Yes, I know that this is obvious and there is absolutely no need for me to say this ,but. We all make mistakes, do things that we know not to do. Case in point, before my Trigeminal Neuralgia surgery I over dosed on pain med 3 or 4 times. I knew not to, it was not on purpose but accidents do happen. Whoever says there is no pain in ms is a fool, and does not know what they are talking about. There is pain in ms, and “YOU” very well may experience it over your years with this condition.

My suggestion is at least two fold. Make a list of your drugs and when “YOU” take them. Very handy for “YOU” and everybody else who has to look at it. It makes it very easy for emergency responders and family to know what “YOU” took, how much and when. Laying on the floor, zoned out is no time to give a list of all your medicines to somebody.

Having somebody who is aware of what “YOU” are taking and when and what extras “YOU” took because of the pain is a great idea. I always yelled out that I was taking more XYZ drug for pain so somebody knew what I was doing. I always tried NOT to take drugs alone. This might be an option “YOU” might like to consider. My first option always was can I calm this without drugs. Will a cool face mask help? I know vaguely where the nerves travel what if I put a bag of frozen corn around my carotid or femoral arteries, Will that cool the blood and calm things a little? Of course “YOU” are looking at your Amazon nerve c harts which are laminated and on your wall, aren’t “YOU”. Carotid is on both sides of the neck and femoral is in your groin.

Know your body, know your illness. There is no reason to be an expert unless “YOU” want to be, but there is every reason to have a good working knowledge of what is going on with your body. We, both “YOU” and I are sick now. Do “YOU” not think it is a very good idea to have a vague idea of what is going on? Do not be overwhelmed by the complexities, be encouraged by the fact that “YOU” learned and forgot something new. Something that I am sure few of us ever thought we would ever need to know. Having this knowledge also will make “YOU” a little less of a victim to unscrupulous charlatans. Always ask where the proof is to any claim by somebody on how to fix “YOU”. “YOU” will fix “YOU”, my ms sibling. Not in a way that “YOU” ever thought. This disease is incurable but it very well may make “YOU” into a much better person than “YOU” ever thought “YOU” could be.

Sounds like fun does it not? What an adventure it will be. The complete remaking of “YOU” and the best part “YOU” are old enough now to decide what bits “YOU” want to make up the new “YOU.

Good Morning, Royce, I do understand what you are saying, and it is very wise advice. However, for those of us who live alone, it won't work. I could write down my normal 3X a day meds, but if I were taking extra meds for severe pain,

I'm not sure I would/could remember to write it down. I do have pain, but I have chosen to use NO narcotics for it....ice, meditation, tough it out. What suggestions do you have for those of us who live alone and don't have anyone to tell? Thanks, Linda

I thought about that aafter I wrote it. I can only think of real determination not to take narcotics, but that ended with me in the emergency room so I am not sure what to do. If you have any ideas please share them

I understand exactly what you’re warning of… I have short term memory loss, so I have accidentally double-dosed several times. Unfortunately I am usually all alone, so shouting out doesn’t do anything except scare my dogs!

On days when my brain is bad, I keep a paper log and write down everything I’ve done. Then before taking meds I check to see if maybe I’ve already taken them! The problem comes when I forget that I’m keeping a log...

I like your suggestion of using ice. It can sound annoying when you’re in deep pain for someone to suggest something so simple. But last night my shoulder was killing me, I was whimpering like a fool. I took 3 different meds, which didn’t help at all. Then I actually tried the old standby, ice. And the pain went away within 10 minutes. Sometimes it’s the simplest, safest remedies that help!

And no need to write it in my medication log. 😉

make the ice a habit, reach for it first, THEN the drugs if no relief
