Dr visit

We’ll visit with my neuro is done but not much help I guess. I’ve got to have the full trifecta of MRIS. Brain cervical and thoracic with and contrast. Checking for disease progression and if the Plegridy is doing it’s job. Starting deplore for headaches and low dose of Cymbalta to try helping neck and shoulder pain. My Ortho and pain management dr say it’s ms related and neuro says it’s ortho related so I’m stuck in the middle. I don’t care whose job it is but would somebody help me with this pain before I lose my mind. I can put up with balance problems dizziness vertigo headaches fatigue and the list goes on but I’ve got to have some kind of relief for this neck and shoulder. Got to see neuro in a month for mri results then he might recommend epidurals to Ortho. Why next month I don’t know.

So anybody that’s been with me on this site knows I don’t do mris well so I told the nurse they might have to sedate me and she says we always give you a couple of Ativan. So I commenced to tell her that when I was in the hospital it took 3 tries before they took my recommendation to knock me out and the 3rd time they did. Oh we don’t do that. Well you better talk to dr then. Recommended I do all 3 separately. It’s a 2 hour drive each way I’m not doing that 3 Times. So I guess we’ll see what happens with that. But I can’t and won’t try lying in that tube for that long of a time with 2 ativans. That I promise. I told tge dr I just want to feel decent again and he tells me that’s what we’re trying to do. I guess I don’t understand what a relapse is. I’ve been in this backwards spiral for weeks with several new symptoms but no mention of relapse. So I guess I’ll continue to suffer in the meantime.

Well ive vented long enough. Glad I’ve got y’all to cry to.

God bless

Donnie

Doubled51 that is one thing I will never understand and I question. The closer you are to God, the more you suffer. You are in my prayers. Meanwhile, I hope that you can enjoy the Christmas season with your family. Christmas blessings Jimeka 🎅🏻 🦃 🌈 🦋 🤗

jimeka . Thanks and your right about the closer you get to God the more you suffer. The god thing is that this must mean I’m very close to my creator. Lol. Thank you for your prayers and Merry Christmas to you and your family.

God bless

Doubled51 I suggest emailing your Neuro, telling him the exact problems, and the solution for your last MRI. Also get in touch with the place that does them and explain to them. Hopefully, they will work together for you.😊

Jesmcd2 they will have to do something.im not wasting my time or their time without something better. As i said it took the hospital 2 failed attempts and the third was a success so I’ve been there don’t that and I know what works. I won’t settle for failure after a 2 hr drive. And that’s all there is to that part. Haha. I’m not scheduling till I get some answers.

Jesmcd2 To add insult to injury I got a text from my drug store that my prescription was ready. I picked it up thinking it was my cymbalta and depakote. Well I was 1 Ativan. And none of what I expected. This situation gets crazier by the minute. Gonna have a long talk with this office before any MRIS are gonna happen. I’m seriously starting to question the competence level of this drs staff. She even said that I had tge last mri with 2 Ativans and now 3 with 1. It ain’t gonna happen.

Doubled51 I would have popped the ativan and gone to bed!😄😕 My friend, it's ok to figure this out after the new yr!

Make a list of who you need to call and why. And like Kenu says, get your docs in sync. It takes time. Took me a flippen yr an a half to get my Neuro to get it! 😄 But now, I have my own Team😉 as in PCP, head, and Neuro. They ALL know what's going on with me at any given time.😊💕

Patience my friend!💕 ENJOY your Holiday!

Jesmcd2 . I wish I Ativan would have calmed me down I would have done just that but after all the years I spent on Xanax 1 just wasn’t enough. My grandsons tolerance for benzos is still extremely high after 5 years. December 28 will be my 5 years anniversary of graduating from rehab and my last mri 2 Ativans barely got me thru brain and crrvical scan without choking the very nice and swift tech. That’s how I know 1 ain’t gonna do the trick. I talked to the nurse for 10 mins explaining this to her but undoubted she didn’t hear a word. Haha.

But your right about next year. I doubt any possibility of getting on schedule this year if everything had gone right. Which sucks because I’ve met and exceeded all my deductibles and out of pocket for this year. Haha.

But I’ll still try to get them next week just to tell her how smart she is. Haha. Til then I’ll take jimeka advice and eat plenty of chocolate. Haha.

Merry Christmas and God bless.

Jesmcd2 . That would be great cause I’m at the end of my rope. I don’t know which way to turn anymore. All help would be greatly appreciated. By every thing in my relapse tool kit and ive read it several times I’ve been in relapse for several weeks then the pain on top just adds to the list.

