Horrible back and hip pain!

I have been in tremendous pain since 11/27. I've been to the family doc twice. I've had injections, lots of meds including muscle relaxers- tramedol- Celebrex, living on a Heating pad. Last night, had an MRI of lumbar spine that showed nothing significant. Could this be a relapse?? Thanks for any assistance! I can't drive or sleep.

I'm also struggling to walk. Neurologist said that I can still get my Tysabri infusion today. Praying that might give me some relief!

Juleigh21 MS is so confusing and frustrating, I'm very sorry for your pain. One possibility is that you are experiencing a relapse. I am suggesting this because I had something similar happening (in my shoulder/rib cage area) and I went through pain injections, MRI, X rays, medications etc and they found nothing. Finally, they did a basic blood and urine workup and found a bladder infection of all things. Apparently, any kind of infection (or stress or even being tired) can trigger a relapse or flare-up of symptoms (I never knew this). Sure enough, as soon as I took the antibiotics and the bladder infection cleared up and the pain subsided. If they haven't done the basic blood and urine work up, I would urge you to consider that, and maybe look at other things that may be a possible cause of a relapse. Sending prayers for you to feel better:)

Juleigh21 , I agree with suzy20 , you could have an infection of some type that could be causing your pain if the MRI didn't showing anything. I would ask your family dr to test your blood/urine to make sure.

Hope you feel better soon,

Jessie

Juleigh21 sorry Juleigh, I don't know anything about relapses but I sure do hope that you get to the bottom of your pain soon. Keep us posted as to how you get on, blessings Jimeka 🌈 🦋 🤗 🍫 🎄

Had Tysabri infusion. Neurologist wanted to see me right afterwards. Ordered urinalysis that was negative. Got blood work done that is being sent to the Mayo Clinic. He wants 2 more MRIs with contrast. Started solumedrol and will do 2 more days. He feels I'm in a relapse. He and his head nurse said I should start with him in the future and not PCP. I'm still surprised this is MS and not a disc issue. Thank you suzy20 bxrmom and jimeka for your advice and support!

Sorry about your pain and so solutions yet,its another pain. I use from Neurologist advice Baclofen for pain and spasms, plus diclofenac- Voltaren oral that works for me very well for spasms. Its has been use also for kidney stone, etc. I dont know if you could try using a little Magnesium local -epson salt and oral Magnesium because release any pain or spasms, even my headaches. The other option I got also from Neurologist is to use Indomethacin for pain

All works for me without taking too much medications that put me down. This is my experience, just for you know there are always options.

Thank you Miriade ! Always happy to hear there are options that won't knock me out. I quit taking the Tizanidine and switched to baclofen b/c I fell asleep ever time I took the Tizanidine. Christmas is right around he corner and I'm a train wreck 😂. House is decorated, most of the presents are bought. I don't who's wrapping all these presents or doing all the grocery shopping and cooking. Doesn't look like it will be me though😕.

I have regular hip and back pain. I sleep every night with a capsaicin patch that I purchase from Walgreens. Most people can't handle these. It's very tingley and just a different sensation that they are not used to. I know the relief these offer me and I literally feel relief when I open the package just knowing what it will be doing for me soon. It's worth a try and it is non narcotic. It helps me so much! It sticks to you like thin duct tape so it doesn't slide all over and lasts for ten hours.

Do you know why you have this pain? Do you put it over your back and hip? Im going to try this! Thanks SometimesCrazy 😊

I think it is a pain for over compensating for my weak side. I always put it on my back at night. Because I do not want to wake up in the morning saying fudge I should have and it's a blanky for me now too. The hip I do about twice a week. I also cut them in half and use them on my trapezoids. DO NOT get your hair caught in the tape. My husband can't handle these and a great male friend was pissed at me for suggesting them. LOL I think all MS sufferers are like steel magnolias. Were a lot tougher than the average person. I really hope this works as well for you. xxoo.

Capsaicin

Chemical compound

Capsaicin is an active component of chili peppers, which are plants belonging to the genus Capsicum. It is an irritant for mammals, including humans, and produces a sensation of burning in any tissue with which it comes into contact.

It will feel like it burns until your nerves get so over stimulated that they just give up and relax.

I'm getting nervous that I gave you something really irritating . My sister just reminded me of her trying them. She, my daughter and friend said no human being should subject themselves to this. Literally fighting fire with fire.

I've been having problems with my hip as well. Was given oral steroids by my GP which made it better (not gone) so I can at least sleep at night. Don't know what it is.

Sorry you are feeling so much pain Juleigh21 ! The only pain I get is neuropathy in my lower legs so I don't have any suggestions. Like some of the others have suggested, it could be a flare up. MS is such a weird disease....

@juleigh21 Neurologist just diagnosed me with bursitis in hip and shoulder and sent me to another pain clinic who diagnosed me with something else and wants to do dry needling shots into my trigger points, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. Lying flat on the floor relieves my pain, but staying in bed keeps from starting the pain! Doing less and less, but still chugging along! Hope you feel better. A combination of essential oils for MS pain is helping more than anything!

@Juleigh21

I just had back and hip pains. While at pt they had me lay on a cold pack for 10 min and the pain was gone. While laying on the pack I could tell my muscles were confused, it was like they didn't know if they were supposed to relax or tense up. By the end of the 10 min I was relaxed

Thanks rjoneslaw ! It can't hurt to try. And so simple if it works.

I have many sizes and styles of ice gel for pain and spasms and also to help to sleep. All of them always works release any pain and also calm down to sleep. Ice is anti inflammation, first option before the heat. I have for my neck, for my top head, my front head, any location of the body including a pillow ice gel. And all kind of wrapping ice gel

Better than getting drugs or reduce the dose of drugs.

I've only been using a heating pad so far. I think it's time for ice! I have several ice gel packs. I just have to locate them since we moved. Thanks Miriade !

Juleigh21 I am checking in to see how your pain is? Have you recovered or is it still bothering you. I ask because I suffer from chronic back pain because of MS. It is awful. For me the only thing that helps is opioids. I apologize that i am coming into this conversation 2 months late. I had taken a mental health break from just about everything, and I am still catching up on what i missed. I pray all is well!

rlh1974 thanks for checking up on me. I did 3 days of solumedrol and it definitely helped some. I went to see an orthopedic who said maybe the pain in my hip is bursitis so I got a shot in my hip. That has also helped some. I took rjoneslaw s advise and every morning while I’m drinking my coffee and checking in on this forum/Facebook, I ice my hip. That helps me so very much! Thank you @rjoneslaw!!!
