Please tips to effectively stop ruminating for good.

Hi Dear community, I have the habit of ruminating my problems all day long and that's ruining my life. I couldn't find a practical way to break this habit which, btw, I think it's deeply set in my brain structure. I've been like that since I can remember and it's usually triggered by stress and periods of inactivity and uncertainty. This only helps to feed my suffering further and excerbate my depressive/anxious symptoms.

I wondered if you know any science proven techniques to stop thinking in circles over and over: or even a book, etc that could help me to start breaking this harmful habit.

Any help will be appreciated 🙏☀️

Check out Dr. Michael Greenberg's Rumination-focused ERP information on his website.

Agree re my Charlie Greenberg. Ruminations are mental compulsions and respond to ERP

For me it is sitting with the discomfort. Knowing that there is no urgency or that the urgency we feel is anxiety. It doesn’t always work but I know that’s one way. I also know putting it off and distracting yourself. And noticing when you are ruminating. It is usually the same thought loop over and over and it accomplishes nothing. It’s related to perfectionism and worrying you didn’t get it “right”. But maybe there is not right to get to, and it just serves as self torture. I believe this OCD feeds into and off of dissociation as well and can be related to trauma.
