How to stop reassurance seeking.

Do any of you get urges to tell people especially close family members your utter most private situations that should only be your business and only your business. How do you stop reassurance seeking,I've been through this before and asking one thing didn't help I would think of another worry and get reassurance for it. I would think past things and and feel so guilty I would even create worries in my head. The things I'm worried about is my business and its definitely not something you tell your mother.

Ok I'm going to bed now, happy new year. Ile try that tomorrow. I been doing certain compulsions now since I was 14 ruminating all sorts of compulsions it would be wie4d without them but my life would be so much easier. I have massive headaches repeating myself in My head

Please see a primary care Dr before you try this. It may not work the same for everyone and it could be dangerous.

I've spoke to mental health team,it's just that long wait now.

Dear Dempsey, What helps me is delaying the asking for reassurance. Tell yourself you'll ask for reassurance in 10 minutes, then try another 10 minutes. Find a way to distract yourself for that time--book, video, play with pet, go for a walk. You'll build up your "muscles" by delaying seeking reassurance and the frantic feeling will start to abate. You've got this!

RN here. Glad it's working for you. Your adrenal glands are ennervated by your autonomic nervous system, so I don't think you can literally squeeze them by thinking about it, but I know we can consciously lower our heart rate by relaxing. I think this is probably harmless but won't work for all of us. However, again, glad it's working for you!

I did drink to much over Christmas and new year and it gives me much more anxiety and anxiety makes my ocd worse. I know it makes it worse,I got to look after myself more. I been meditating alot today to lower heart rate and calm me down. I use alcohol to self medicate I know it's wrong for ocd . I got to stop it.

Yes alcohol is not good for ocd. It’s taken me a long time to realise this.
