My name is Royce, I have Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis. I have enjoyed this experience for 20 years, and my goal is to provide YOU, the newbie, with the type of help that I wish I had of had back in the day. Understand that I am not a DR a Therapist a writer or any other type of professional, I am just an ms lifer.
All CAPS do not mean I am yelling at YOU, merely that I am trying to make a point, and have not worked out how to tell YOU, that this is important.
I will tell YOU personal things about myself and people I have met in my ms travels, so please do not be shocked this is normally just to make a point, and to let YOU know that I have been where YOU are. Still am in reality, so let's get started.
I really think I was pushed on this one today. I think it is best to say again that I am only an ms lifer. I am not speaking from any professional education, merely from experience. If YOU feel that what I say is rubbish then please ignore me. As with most things mswise there is a little wiggle room, except for Disease Modifying Therapies. From a psych standpoint, there are options. There are all sorts of drugs, there are all sorts of therapies. I would hesitate to jump on a drug immediately as my very first option. I personally might consider other options, perhaps including but not limited to:.
Humour, amusing or funny books, movies to lighten my mood.
Positive affirmations, there really are some strong words out there.
YOU CAN YOU TRY YOU WILL YOU DO
Self-help books of any sort.
Surround yourself with beauty and life. YOU, do not need to watch "Enemy at the gates" on rerun every day. I really like Gattaca, look for it on Netflix. Even the movie Cool Runnings. Positiveness that gives YOU strength. Grow your attitude that says "They could, I CAN TO". Relapsing-Remitting multiple sclerosis is an annoying sneaky gremlin. it should always be your goal to find ways around its machinations. Make yourself strong, challenging at first but YOU have it within YOU. Just take the first step, make your first decision, do something GOOD for YOU. Be strong it is in there just start to let it out, YOU will be amazed.
This diagnosis is not the end of YOU. It will not kill YOU. You do not have to be in a wheelchair or any sort of care facility. It is ONLY relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. You have options, for us today this is a very DOABLE illness, and there is absolutely no reason for YOU not to say " ICAN DO THIS", and mean it.
