Hello, my family. I hope everybody is as well as can be expected, is at ease and rested .I have had Relapsing-Remitting ms (RRms) for over twenty years so far. I have made my life quite boring with very few unexpected occurrences. This is what (YOU) as a newbie( Newly diagnosed) person or one getting the handle of it, want to do and have your lifelike.
It will take “YOU” sometime, it took me several years and I had a lot of really good help. If “YOU” do not have good help it may take “YOU” a little longer BUT rest assured if “YOU” calm down relax. “YOU” will get your life in order and start living this illness and not have it live “YOU. Having said that understand that ‘YOU” or I will never totally master this illness. It does things and will continue to do things to hamper us for many years. It is up to “YOU” to accept this and live with it. Adapt your behavior to your weaknesses and make them your strengths.
I went to the grocery store this morning just to buy some milk and cheese. Normally I go up and down every aisle look at things. I have modified my habits to get a cart to lean on, go first to the toilet ( bathroom ) and shop around the edges where the food is. If I am not sure where something is, I ask. Shopping in the morning usually means somebody is there to ask for help. If it is something that I have to look for there is always Amazon. I try not to have to shop every day, I shop the perishable things at the store and the rest online. I know which stores have coffee shops that I can sit down and rest at. I know not to push myself too hard unless that is what I want to do. I do sometimes just because.
I have paid attention to myself. I have learned what I can do and can not do and I live within those boundaries. Of course sometimes I exceed them and suffer the consequences, BUT I am rarely surprised. RRms wants to hurt “YOU” surprise (YOU) give “YOU” reasons to doubt yourself. Be smart do not let it. Take your Disease Modifying Therapy (DMT), they do not stop everything. “YOU” may still get sick, But if “YOU” can get sick a few less times that is a very good thing. I do not remember when I last had an attack. I think it was a few years ago when Trigeminal Neuralgia was misbehaving. I am sure that I have accumulated Central Nervous System (CNS) damage , but nothing that I can not handle. That is the way “YOU” want to be.
Take it slow, learn the illness and what it is doing. Know your disease. Information is power, give yourself GREAT information not she said stuff. “YOU” pay a lot of money for doctors have them educate “YOU”. Make use of them for something more than prescriptions which cost “YOU” but do not always seem to do anything.
Act in your best interest whatever that may be. “YOU” have many years with this illness, why not make them comfortable ones?
Royce (your ms writer)
My aim is always to have a comfortable life, and to live it well.
