Hi, I have an 18 year old who has been suffering for some years. I heard a great programme on Radio 4 the other day, an interview with the writer of Pure. This is a link to the Action Line links that the BBC put up: bbc.co.uk/programmes/articl...

On one of the websites I found out a bit more about CBT and how it is the most useful form of therapy for sufferers and there was a link to an organisation that licenses therapists. I found a name on there for someone local (who had already been recommended to me by someone, but whom my then 14/15 year old wouldn't see). She has now had 2 30-40 minute sessions and I have already seen a change.

I know that with this condition we are all in it for the long-haul, probably life, but managing mechanisms and coping strategies are helping via CBT (and minor aversion therapy).

Good luck!

Hello friend, I am sorry for your son's suffering. I can understand the emotional pain that you must be going through as a parent. Please don't worry. OCD is a condition that can be controlled with life style changes, support from family and friends and medication. There's a youtube channel called International OCD Foundation where you can watch talks by mental health experts as well as OCD sufferers. Please be patient with your son. Also please be kind to yourself as you take this journey in recovery together. He will get better. As someone with OCD and being on medication, I have some personal experience in this matter. And finally please don't forget to enjoy life. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
