Any of you practice radical exceptance, it's basically another form of cbt and maybe you can practice a little erp. It's on YouTube in cartoon form but It teaches you when you get a bad episode of obsession and get the urge to do compulsions, instead of giving in this is just symptoms of my ocd and try to stop obsessions and stop doing the compulsions for as long as you can. Step back, say I'm aware this is my ocd but practice doing it for as long as you can every time you try. Its not easy, but it's practice, practice with holding compulsions for as long as you can ,it's very unpleasant but with a bit of luck it will weaken urges.
Question: Any of you practice radical... - My OCD Community
Question
I have tried practicing radical acceptance in relation to my depression with not much luck. I’m very resistant to the idea.
Yeh I had this condition for so long I keep on forgetting to remind myself this is ocd , it's all ocd
OCD makes my efforts to combat depression less effective and vice versa. My negative thoughts are practically obsessive if not rumination being a compulsion, but when it comes to trying to treat my OCD with ERP or other intensive therapies, my depression has me believing that there’s no way I could ever succeed with that, or that it just isn’t worth the effort. I’m sooo stuck lol. I know I’m not the only one either but a lot of OCD therapies don’t really take into account co-morbid mental illnesses.
Thanks for writing this about radical acceptance. It's helped me alot, as it's something I know and then inevitably forget to apply. You posted right as I'm grappling with a new compulsion, and I'm trying to acknowledge it but not give in to it. It's difficult, and sometimes feels ridiculous that I am spending so much time in my mind on this subject. I did pretty well tonight--only gave in a very little for a very short time. Baby steps.
