Coronavirus Preventative Guidelines-revised

Hi Friends-I want to share preventative guidelines of Covid 19 virus from Centers of Disease Control and National MS Society.

I take Tecfidera for MS and this treatment suppresses my immune system and lowers white blood cells, as DMT’s do. I’m considered more at risk of infection than the average person. Today I’m thinking about canceling my weekly counseling appt since there are many people that sit in lobby waiting for their counselor. I don’t want to take the chance of being exposed. As you probably heard, the infection risk applies to any person taking a DMT. CDC and NMSS stated that virus is at a higher risk for people on MS infusions (Tysabri, OcRevus, Lemtrada, etc.).

Here are CDC guidelines to be safe:

Wash your hands” often while out in public or use anti-bacterial hand gels/wipes. When you come home, wash your hands with soap first thing.

The big challenge is our frequent doctor appointments and tests. If you need to go see your doctor and the doctor is not making special accommodations for patients at this time and it’s crowded, avoid entering and cancel appt. If it’s not crowded, avoid sitting close to anyone in lobby and give a 6 foot “social distancing” as stated by CDC between people until virus numbers go down and panic lessens.

At Gas Stations-Bring your own hand towel or dry dish cloth to hold gas pump. Don’t use bare hands to hold pump. Or buy latex gloves or rubber dish gloves, if still available. If gas stations have blue paper towels avail, use one to hold handle. Afterwards, immediately wipe your hands with antibacterial gel or disinfectant wipes. Use what you keep in car or purse/backpack.

* If you can’t find Chlorox wipes at store or online or even a generic brand of “disinfectant” wipes and you still have bleach at home-You can make your own. These guidelines are listed on: CDC.gov website.

Vinegar WILL NOT kill viruses, especially Corona virus, it only kills germs and bacteria.

Bleach kills all viruses and Covid-19.

Disnifectant Batch: Mix 1/2 cup bleach in 1/2 cup water-and dip cleaning rag into it and use on surfaces in home such as; door handles, your cane handle or electric scooter handle, car door handles and car trunk handle, refrigerator, toaster or microwave door, etc. Clean surface often at home that you touch daily after a public outing or if you have kids seeing a friend or a partner that works and they come home and touch same stuff-repeat this! It will be tedious, but it’s safe measures like this that keep us protected.

Small Batch: Mix 4 tsp bleach in 1 Quart of water-follow same cleaning options as above.

Hope this helps and take care everyone!

Virginia is taking this seriously: my dentist has closed his office until further notice, my vet will have people wait in their cars outside to be escorted in; my internist's facility will screen people for temp in a tent outside, all schools statewide are closed for at least two weeks (but my county has a food bus program for students who get two meals a day at school: students can come to the bus every week day to pick up breakfast and lunch) Everyone I know is self isolating (not too hard for most of us) and checking on each other.

Yes, it’s serious and concerning indeed and I’m definitely not undermining it. It’s good your Dentist and Doctor are taking this precautions for patients to be extra careful. Schools here in Arizona where I live have closed too for a few weeks or may be much longer. As CDC states, taking extra precautions especially for people who have a chronic disease such as us or elderly people, this is more important to be careful.

I got a real phone call from my neurologist today and we are going to set up a video somewhat like Skype except it’s medically secured for my next appointment. It was good to talk to him. He’s a little older like us, meeting my husband & myself. He told me to stay in Self quarantine until further notice. I had a hip replacement in February so an addition to MS I am doubly immune deficient. My most recent lab work for my Neuro shows that I am anemic both red and white cells B cells are all low, So I am very grateful for my husband who is doing all of the shopping and actually has given up golf for now so that he does not bring anything home to me. He never fails to amaze me even after 35 years💕
