Hi everyoneI've just read Foostra's post about travelling while on Rux, and I have a related question re travel insurance. I have Myelofibrosis (on Rux) and standard questions here in the UK to get a quote for travel insurance are a) Do you have cancer? And b) Do you have a terminal illness? I really don't know how to answer these questions and my consultant doesn't know either. Does anyone have any experience of this, and how did you deal with it? It's worrying me that I might be denied travel insurance. Thank you for any advice.

hi Sivasi, when dealing with insurance companies you need to tell them that you have a blood cancer, which is a myeloproliferative neoplasm called Myelofibrosis. It is a chronic condition.
best wishes, Maz
Hi, yes it is type of blood cancer. I highly doubt it will be denied but they will charge extra premium. All the best.

Hello Sivasi - I have Staysure Annual Travel Insurance. I declared Essential Thrombocythaemia during the online application process and the only resulting question was whether I had ever suffered from a blood clot. Luckily I was able to answer no to this. I think if I had suffered previously from a blood clot there may have been more questions. My impression is that the premium for me and my healthy husband is about double what it might have been without the ET, but still under £400 per year (we are 66, him, and 64, me). The insurance is issued with the ET noted as an accepted medical condition. I hope this helps.
Thank you to all who replied. I had no trouble insuring myself when I had ET, but now that it has progressed to Myelofibrosis it seems more uncertain. Anyway, I will follow up on your suggestions. Finģers crossed.
I have had a policy with Staysure for several years. Had to phone them today with a query and the subject of Hydroxycarbamide came up. I have just had to cancel my policy as it is a chemotherapy treatment so they said they won’t cover me for ANY pre-existing conditions as well as the ET as they consider chemo to be high risk. Lucky I discovered this before travelling again, or else I would have been uninsured in case of a claim.
Be very careful everyone with travel insurance declarations out there!
hello I've just renewed my travel insurance with Avanti. I stated I have ET and like the other person said they only ask if I've had a blood clot which I haven't. I get the Cruise and land travel for a year allowing travel to anywhere in Europe and it came in under 300 for the two of us.
just keep them updated of any changes you might have going forward. I find Avanti the best for this.
I’m with All Clear -£109 for the year (Europe) I have ET ( Jak2) no blood clots - up to 45 day trips included
I have just tried to get an online quote from All Clear but it’s not recognising Essential Thrombocythemia in their list of conditions…did you have to phone?
Hi there, I’m in the UK and have insurance via staysure, I am categorised as blood cancer as Myelofibrosis whilst an MPN is still categorised as blood cancer, if a transplant is an option for you it’s not terminal that’s how I was asked to log it, it’s quite expensive and you need to buy either EU travel or worldwide if you plan to travel outside of EU 👍🏻 PS I take Ruxolitinib also 👍🏻
hi, I’ve recently dealt with travel insurance so thought I might be able to help. I went on the Mpn voice info sheet and tried a few online with no luck! I rang up All Clear (link below) and they were great on the phone! Got my husband who has advanced PV early MF (on interferon and soon Rux) annual cover for Europe. He’s only 40 so don’t know if this made a difference as to why they would insure him… I put not terminal as he can still be cured via SCT and yes to do you have cancer. I found them very helpful on the phone and reasonably priced: allcleartravel.co.uk
