your B12 is low then you need to address that issue with appropriate supplements - also look at your diet to see if it is deficient in foods which contain B12 (there tends to be a much higher rate of B12 deficiency in people who adopt vegetarian or vegan diets when they don't know enough about nutrition to ensure that removal of whole food groups from their diet doesn't result in deficiencies). It would be wise to get your folate levels checked as well, but if they are low you must not take folate without addressing the low B 12 at the same time.
I don't have any sage advice that will help with your pain. Because we are not doctors we cannot give you any medical advice. And although many people with MS suffer from different joint pains, your sound somewhat different. Continue with your testing and doctor's advice and see what they can figure out. You might be better served to go to a HealthUnlocked site dealing with pain in joints and back instead of MS. Fancy59.
I appreciate my fellow MS’ers replies BUT now for the bad response you didn’t want to hear…. I was an un diagnosed MS ‘victim’ for two decades. Identical to your brief story. S1 thru L4, light disc degenerate disease (normal aging) with mild lateral stenosis. Orthopedics said not severe enough for the pain so they only recommended NSAIDs. Finally, over time, the MRI image was borderline for steroid injections BUT I had just one unexplained weakness in my right hip flexor. Ortho Doc was concerned and wanted a Neuro opinion before the steroids. First Neuro PA missed it! Unbelievable! Second opinion from general Neuro…. A possible tumor. A brain MRI with contrast and BOOM, one active lesion on brain stem. Closer look, black holes… evidence of past lesions. Now back to MRI of Thoracic Spine… that’s where the lesions were causing the lower back pain! Referred to an MS Specialist Neuro (Dr Craddock…awesome Doc and MS Team!)
Hindsight… 2004 was my first symptoms of MS, missed by Docs. Granted it wasn’t big but alarms should have been sounding during relapses in 2009 and 2018.
So…. It’s your body… it’s YOUR responsibility! I trusted the docs when I shouldn’t have. Shame on me! Don’t be me! Get second opinions and be positive that you are getting appropriate treatment for your malady.
BTW, I had my first S1-L5 steroid injections last June. Awesome! I’m still an active rancher and really hammered my back hard this summer without the pain! Good Luck my friend.
Sorry to hear of your pain. Your weight loss is good. Unfortunately it comes with muscle loss. Exercise isn't your friend, it makes your condition worse. Talk to your Dr. you may need surgery.
I wish I had some advice that would help ... I am having my own battle with the sciatica nerve. Left leg, lower back, hip, ankle & knee. When I take a step I am very careful as I don't know which part is going to up & not work! I wear an elastic knee brace on my knee & use Blue Emu Cream it helps some with my walking. When my back goes off NOTHING! helps. I'll keep you in my prayers Mary
