OCD taking a bit of a toll

I’ve had OCD as far as I can remember. I still remember my compulsions and the hiding from family and friends. I’m just venting here a bit before I go to bed, and thinking about needing to cut down on my coffee consumption. The coffee I consume in a day is definitely increasing the anxiety and making the OCD worse. SAMSON

I wonder if starting by reducing around 1 ounce/ cup of coffee you drink will be a achievable starting point.

This can slowly reduce ounces going in and then focus on reducing number of cups after fees weeks of this approach.

This helped me in eliminating sugar from my coffee/ tea.

In spirit of transparency I am on this forum to learn about OCD as I support a spouse with this situation.

Coffee does cause anxiety and anxiety raises your ocd. I used to have a substance abuse problem with all sorts of drugs and alcohol to calm my demons, which makes you feel worse next day. I've got alot better. Booze it the worst, it really effects you central nervous system

Yes alcohol the worst drug of them all,it killed my sons mother,at the age of just 29 she was beautiful, that poison took over her until her organs failed.

Yes alcohol is very addicting and does take a toll on your body. Lots of people use it to medicate themselves, so to speak. But it does not help in the long run. It’s a temporary relief for the real cause of the problems And the long term consequences are dangerous

My personal solution, which I've practised for many years, is to limit myself to two cups of coffee a day, usually in the morning. And then to allow myself unlimited tea, but generally not just before bed. There's something about tea - it isn't called 'the cup that cheers' for nothing. It's a real pick-me-up.

Tea does contain caffeine, but the body absorbs less of it from tea than from coffee. It's a healthy drink - to get the benefits, make it with water than is boiling-bubbling and let it mash for at least three minutes or more before putting in milk. And best to have it without sugar.

This is all very well if you like tea, but if you don't it's still worth restricting your coffee intake. It's good for getting you up in the morning.

Hello Strongest123,

I was wondering why the last 3 days my OCD spiked. It must be because of drinking alot more coffee. Starbucks coffee is pretty strong too. I was just thinking I need to reduce my coffee intake and then I saw your post here. Thanks for sharing.

Alcohol and ocd is not a good mix. It’s taken me many many years to realise this to my own detriment.
