Sore Scalp

Hi Friends,

Do any of you have a sore scalp daily or during relapses? I get more soreness and electrical feeling during relapses in certain areas on my head when I touch it. It feels like it’s bruised, but it’s not. I’m curious if any of you have same problem? I’ve wondered if it’s MS inflammation coming from inside brain 🧠, affecting cranial nerves on scalp. I’ll ask my Neuro next week for my appt and also have to get brain and spine C spine MRIs done next week too since I’m recovering from relapse.

I get tingling feeling in my face at times, but comes and goes, not so much just during a relapse. My scalp sometimes feels sore but I always thought it was because my hair is usually in a pony tail, but now not sure it may be something else? I definitely tend to get headaches during relapses, where my whole head hurts, but not sure if you are talking about something different....hope you feel better soon and get rested. Sending 🙏🏻 and thoughts for you.

Hi Lovehope-Thanks for your reply. The sore pain on my head feels different than a migraine or bad headache, but feels similar to when you press on a bruise how it’s tender, hurts and feels sore-that’s how it feels on certain areas of my scalp. When I wash my hair, I feel the soreness especially. Interesting you mentioned about wearing a pony tail. I wear my hair up in a ponytail or bun often, but I never have it tight so don’t think this is cause. But thanks for asking.

I had this problem prior to my diagnosis.

It was not in my head or scalp but down my neck & arm. Out of all the things MS can do, it was the worst by far for me.

I hope you start feeling better soon! we need more photos! :)

Hi Falalalala,

Appreciate the info. I’m familiar with L Hermites and had that sensation down my neck and back at times before, but this soreness feels different than that. As for electrical shocks on my scalp during relapses, that could be L Hermites going backwards maybe. I’ll ask my Neuro next week about it and report back.

Thank you, Nikki

Hi Nicole, funny you mention this! I do get this; my hair grows in a curl texture and I thought it new growth causing the sometimes tenderness sensation. It feels very weird and I do get "brain stabs" when my symptoms are creeping up. My leisions are on my brain and I can suffer from some nasty migraines at timess. Prayers to you and give me an update in refernce to what your Neurologist suggests.

Peace.

It's not a similar problem: its not a sore scalp but a small bit itchy scalp I especially notice at night when I'm getting to sleep.

I have this with every relapse. My scalp on the crown of my head feels like it's bruised. I guess I'm lucky I don't get the electrical zings with it since I always get them elsewhere on my body. Your question actually made me think; I was going to ask my dermatologist what it was but it's never consistent enough. Now I think I'll ask my neurologist. This interesting disease and it symptoms...you never know it they are MS, another problem or aging. Thank you for your post and I hope you feel better. I'd like to see your post if you ever get some answers.

I have that sore feeling sometimes in the same area of my scalp that goes numb or feels like ice. I do not have active inflammation, it’s from brain damage/spinal cord lesion, like with my feel or hands. Those feel sore sometimes too, or can hurt like hell.

GL with your scans!
