Hi there.
If you read the patient information literature you’ll see that PML is listed as a very rare risk of complication along with various other things like TB.
If you read the patient information literature about any drug - including the things we routinely pop into our mouth like paracetamol and ibuprofen - you’ll find listed a host of fairly scary but very rare potential complications.
Very rare complications means less than 1 in 10 000 people are affected. So of 10 000 people taking Jakafi, 9,999 - and possibly all 10 000, will not get PML.
Any drug or medical intervention is about benefits vs risks. In terms of the benefits of taking Jakafi vs the risk of PML it’s a sure fire bet the Jakafi would win. HTH.
My Medicine Traitant always tells me not to read all the papers in Med boxes or I would never even take a baby aspirin!!! Merry Christmas 🎄
it has happened but is very very rare
