I am an autistic person with hypothyroidism who has recently been suffering from GAD/OCD like symptoms. I have anxiety around pretty much everything, and recently been suffering from compulsions to move my head and also looking out of hte corner of my eyes. Don't know if anyone has suffered similar compulsions and has any ideas about how best to manage these, since it is getting debilitating (and furtherworsening already severe health anxiety).
Thanks.

Hi! I do the same thing. Just want to share my experience with this so you know you're not alone in it.
Sometimes it feels like I have to stretch my neck, too, but the eye and head movements I can really relate to. I hadn't realized it was a compulsive behavior, but since you mentioned it as an OCD symptom, I'm thinking it probably is. I do it from anxiety, too. I do a lot of behaviors having to do with my body because of anxiety, for example, tensing the muscles in my legs. I do that often but don't realize it for awhile. I also have GAD. Stretching my neck is done for the same reason. I'm always fidgeting, never calm.
I don't know how to lessen it, though. I don't know what would have to change (mentally ?) for that to happen. I don't know what to do about GAD, how you treat it.
Thank you for your post because it shed some light as to why I do those things, not only from anxiety, but possibly OCD as well.
Hello, I sometimes have hyper-awareness OCD about swallowing or blinking. I'm not sure if that's what you're getting at though? It's just the awareness of my eyes and/or mouth and I feel a compulsion to swallow. I find it more annoying than anything these days as I've learned to trust my body and understand that it "knows" more than I do. Have you tried talking to a doctor or a therapist about what you're going through? I know for me things started to change when I was just honest with my doctor. It was difficult, but with a combination of therapy and medicine I'm in a lot better place than I was before.
