Torn Meniscus- what to do?

Recently been diagnosed with a torn meniscus in the knee. Specialist advises no surgery unless it gets worse. He says that the torn meniscus will not heal and I have to live with it. Also says that physiotherapy will not help? I am confused as that is not what I read online. Anyone have a similiar experience? Considering starting exercise programme to strengthen the knee and also maybe getting a NMES unit, anyone else tried this?

My son did this to his right knee playing football 🏈. His doctor gave him some excercises to strengthen the other muscles around his knee and six months later it had healed 👍. He has been ten years now and no problems. I am sure that a PT could help with this 👍. Ken 🐾🐾
