Hello yes u can start by taking a day off & resting the entire day call your doctor maybe start treatment
There isn't any one trick I use, and I still fail. But I think it depends on the compulsion.
For driving obsessions, I play a script but also try not to dwell on the thoughts. The mental compulsions are the hardest because they happen automatically. I need practice to just let them be there without engaging or replaying memories.
I've also used the delay technique where I don't do a compulsion for a specific period of time, maybe an hour or something. There was one time I was driving home and got worried I hit someone in an intersection near my house. I wanted to walk back to check, but I kept delaying it until I didn't feel a need to check. But then the mental compulsions were still really hard.
