Help please! Ruminating thoughts

I suffered a trauma 2 years ago. This resulted in severe OCD. I cannot stop thinking about the event and obsessing about all that happened. I do not sleep well and have at times had to resort to taking klonopin to help relax and sleep. I need a more consistent medication to calm the racing thoughts. Any suggestions? Dr suggested Luvox. Though I am petrified to take anything, I know that something has to be done as I at times feel suicidal. Thanks

Hello there,

You can find a list of medications which have been proven to reduce symptoms on the IOCDF website here: iocdf.org/about-ocd/ocd-tre...

Luvox is indeed a medication which is considered helpful in reducing OCD symptoms.

It may also be helpful to start Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy as this is the most effective form of therapy for treating OCD symptoms. You can search for both therapists who can offer ERP or psychiatrists who can prescribe the medications listed above by using the IOCDF Resource Directory: iocdf.org/ocd-finding-help/...

I've written this to a few people on this site, it's helped me maybe it will help you. As you probably already know, OCD is caused by a lack of serotonin in the brain. I looked up dietary ways of increasing that in my body so I wouldn't have to fight it off so hard. Pharmaceuticals are nice when they work but why make them do all the heavy lifting. I'm also a heart attack patient should I just rely on pills or should I make a change in diet and exercise as well? Same may hold true with OCD. I started eating more walnuts and bananas as well as chicken or turkey in combination with whole wheat or oats as this mixed with the tryptophan seems to produce serotonin as well and I also googled some Vitamin supplements that I can take that help in this regard. With those, I will suggest you talk to your pharmacist as some of the suggested supplements can have adverse effects. like SAM E (Although I never felt any) It has not been 100% for me but I would put it at nearly 90%.(results may vary)For all I know it's also effective because I'm doing something different to fight back. While you wait to see what the Doctor recommends upping your walnut and banana and walking should not have a negative effect unless there is some rare malody I haven't heard of and this might help take the edge off for you. Good luck to you my fellow OCD sufferer.

Yes I took Prozac for a while and it worked great but then a paperwork mix up between 2 medical service providers happened and I was stuck with no meds for my heart problems and my OCD I took St. Johns wart for years and it was Ok but my body eventually developed a immunity to it's effect and I had a very stressfull reentry into the wonderful world of OCD that's when I started to look into the dietary solution but I plan on seeing my doctor soon about it but they were right to prioritize taking care of my heart condition first I was a walking time bomb. they put 2 stents in my heart a little over 2 weeks ago. I also plan on looking into CBT.

I can’t help with the medication but I can promise you that obsessing thoughts so subside more if you get good at meditating! It’s so hard at first but the Pacifica app is so good!
