Travel insurance: I have ET JAK2 and want to get... - MPN Voice
Travel insurance
Hi Tilly_Rose.
I am based in Ireland and I use Multitrip year-round, premium worldwide plan, with no issues, for the past 5 years. I do it online and, on every renewal, I have to call to an e-doc and they ask if there was any past clot issues. Then, I pay around 30 euro extra/on the top of the insurance original cost and I add the reference number to the policy. Multitrip is probably available in the UK.
Through the search tool, you will find some other topics discussing travel insurance.
I’ve used Staysure for many years and ET is included in their online list of conditions
hi , I used cedar tree as going away this year , they asked if I had any issues with blot clots , which I haven’t and I got a cheap rate for 8 days
Hello, we use All Clear and they have MPN on their list. But you can phone them as well to clarify. Good luck
Never had any issue’s getting travel insurance, as above the online question have you had any clotting, which I haven’t and away we go. Good luck and have a great holiday
hi Tilly_Rose we have a list of companies in our guide to travel and travel insurance that you can try, and it is worth noting that some insurance companies might list MPNs under the category of 'blood cancer', or as MPNs, rather than listing them individually. Best wishes, Maz
HiI've insured for years with Saga but you have to be over 60, I think. Never any problem. The only question they ask, related to ET, is have I had any blood clots.
Best of luck.
Hi. Saga is for over 50s not over 60s. So anyone 50+ should be okay.
try Staysure or saga as they have worked for me, I do annual policy
It's a bit of a minefield! And it's expensive. I started with the MPN Voice list of suggestions and tried online. I kept hitting dead ends. I had to telephone companies. A couple of companies refused to quote, but I found AllClear very patient and helpful. They understood 'blood cancer' and 'MPN'. For me an annual policy was cheaper than the quote for my single trip. Complicating factors they take into account are: age; other health conditions; destination; length of stay. We're all different, even those of us with ET Jak2.
Good luck. And I hope you enjoy your holiday when you travel.
I use Insurancewith. I have prostate cancer and ET and they offer a good level of cover at a reasonable price compared to many of the others mentioned above.
Staysure is online & has a part on it for ET . But my own bank travel worldwide insurance covers it too . Try those . Julia UK . 👌
Hi Tilly_Rose. I'm in Quebec (Canada) and here, MPNs are fully covered by Blue Cross travel insurance which I use every time.
Their coverage changes if one answers yes to one of the following questions:
- "Do you suffer from a terminal illness?"
- "In the past 5 years, have you been diagnosed with or treated for metastatic cancer?'
- "In the past 12 months, have you been prescribed or have you used oxygen at home?"
I called Blue Cross and they told me that ET is usually considered as a chronic illness by travel insurance companies.
Have a great trip 😊
I have p.v and always doing insurance by phone. It cost more due to my diagnosis but it worth it in case of…
Hi Tilly, along with PV I have heart problems. I've found Staysure was best for insurance cover. Worth shopping around though
Blood Cancer UK, have update their info leaflets and they've included travel insurance companies. Not sure if your in the UK but if you are, the leaflets can be viewed or downloaded.
