Muscle Spasms

Good Morning,

If anyone can help with this problem I have, it would be greatly appreciated.

I take 25 mg of baclofen daily for muscle spasticity at night and a tiny dose of Klonopin during day and night for anxiety and MS muscle spasms; However, last few weeks, I’ve been having daily more intense anxiety that occurs at same time with a burst of severe pain & fatigue late morning that comes and lasts several hours. Don’t know why or maybe it’s just me freaking out that it’s a relapse everyday, because it feels so bad and I’m weak too.

My Neuro knows about this and increased my GABA a week ago to help me get thru this tough period. It seems to be helping a bit with pain. Also, I get shaky hands during this time, which is weird cuz normally I don’t have this. So, I know something “chemically” in my brain 🧠 is off. I’m seeing my Pschye doc this Tues to ask about switching to another anxiety med, but worried I’ll have more spasms again. Ugh....sorry.

Question: Does anyone take another anxiety Med that helped with muscle spasms & anxiety? Just curious who has had similar situation once they went off Klonopin and had more spasms. I’ll always run any suggestion by my Neuro anyway, but curious.

Thanks for your help! Nikki 😊

Isn't MS fun nicoly3467 😒😔 sorry you have to go through all this. Again. Seems when things get right, they go left.🙄

My neuro suggested tegretol if my spasms get worse. I also take Xanax for my anxiety. That helps Alot! Chin up! And let us know!

🤗💕

Not sure I’m of any help, but your post may have helped me! I’ve had increased spasticity lately and now that I think about it, I wonder if it’s because of stopping Klonopin.

I had taken Klonopin (actually, the generic clonazepam) for about ten years for anxiety. It took a long time, over the past two or three years, to wean off. I was determined to stop taking it because I’ve learned that long-term use can affect memory and I don’t need anything else making my memory worse.

So, from 0.75 mg (one and a half 0.5 mg pills) at night, I cut down by a quarter pill at a time and stayed there for a few months. I finally broke free of it about six weeks ago. I have since had to take it occasionally for anxiety but it hadn’t occurred to me that it might be linked to the spasticity. Even when I was taking just 0.125 mg (quarter pill), it didn’t seem to affect my muscles.

Glad my post could be helpful for you! I take same generic Clonazapam-.25 (quarter tablet 1-2 times during day) and .50 mg tablet every night.

I’ve had similar issue before when I reduced it to .50 mg tablet or less for several days-muscle twitches on my (legs, & arms) come back more and I can feel them because they are “annoying” and see them.

Baclofen helps with my spasticity (muscle stiffness) so I don’t walk around like Tin man from Wizard of Oz. It doesn’t seem to help me with my spasms (twitches) though.

I also take baclofen—10 mg, 3 per day but have occasionally taken a fourth recently.

My neuro recently put me on the 10mg every 2 hours because the spam pains I get are horrible. So far it is working for me.

I was recently prescribed 8mg 3 times a day of tizandine. Because of severe spasticity. I am also weaning off of gabapentin because it makes my mind so groggy much more the other meds.I also take baclofen. It seems

To be working.

Happy to hear your new medicine is helping with the spasticity. I haven’t heard of this med so I’ll research it. Do you have any problems with muscle spasms?

Thanks for sharing!

I just learned recently that muscle spasms, spasticity and muscle tone can be one and the same.

That’s interesting, thanks!

But it could just be spasticity and tone. I should have put it in my phone. I can't remember anything!😊

Yes, I got the impression they’re all related, but I agree it’s helpful to distinguish.

Your baclofen dose is pretty low. Maybe your doc will increase it and spread it through the day.

I’m taking 40 mg throughout the day. I’m allowed to self adjust up to 60.

I've tried it all and I've finally found what works for me. Medical CBD/THC oil. If I'm "just" dealing with spasticity CBD oil works. If I'm in pain, CBD with THC oil helps make the pain livable. 4-5 drops under my tongue does the trick. CBD oil also helps with anxiety. The only problem is whether or not you live in a state that it is legal.

I use canabanoid oil to alleviate muscle spasms. You mix it with a little coconut oil and massage it into troublesome areas ending with the hands. It's alleviated both my pain and the spasms. I have COPD and asthma x

Baclofen at night (50mgs) and CBD (non THC) during the day.