Merry Christmas

Doubled51 if you think you are having a relapse then you need to call your Neuro NOW! With Specifics! If he doesn't help you then you go to the ER! And on Tuesday or Wednesday, you call MSAA for a new Neuro!😊

You have the right to be treated with respect Donnie!💕 And it's time to get things going for ya. And I'm good at lists!😄

Just remember they want specifics!😊

Jesmcd2 I carried him a list wed at my visit so he ordered MRI to check for progression of disease and come back for results. Which is fine but what about now? I almost fell in his lap when he wanted to see me walk. I’m surely not a dr but I know new symptoms and worsening symptoms in this old body. I’m just trying to push on thru these holidays. We’ve had more than our share of troubles lately that I won’t take a chance of messing up my grandsons Christmas. It’s a long sad story but he deserves some happy times at all cost.

Thanks J.

Maybe you need to see a pain specialist instead of neuro🤷🏼‍♂️ I have a pain doctor 👨🏼‍⚕️ that takes care of my pain issues for the past ten years. My pain doctor, MS doctor, cancer doctor, and regular doctor are all sent info on what I’m doing and are on the same page. It took some effort to get lined out, but been good for last five years. I think sometimes we blame MS for everything and it can become confusing 🤷🏼‍♂️ Anyway try a pain specialist 👍🙏😉❤️Ken

@kenu. My Ortho is my pain specialist. That’s who is the other half of puzzle. I’ve been with them for 10 years. They started treating me for chronic pain after my neck surgery in 2006.

janetb1968 thanks for the good thoughts.

I was sure having a better year this time last year myself and you’re right thinking about it doesn’t change a thing. Now we live one day at a time and take whatever comes up in stride.

Hope your tomorrow is a better day.

I'm so sorry for you. I don't get it either. I thought it was maybe just me but it doesn't seem like there is any cohesive care for multiple health issues. Health care people don't understand that you are not a yoyo spinning around their office visits !!.

Doubled51 in reply toSometimesCrazy

Thanks SometimesCrazy but I’ve got news for them this time. This is one time that I will control. If I’m gonna suffer anyway they’re not gonna stuff me in a tube for hours. when I can’t stand the pain on the outside I sure can’t in the inside. Before I give in to that to kind of torture I’ll look for another dr. I’m scheduling anything til I talk to dr instead of the nurse. But I’ll cancel the procedure before I crawl inside a machine where I freak out from claustrophobia in a short time plus tge pain of lying there and be told to be still because they can’t take pictures with me moving around. I might regret m decision later but I’ll cancel tge MRI and follow up appt I’d dr has a problem with my decision.

I have to specifically tell my doctor that they need to order my MRI with sedation. I too have a lot of problems with claustrophobia and extreme pain. The first time they toldmeit wasn't neccessary but changed their tune when I told them I would skip it then because it wasn't happening without sedation.

Stand firm and fight for what you need.

Doubled51 profile image
Doubled51 in reply toBygonelines

Bygonelines . That’s exactly where I’m at. No sedation no MRI. If he has a problem it will be time for a new dr I guess. I have to drive 2 hrs each way so I’m not driving that far to waste my time and energy when I know it can’t do it. That would be plain dumb and I’m not dumb. Haha. Much less the copays just to do it again. It ain’t happening. When I was in the hospital they didn’t believe me til the third try but the third time was the charm.

Merry Christmas

Oh, Donnie, don't let them get away with making you do them one at a time. I know how you hate MRIs, but you know how necessary they are! I take 1 4 mg Ativan and it knocks me out. Do you know whether 2 Ativan will knock you out? I have to get the trifecta every time as well, but I know that if I needed it, two Ativan would keep me out for the length of the tests. If you don't think that that will help, definitely ask your doctor to either call the imaging place to see if they offer sedation, or ask him or her to give you something you can take to put you out either when you get there or right before, and have someone take you and bring you home. Doubled51 profile image
Doubled51 in reply toSukie427

Sukie427 . I barely made it thru brain scan with 2 Ativans. I have a very high tolerance. I have my MRIS done a Emory Hospital same place I was at when I was dx so I know they have the records of my last trifecta. All 3 tries. I will def have a driver regardless. Last 3 MRIs we’re done with 2 Ativans and I drove the 80 miles trip home with no effects. But they have been giving me 2 mg Ativan so 2 4 my might do the trick. My wife will be my driver. We’ll see what they have to say this coming week.

Thanks for the encouragement and God bless

Doubled51 Hi Donnie, I spent some time reading all the comments because I don't want to repeat suggestions. I will say that I'm sending good thoughts to you. Like you and many others here, I also have MRI's every 6 months, with & without contrast dye. My suggestion is this, definitely get the 2 Ativan, (my suggestion is to add a 5mg Melatonin available OT) and when in the tube think about your favorite peaceful memories. Me personally, my special place is a beach in Maui, with sea breezes and the smell of salt air! Some of the MRI places are used to patients saying how nervous they are and don't take you seriously, just tell doc and them, "No Ativan, No MRI's!" Make sure you've got a driver waiting with a hot cup of Java! I also have a long drive and always leave home extra early to be ahead of San Francisco bay area traffic.
