Hi, new here. Have had OCD almost all my life. Since retirement seems to have intensified and I think it's making my accompanying depression worse. Take effexor but it doesn't do that much. Considering therapy.

My ocd
Hi. I also take effexor, which by itself does nothing much for me, but when I take it at the same time I take luvox, I feel better. I take them both at night though, so they're worn off by the morning and then I feel bad again. Luvox has worked well for many people, even when taken on its own. But therapy is also an excellent way to help OCD, with or without meds. Finding a therapist who specializes in OCD is the best way to start getting better. They will give you the tools to help you cope with it in a healthy way. You have come to the right place on this forum! Welcome!
I take 150 mg Effexor and 10mg of antipsychotic drug and it makes all the difference in the world for me. But I feel like I need therapy to get rid of the little intrusive thoughts I have left
150 mg of effexor too. I think I need therapy as well.
by itself Effexor doesn't work as it should but in combo with an antipsychotic drug it does wonders. I've read this combo is a new method in treating OCD. I'm thinking of trying NOCD website. You might want to look into it. Also I get worse if I am not busy so this might be one reason you are feeling worse after retirement
You may need a change of meds or an addition to the Effexor. After retirement it is important to still have a routine. I find exercise does help. Therapy can also be helpful. Most of all keep moving forward and pushing through . Hang in there 😀
Thank you. My complex has a pool and I find swimming helps. In the fall I ll start walking. I'm going to check with my doctor about the med and referrals to therapists.
