Any recommendations for AFO

I have somer serious foot drop and weakness. My physical therapist and spine doctor both recommended an AFO. I do not wear sneakers or boots, but penny loafer style show for everyday wear with socks as my feet cold. I looked on internet, some look intimidating. I'm not buying newe shoes.

Also doing a MRI with spine dr. as there are degenerative issues, I asked him, if MS. lower back or both? Interested in what comes out. also getting yearly MRI for neurologist- so let's see. Kind of came on sudden just intensification of pain already there but cant walk and completely weak..

Any recommendations, hints etc. from those who have been there ,done that for the AFO. Not too expensive either

Thanks

looking forward to my new conversation piece.

Started wearing an AFO over 10 years ago. It definitely helps with foot drop. I wore it in shoes where I could remove the insole to accommodate the footplate.

I've been using a L300 Go by Bioness for the last 10 years. It's a cuff that goes around your leg right below your knee and sends stimulation to the nerves to make your foot lift. They are rather pricey with no insurance coverage. Good luck

Hi, I also wore an ago for years. I found that mine held my ankle still but did nothing to lift my toes. I tripped constantly on my toes until I realized I could hook a small bungee cord from the toe of my shoe to the top of my ago. This gave me the extra toe lift I wasn’t getting from the ago alone. It may look a little goofy but that little bungee cord made all the difference!! I hope this will work with your shoes. Good luck!

I have been using “TurboMedtonics” for the last six years. It fits all kinds of shoes and I actually have four of them now. They are out of Canada and Medicare has covered them 👍🏼

When you go to the orthotics place they will have many to try out. They will assess your needs and make recommendations. I have a walk on flex that fits in my shoe but might not work for loafers. I also have the Xtern that fits on outside of shoe, however, it doesn't lift my foot as well and allows my foot to slap down louder so I don't wear it at work. The Xtern is great for when I am walking on uneven ground as it allows my foot to conform to the ground and give better balance. So, I use it to hike or walk in the yard.
