How long does Solu-Medrol depress the immune system?

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question…? I have been messaging my neuro about so many things lately with my medication change from Tysabri to Ocrevus and 5 days of Solu-Medrol so I thought I’d see if any of you knew.

Thanks!

Jennifer

I can't say for sure, but it's my understanding that short-term use of steroids has no effect on the immune system at all. Solu-Medrol should disappear within a few hours. The Ocrevus, however, will affect you for at least 6 months.

About 6 weeks.

Thank you!! Another question… do you know how much/how significant the depression of the immune system is? I understand that Solu-Medrol decreases inflammation in the brain and body in a big way but am unsure if that correlates to significant depression of the immune system.

I don't, but I don't think it's much and if so, it doesn't last long. In my one experience using solumedrol IV after surgery to postpone Ocrevus (and allow healing) there were no concerns over infections, etc. I hope this helps!

Go Drugs.com for a scientific answer to this question. Also beware of avascular necrosis that is a side effect of high dose steroids that for some stupid reason none of our doctors warn us about. Thats why so many of us have bad teeth and bad knees and hips. But steroids do and will suppress the immune system along with the inflammation
