Hi I am new but in looking at some of the questions I saw one about back pain I have had severe nerve pain in my low back for 8 years now I started taking 600mg of gabapentin then every few months that was not enough now I take for 2 years 3600mg daily, I went to pain management had every shot possible, morphine, oxy moriphine and Fentanyl patch that did nothing I had a pain pump trial at Rush in Chicago woke up during and vividly remember that pain to no avail and they punctured my spinal cord do that pain was like my brain being squeezed so back to have patch I have MS and now a medical marijuana user as it's the only relief I get!

You can get many different forms I had to try a couple before I found one that I didn't get that high but a pep in my day and most importantly pain relief! I never ever thought I would look to marijuana to be my saving grace but I never thought of being diagnosed with MS either!

Welcome! I have back pain but if I do not do any lifting I can get by with Celebrex. Sorry, I know how chronic pain can suck the life out of you.

lucky that you found marijuana helped you, it hurt me so badly that I felt I should call 911, guess I'm not a smoker girl. :(

My girlfriend had a baclofen pump that helped her for years, talk to your doctor, you need some relief. I know this is not permanent by any measure but for the first time in years I had relief through a massage therapist. It didn't last but a few days but I admit that the relief was like a miracle to me.

I'm with you. I've had lower back pain for about 11 years. Dr's thought it was from an accident in 05, diagnosed with degenerative disc disorder in 11, had fusion surgery in 11, to no avail. went to pain management had shots with no relief, on gabapentin because of what the dr said was nerve damage numbness in my left foot, then leg and they increased the medixine. also on ooxycodone, morphine with it. the numbness kept creeping up my left side till I finally went for ms testing and finally found my answers. went to a spine specialist because the back pain is horrible all the time. he told me that my back pain was from my ms, not so much the DDD. the pain medicine helped, but my Dr was worried being on it so long. I went off for a month and he put me on a different dose, and the pain is crazy! he doesn't want to do anything even though I'm in pain for 6 hours. I'm on techimera, but it of course isn't going to stop the symptoms I have already, fatigue , numbness and shaking, pain. we are here for venting and questions!

My husband is about to start the medical marijuana for back pain. Glad to hear it works for you. My ms dr. Said it's not from ms but we are not convinced of that. He is wheelchair bound and all of his plaque is on his spine. Hoping this works

AMWill profile image
AMWill in reply to mcheri

From the beginning of diagnosis my Neurologist said the lesion on my cervical spine would cause me the most problems and he was right some still don't associate pain and MS if so find a new doc!

AMWill welcome to this great place. I'm sorry I don't know anything about your back pain. But did you know its very easy to break from gabapentin terance? It only takes 14 days and then you are back where you were when you started taking it. I started at 300mg, now up to 900mg. That is no where near how much you are taking.

So sorry! Constant pain makes me crabby. I have a medical marijuana card but haven't found reason to smoke it. My back pain is usually caused from a UTI. hope you get relief-sounds like it will change your life!

Of course, I had to chime in on this one. 😁

I'm glad you discovered cannabis works for you. It's quite the superior choice for treating many issues us MS'ers deal with as far as my own experience goes.

When I tried gabapentin years ago I never went past the 1000 mg mark because it made Me too spaced out. Can't imagine what hitting the max daily dose is like!

Keep enjoying those cannabinoids, they work!

Hi. What I am reading is the more you take opioid rhe more you will have more activation of nervous pain, because after some level makes opposite effect, imcrease the pain.

My pain is cause by my very bad cervical spine, terrible shape, but I do not use none of those. I prefer blacofen, diclofenac, indometacin, and neodymium magnetic in my neck, which is the best ro alliviate the pain. It is anti inflamatory local, making some heat and negative ions. I carry with me, the neck wrap all the time. I use once a day and works in few minutes. Other option is ice in your neck with special wrap for at least 15 minutes. It is local efficient treatment without chemicals.

Jesmcd2 profile image
Jesmcd2CommunityAmbassador in reply to Miriade

Miriade what is the neck wrap? And where can l find one?

Miriade profile image
Miriade in reply to Jesmcd2

Hi Jesmcd2, I use from the brand NMT, NeoMedinaTech, Magnetic Therapy. It is a comfortable sport fabric to wrap( I don't know name), with the back with 3 magnets discs which get positioned over spine, and around have tourmaline pad with germanium and bamboo charcoal. neomedinatech.com

Also he sent to download a book to learn about magnets by email.

Jesmcd2 profile image
Jesmcd2CommunityAmbassador in reply to Miriade

Thanks Miriade they look interesting. Which do you have Ando you think they work?

🌠

Miriade profile image
Miriade in reply to Jesmcd2

I have for the neck which always work well and I have also for the back from NMT, better than regular back support. Relieve pain with the magnets and also have support together. I bought books to learn about electricity in the body, even about cell phone danger to the brain, etc.

Jesmcd2 profile image
Jesmcd2CommunityAmbassador in reply to Miriade

I hear alot about the magnets and copper being good for your body. I did think they debunked the cell phone danger though?

I feel much better with the mm going in my body than all the narcotics and decency is not my thing I hate to have to depend on someone or something to help me!

AMWill I'm glad the MM is working for you, I wasn't as fortunate. I have Chronic Back pain, since my low back injury in 2001 that required a fusion but since it was workers compensation it took 18 months. It relieved a lot of pain but when I went off of the narcotics I only lasted a month, the chronic pain was in full gear! The WC insurance sent me to a work hardening program they own, we stay in a motel with Cameras all over it. It made me worse, they kicked me out early but said I could work. I went hot tubbing while there and after 10 minutes I was paralyzed, the guys I was with had to help me out to a chair. It was about 45 degrees out so I cooled fast but needed help back to my room. My legs were still weaker than normal the next day, that was March 2006. With all of the Dr's, therapists and psychologists, the newest therapist suspected suspected something neurological or autoimmune but the Dr's wouldn't hear it! I finally got DX'D in 2012. I take ms continue 30mgx3/day, Gabapentin 7200mg/day, Baclofen 30mg/day, topiromate 225mgx2-3/day, Flomax 10mg, Aleve 440+/day.

Do not get constipated. MS and constipation causes severe back pain that can, yes, last for years if you don't keep your constipation to a nil. Try a laxative. Clean your system out and see if you don't feel better. I'll bet your next paycheck you do.

AMWill Came across your post and being as it has been 2+years, how are you feeling? I had my first back surgery in 1999 for herniated disc, L4-5. Long before MS came to me. I was never out of pain and went to a different ortho doc in 2012. Had my lower back fused and never looked back. Was back onto my bicycle in 3 months(with a brace) then rode 360 miles down the coast of California for a charity bike ride. Sure hope you are doing well.
