Toes, ankle, and knee... oh my! My Dr. is buying a Ferarri!

Okay, it's lower extremities week, so far, I'll have the the hammer toes pinned (insurance approved) in December. The Carbon fiber AFO snapped when I stepped off the edge of a sidewalk, many little pieces of carbon fiber were stuck down into the ankle and lower leg, leg &ankle are patched up, STRONGER AFO ordered. And finally the ol' knee that I had the meniscus tear in 2000 and had half of it removed is driving me a little nuts. Back in 2000 after the surgery, he said I would need a knee replacement in six years. So in 2022, I guess 6 years is over. Just going to the knee doc in an hour to find out what the have to say.

My wife, of course brought in the humor for Halloween, her Idea was that I should stick the small end of my cane in me bottom, then she could stand me out in the front yard as a scarecrow! Isn't it so nice that she is showing consideration and sympathy, and love about the pain! Well, I guess they'll have to do the hemorrhoids after halloween! Happy early Halloween folks!

MsBoo, I go for the humor, the you poor thing I am totally sick of. Trust me, humor saves a lot more lives than belittling hollow sorrow. ps. I get to keep the knee, only advice from doctor is wear knee pads when working in the yard.

Good for the knee.. I'm still in the brace for mine.. and pain, but with the new electric pain getter-ridder.. I am better on that too.. so hopefully no knee replacement here.. I agree the patronizing gets to me too.. But I always have gone for the humor, be it sarcastic or other.. better than "it'll get better if you smile more" crap.. you just sounded so down on your wifes statement..

Kenu, thank you, I appreciate the prayers. It turns out the old knee has a few more decades on it via NSAIDS. There goes the liver!

They offered me a brain transplant, but it was from a high school student... I lived through Highschool once, not again! I'm in a 50/50 race now, MS and aging, they, for all of us, seem to keep us busy!

Holy cow! Sounds like you need new legs! I guess you can only take one thing at a time and get repaired. You have a great sense of humor through it all which is so important. Heal well!

such an empathetic spouse😜. it's nice you got so much longer than 6 years. my dad had knee replacements and they were hard to recover from. i'm hoping since then they've updated their procedures, but either way i'm glad you're getting the care you need.🤗

When my father had his done, afterwards they put him on Oxycodone. He had a bad mental reaction to it and they had to strap him down for 2 days, he was totally incoherent. At least I might not have to deal with it at all!

that sounds horrible! he did what doctors ordered and THAT happened? did he recover from it (not just the knee replacement)?

Since my father had the start of Parkinson's coming on, recovery is a different curve. It took about 4 months until he was fully back mentally speaking. In that time he would pop in and out of a zone where he thought he was doing work, even with his hands moving in the air like he was working. The other zone was my good ol' dad. Parkinson's/sepsis took him from his agony 2 years later.

i'm so sorry. i thought about that after i posted about the long recovery. my dad had parkinson's as well. though he wasn't diagnosed at the time, we all know neurological diseases are often present years before diagnosis. i remember getting frustrated with him when he wouldn't do his exercises. once he got his diagnosis, i wondered if it wasn't laziness, but inability to do the exercises.

My father immediately researched everything possible on MS so he would know what to expect. While he could, he was the one telling us "that is expected" as a new symptom showed up. He started with essential tremor which is tremors when you try to do something, but when it changed to tremors while not moving at all, he knew. He went out Gracefully and at peace with the Lord. His physical symptoms came on fast, and it didn't help that my mother was "over dosing" him to keep him quiet. At that time we did not know she had Alzheimer's, so the whole thing was a bit of a mess. My mother passed peacefully as well.
