What are you doing if your kids school is closed because of Coronavirus Situation?

Our governor has closed all schools until April 6. Possibly will close until end of school year. Most colleges are transitioning to online classes. For those of you with kids K-12, what activities are they doing, are they perhaps still studying on their own?

Utah schools are having teachers create assignments digitally. My son is a senior and his school has assigned each student a chrome book. They have been doing this for about four years, so in that respect they were prepared.

I think shop classes are the most difficult. My son has ceramics, welding and woodshop. Tough to do at home. He did pick up his shop project because he’s adding epoxy at this time, which takes a long time to set. So it’s a good project at home.

Awesome that students were assigned chromebooks. Our town has 2 high schools with around 3000 students at each school. I don't know what they are doing. I would imagine classes for seniors are very important! Best to your son!

I’m in Illinois and all the schools are closed as well.

My sister friend who is a principal said the teachers were setting up laptops on Monday for kids to do remote schooling

I’m not in this boat, but I will ask those with bored kids to make pictures for the nursing home residents and mail them. They probably can’t have visitors.

That's a great idea, I'm sure the pictures will be greatly appreciated😊💖

I do understand the problems, but did have to laugh (sadly) when I saw some newscasters talk about feeling panicked because they actually had to interact with, care for, and feed their own children. Oh, my.

that's really sad. My hubby is afraid to maybe touch something and bring virus home to me. It's been hard to find antiseptic wipes to buy. He uses the wipes the stores provide when he goes in and leaves ..

I’ve seen some recipes for homemade sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer. Just make sure that they actually disinfect. One may be able to find the ingredients online if they’re not available locally.

That is so sad. Many of our local newscasters both men and women with children at home because of school, are doing their broadcasts via skype to their stations. Hubby jut came in and told me that many golf courses are closing. Hubbs is 76, so he shouldn't be going out, except to shop. Walmart, safeway and target are setting early morning hours for senior shoppers. A sweet young lady from my church and cycling group has postponed her shower and possibly April 25 wedding.. She told me in confidence that they may have very small (family only) vows this week-end. I will find happiness in that.

I was reading ingredients Of my individually wrapped eyeglass cleaner and they have a lot of alcohol in them. So I asked my husband to take a few of the little packets with him. Then he’d have them to use that he needed them.

Vinegar kills germs we use that

Vinegar only kills some bacteria. You need at least 60% alcohol to disinfect and kill viruses.

Your comment made me do some looking, the information is conflicting. I would use if I had nothing else. Some studies say yes it can kill viruses some studies no. I’m going to keep digging

doi.org/10.1371/journal.pon... vinegar can kill viruses this is a 2010 study by U.K. researchers

Notice it said malt vinegar not regular white distilled vinegar. They are different vinegars made from different things.

Check with the CDC website. I was just reading another post and it said vinegar would not kill the coronavirus. Just trying to be helpful

People on FB are posting about the horrors or “home school day 1” 🙄

Everything is being handed to them too...help, free services, etc.

BLESS THEIR HEARTS 😬

My son attends Atlanta Public School and they had gave out the classroom portal information for classes to be taught at home. I saw a school bus in the neighborhood passing out lunches this morning.

That is very generous on both accounts. I have 3 friends that are teachers, 2 already are online teachers, so they are even a bit more busy. My other friend is on spring break, but will be teaching digitally next week when her classes resume. (She is the only person that has offered to shop or help us) I'm 71, hubbs is 76.

I know I’m replying to my own post, but I’m wondering how many of us have board games, card games & jigsaw 🧩 puzzles hidden away. I know you can download find a word puzzles, various grades study sheets. Hope these help.

Most schools are putting in a plan for distance-learning. I was a New York State curriculum teacher until I had to retire on disability because of the MS. I’m not sure how old your children are but here are some links that might be helpful:

I sent you the link for high school but they have younger grades too

Good luck, stay safe
